Title: Missing dogs
Post by: tyrone girl on November 14, 2010, 02:07:13 PM
Anyone know do wardens pick up dogs about the place if they think they have no home or what? Would they just take a dog if they saw it along the road? And if a dog was knocked down who would lift the body? Would the council do this or would they know if dogs been knocked down?
Our dogs gone since tuesday. Devastated

If a dog is wandering along the road the council dog warden will lift it and it will end up at the council pound. Depending on the council area the dog will be kept for a period of time, this varies between 2 and 7 days before being pts if it is unclaimed. You need to ring the council dog warden straight away. Are you Dungannon or Armagh council area?

yeah they'll lift dogs wandering about, we'd one go missing one time and she was found in the dog shelter - give them a ring.

http://www.dungannon.gov.uk/index.cfm/area/page/pagekey/554 (http://www.dungannon.gov.uk/index.cfm/area/page/pagekey/554)

I'd start there.

Do you know where the local shelter is - I've a feeling the RSPCA and not the council runs ours so maybe try with them as well.

Ta very much Pints much appreciated. We didnt ring anyone cos he went off for couple days before a few years back and he came back so we were convinced he would come back this time. Our ones have driven the roads looking him this past couple of days, just fear hes been taken or killed. Have him a long time.

Some cruel c***ts about. Some hewer killed, skinned, and hung a dog from a street light just outside Reno at a high school football ground last week - just in time for parents turning up the following morning with their kids to a soccer game. Sick fucks.

Thanks - im devastated. Loved that dog like he was one of the family. We think hes been stolen also, well we can only presume. Either stolen or knocked down, theres nowhere else he could be. What breed was hers that was stolen? This was full bred labrador.

Im trying to hold out the hope that maybe someone has taken him in and feeding him and whatever and thats why he hasnt left and that he will come home again. Think the chances of that are minute but im crying like a bloody baby all weekend so its only thing takes me round , the hope that he will come back  :(

The dog was locked into a neighbours shed by mistake for over a week until the farmer came back to open it. The other dog was a 5 month old puppy and came back in 5 days. They have no idea where the puppy was for that time.

Is he an "entire" dog? If he is, the likelihood is 90% that he's preoccupied with some bitch somewhere within a five mile radius and he'll be home in his own good time. Either way, a small ad in the local paper and on the local radio is your best way to go. Our lad went missing one time (from a boarding kennel!). It took us two weeks of searching, notices in shops, etc. to think of putting an ad in the paper. Got a call within a few hours of the paper coming out and got him back.

Yep hes an entire dog alright! Hope thats the case that hes preoccupied with a bitch somewhere. If that was the case though how long would they usually stay away. Dunno where else we could search at all. Phoned the pound and wardens and no sign of him.
Gonna put an ad in courier and democrat and observor this week and hope that someone has seen him. I feel absolutely ridiuclous but can hardly eat or anything with worry over him.  :(

Send the gerry anderson show an email TG. I've heard him call out requests like this before with a fair bit of success. Just mention the area your in and when it went missing etc. They'll put anyone in touch who has any info so you'd prob be best to leave a contact number with them as well. Hope it turns up!

Delighted for you Tyrone Girl. Make sure you get a tag with your email and phone number and leave it on the dog all the time, by the way, a lot of dogs are stolen for breeding purposes, so watch out for the dog and keep her like you would a child.

Getting a chip put in the neck is a mighty job so even if he was stolen and ever ended up at a VET's office or the pound for that matter, they would contact you imediately through a national database.
It's not expensive either!

He always roamed about the garden and dont want to have to keep him locked up constantly it seems unfair. My dad has locked him up now and says hes gona have to stay locked up cos he wont stop going off. Can you not get one of those electric perimeter things that gives him a small shock if he tries to go out past it? Put it around your garden and he shouldn't go past it after a while? Either that or tell the other people who's house it keeps going to to give it a good beating next time it lands, should sort it out!

If a dog continously runs away from home then its obvious it has a discipline problem.  Not really the dogs fault but more so the owners of said dog.  If the dog had been trained correctly when growing up and discipline enstowed from an early age, there would not be an issue and the dog would stay put.  The inept ability of the owner, in this case Tyrone Girl, to look after and raise a well mannered dog has resulted in nothing but a mut of an animal that is more hassel than its worth.  Im sure TG and her family are sick to the teeth of having to go and find the mut and take him from other people's houses, never mind the embaressment of contyinuly having to do it.  Im sure the other famly who's house the dog runs to must be wondering to themselves what kind of dogs owner TG is.  There is nothing more to gain from this dog, either sell the dog, send it to a pund or keep it tied up, harsh i know but its not the dogs fault, TG has clearly done a poor job bringing the animal up.

We had thought about one of them invisable fence things - think thats what they are known as that give them the shock. But people have told us that when the dog figures out to take the shock and they can get to other side then isnt any good. Daddy has told the people at the house to chase him every time he lands but isnt doing any good. He may have to be put on a long chain or something if he doesnt stop it. Harsh but sure what else can we do.

Can you not get one of those electric perimeter things that gives him a small shock if he tries to go out past it? Put it around your garden and he shouldn't go past it after a while? Either that or tell the other people who's house it keeps going to to give it a good beating next time it lands, should sort it out!

those electrical fences work for a wee while but eventually they get used to the shocks and say fcuk this i'm away and make a run for freedom

Harsh enough but at least you haven't barbecued him like stan wright the leinster rugby played did to his own dog.

Too cold for that. Maybe in summer we might
