"The conveyor belt has slowed down. We just haven't been finding the players. "

There was no cat on the higher education rising stars (Fitzgibbon all stars)

4 Clare, 3 x Galway, Tipping, Limerick and 2 Déise.

Kilkenny are cat.

I would agree with you yet St Kieran's have been in the last 10 All Ireland school A finals, winning 6/7 of them

Quote from: barnish oggie on March 22, 2024, 12:59:17 PMA substantial boost to the senior panel going by that press release.

That's almost a full 15 returning to the squad either returning from their travels or injury so Gleeson should be happy, but it may be unfair on those lads who's soldiered through the NHL to let them go!

Especially with a warm weather training camp in Portugal soon 🤔

Quote from: gallsman on March 21, 2024, 05:13:33 PMEven getting signed for training camp would be huge. Make it as far as a practice squad during the regular season and you're already talking 6 figure salaries.

Talk that Zammit has 900k offers on the table for practice squads.  I think I read 250k is the minimum.

Not sure that's right, practice squad salary is usually a weekly rate $15-20k a week I think, and no guarantees you will be on it all season, players usually aren't that's why I assume it's a weekly rate. Teams will add and drop players from them as needed.

I also think it's capped so not sure Zammit can negotiate that high, could be wrong.

Quote from: gallsman on March 21, 2024, 11:47:45 AMHis age is no concern for a kicker. They routinely play into their 40s.

He's not guaranteed a contract at all. It is extremely competitive and while 10 from 10 sounds (and is indeed) impressive, there'll be umpteen other college kickers who can and will have done the same. Kickers in the NFL would be expected to hit 95% odd of any kicks from less than 50 yards to avoid being cut.

Another matter is that not all teams are looking for a kicker. He may well get himself a contract, even for training camp, but he's not going to dislodge Justin Tucker ffs.

Yep have seen plenty of Instagram and the like videos of wannabe kickers nailing kicks from 70yds etc but it's not in the real world & not the conditions you would be expected to kick in the NFL. Ball snapped, timing your steps & another team trying to block it etc

Saying that would love to see him getting a crack at it but it's an unforgiving place the NFL, especially for kickers. They get cut left right and centre, miss a couple of extra points in a game on a Sunday and you are out of a job on Monday.

Be interesting to see how long this lasts as his conviction was raised before & the mods went into full shutdown mode.

Complaining about besmirching his reputation, even though he was convicted and it was all in the public domain

I think he's poor but as we all know Júrgen doesn't do bad transfers!

Don't rate him at all & he was woeful when he came on against United

Quote from: Armagh18 on March 15, 2024, 09:32:32 AMCould stormont not pass a lawing limiting premiums or would that need to be London? It is properly scandalous. Reducing car insurance and having roads fit for purpose are 2 issues that would please a lot of people if they were sorted

Pretty sure all these Insurance companies end up back with about 4/5 multi national huge companies.
I would doubt even London would have the clout to do anything about it, even if the will was there to do something, which there isn't.

There was an article a few weeks ago that the FCA were to meet with the Treasury to see if anything could be done

Quote from: imtommygunn on March 15, 2024, 10:41:17 AMOur u20s have not been performing at A level in their previous age groups so I think it's a bit silly to not enter into the B or C competition.

We have been in tier 2 in Leinster in previous years in U-20, Meath, Westmeath, Laois, Carlow etc. That would be our level (and we never won it to progress to Tier 1, from memory anyway)

The B competition is a different ballgame, it would be 40 point victories I'm guessing

Quote from: NorthAntrim on March 12, 2024, 03:16:57 PMI thought the u20s had a serious looking panel with plenty of firepower up top. Couldnt make the game but a forward line with joe mclaughlin, aodhan mcgarry, niall mcgarrell and cormac mckeown should be a serious outfit

Seniors are where probably expected with the few opting out, retirements etc

U20s would be more of a concern for sure.

I'd done a couple of trial games leading up to the start of the championship and its not for the lack of effort put in from what I could see, probably just beaten by the better team on the day?

Yeah as far as I am aware the preparations were good, which to me makes it even more worrying that we aren't beating Derry (No disrespect intended)

Is that the campaign over or do they still get into Leinster for the AI?

Derry are now in the Leinster B championship, Antrim could well be in an AI "B" competition or even lower down, my contact hasn't got back to me yet.

They aren't in any of them, they have decided not to enter and their season is over

Well then there would need to be a few more questions asked now if that is the case.

Would there have been anything to gain plying in an All Ireland B against the likes of Roscommon, Donegal etc ? Management nor players wanted to take part.

They have been training since November, some of them involved with CPC & GT in the Mageean & the GT players still on the go until this weekend. They have probably had enough

I don't think that there would be anything to be gained from this either.

My point was that questions would need to be asked with the level of preparation into this group that we are out at this point.
