Quote from: Armagh18 on January 17, 2025, 11:21:38 PMFair play to Kielty. Jarlath looks the fool now getting involved in the incident with no conviction and letting it slide with the boy who was convicted, 0 consistency.

He made the distinction between a player and a coach. You might not agree with him but there is a distinction.

Armagh have difficult away games in Salthill, Tralee and Ballybofey. But they have 4 games at home and can get enough points to avoid relegation in a well attended Athletic Grounds.

Quote from: marty34 on January 16, 2025, 09:40:16 AMIf going from north to a southern university, orfeom the south to UU, what is story regarding grants and fees etc.?

Is it more expensive just to stay in own 'area'?

I'm pretty sure since Brexit it's more expensive to go from the north to the south. I remember hearing that 3rd level fees for students from the north were going to rise in the 26 after Brexit similar to the way the UK were out of Eurasmus due to Brexit.
I remember seeing some figure on the number going south to study at 3rd level a few years back and it was an absolutely tiny number. Presume it's the same going the other way. I would have say it's likely to be far cheaper to stay in one's own area.

I think that you have not been paying attention, so have failed to the entry exam. The fees in the 26 counties are €2000, but many people are put off by the cost of accommodation. However, many in the 6 counties only look at Dublin and not at courses in Limerick or Waterford etc where rents are less or going on the bus to Letterkenny or Dundalk.

There are three criteria for qualification.
All must be met in full prior to commencing a degree programme.

A. Students must belong to one or more of the categories below:-

are EU, EEA, UK nationals or nationals of the Swiss Confederation
have been naturalised as an EU, EEA, UK national or a national of the Swiss Confederation during the course of their course (and meet the residency criterion)

It's the Late Late Show GAA Special on Friday night with All-Ireland-winning captains, GAA President Jarlath Burns, Evanne Ní Chuilinn, Pat Spillane, and The 2 Johnnies among Patrick Kielty's guests.

Counting down to throw-in, the Late Late said: "All-Ireland-winning captains Aidan Forker (Armagh), Tony Kelly (Clare), Niamh Carmody (Kerry), and Molly Lynch (Cork) will be looking back on last summer in Croke Park, chatting about the season that was, their All-Ireland glory, and looking forward to 2025.

Quote from: Armagh18 on January 15, 2025, 04:52:34 PMHow close are the league finals to championship this year?

Div 1 league final on March 30th and Championship starts the following weekend April 5th,6th

Donegal v Derry play that weekend as does Mayo v Sligo and Galway have to fly out to New York.

Once things get up and running you'll hear of plenty in the media saying Donegal,Derry,Galway,Mayo won't want to reach the final.  Ridiculous that at least a two week gap isn't in place between the championship and league finals but it appears to be HQ way showing no respect to the provincial councils.
None of them are going to care too much about getting to a league final then, especially given how the league finalists went the last couple of years come summer tine
Armagh did alright

That was a Div 2 final, being in that is a positive.
If you are a contender for Sam then winning Div 2 should not be gruelling, you should be able to rotate players and that kind of thing. But you still win and have forward momentum.

Quote from: Dreadnought on January 15, 2025, 08:18:46 PMI think Monaghan are very short odds. I think they'll find this year very tough

The location of games can affect your chances. Monaghan would likely beat Cork at home, but if playing them by the Lee then it would a harder assignment,

Quote from: Hereiam on January 15, 2025, 09:35:22 AMI see its changed now, you can select adult & juvenile seat in the section at the corner of the Cusack/canal end but not in the Hogan.
Anyone explain the reason why they do this.

For a while it's been that way, adults only in the Hogan, adults / juvenile tickets in the other 2 seated areas.. No idea why, as there wouldn't be anything health & safety wise between the various sections.

On a big day with a largely full house some of this may appropriate, but not on less crowded days. Some of these things are directed at someone's convenience and it is not that of the person buying the ticket.

Would love the government here to introduce a  proper penalty tax to stop non residents or pension funds from buying all the properties in the south .

I'm not sure that there is a huge problem with non residents buying property. Pension funds will buy the property and rent it out long term, which is needed also. Pension funds are much more likely to have long term perspective than other investors who are looking for short term gain.

Could you explain to me exactly how pension funds buying up large swathes of property to rent out at extortionate rates (often to the same people who could afford to buy the property outright if only they didn't have to continually fork out for said extortionate rent) is **NEEDED**

Away and give yer head a wobble

A lot of people want to rent, and someone has to rent to them. It is rents that are excessive, buying a house was never easy. A pension fund running a large building and renting it on a long term basis has a role to play in the property market. Those who are buying up housing estates are usually a bit different.

Gregory is a career politician ie he'll play to his electorate, but, and I'm no fan of the man, he's helped out many of themums over the years. He's also, or was the chairman of a local soccer team who've had plenty of GAA men playing for them, and I'm sure it erks him, one of his wains is married to a taig 😬

Comment elsewhere suggested that he has adopted this hardline political persona which plays well to the troglodyte DUP electorate, but that personally he wouldn't necessarily be like that.
