Typical Utd. Will more than likely come out like men possessed against the gunners at the weekend.

Maybe that's the problem, squad too big with loads of talent means they don't stick to a system or settled 11. Probably need a manager who's a c**t.Quote from: Look-Up! on May 02, 2024, 09:42:31 AMWhat's people's take on Chelsea and Pochettino? Gets a very easy ride from the press compared to Utd, although if they win tonight they'll only be 3 points behind them.
With that squad though, surely they should be contenders. If they have everyone fit next year, a good manager should be at least competing for CL, and if City regress, a title. If they can't, you'd imagine huge financial implications are coming down the line.
If Abrahamovich was still there would be well gone. All the money wasted spent lack a decent no 9 and goalie. Conor Gallagher as captain shows lack of leaders in the group too.
Quote from: An Watcher on April 29, 2024, 07:08:03 AMDoes anyone else feel the PL has petered out a bit before it's even over? Maybe it's just me and my view of modern football but it's dullI think it has lacked a proper title race last couple of years since Liverpool regressed a little bit, but apart from that it's the same as it every was. Just no one able to keep with City when teams come off the bridle.
Quote from: Captain Obvious on April 27, 2024, 03:06:15 PMI already stated I'd prefer to see Arsenal pip them to the title to keep things fresh. Have never said you can win the PL without money, just that their success doesn't put my knickers in a twist. If anything I've found their emergence a breath of fresh air up to this.Quote from: Look-Up! on April 27, 2024, 01:55:53 PMQuote from: jcpen on April 27, 2024, 01:31:12 PMHaven't forgot, just couldn't care less. City are entitled to appeal and if they get away scot-free all's fair in love and war. Football is incredibly corrupt, always was so I'll take my moral cues from elsewhere, certainly not from a football governing body.Quote from: Look-Up! on April 27, 2024, 09:31:12 AMYou forgot they've done all this by breaking financial rules and have 115 charges against them.. but yeah fair play to them.Quote from: imtommygunn on April 27, 2024, 08:23:21 AMDare I say it but it's a bit like Dublin. Financial advantage, an obviously brilliant manager and a well run setup in terms of actually using money well as opposed to just throwing money needlessly at stuff.Maybe not as big an outlier as the Dubs as I think there's plenty financial clout and resources in other clubs in the PL to match City. There's a reason Leister were 5000/1 to win the PL, it's essentially a closed shop to only the few unless an unusual set of stars align.
Money on its own won't buy you success. It's definitely a big help mind you.
Problem with City is that their recent history meant they were unfashionable and easy to label "new money trash". It's pure snobbery and I like how much their success winds people up. Sure it's starting to become a bit boring and it would be nice to see someone like Arsenal pip them this year b ut fair play to them and their manager for what they've achieved. They'll come back into the pack soon enough when he leaves. They haven't racked up a billion in debt, don't owe hundreds of millions in unpaid transfer fees to other clubs and are investing in the local community. If some sugar daddy is willing to waste his own money doing that, so what.
PL was quite happy to follow the money and sell out, same as the big clubs in PL. Very happy to get in bed with the devil and devalue their history, FA Cup cough cough, but start crying not fair when they get blind sided by a minnow who wooed big money and then manage that money a hell of a lot better than they ever could.
But there's no point getting too worked up about it either way. I follow football for what happens on the field, not off it, and appreciate City for what they've done. A truly class team.
A Manchester City supporter and if so when did you start following them, before or after the sugar daddy selected them?
What happens off the field is what makes any team successful on it. Manchester City without striking it rich would probably be a club struggling to retain Premier League status than winning league titles.

Quote from: gawa316 on April 27, 2024, 12:12:06 AMIt's a combo of the best manager about, financial clout, and recruitment...city haven't skipped a beat after replacing legends like Kompany, Fernandinho, Silva, Aguero, etcYaya a legend too. Greatest thing about Pep is his ability to handle egos. No one is bigger than the club, doesn't matter who you are or what you've done. If you get notions you either fall quickly back in line or get the boot. But still he keeps the persona of someone approachable, reasonable and forgiving. Brilliant manager.
Quote from: johnnycool on April 25, 2024, 12:04:41 PMGreat shout on Toney. I don't think you can blame assists because an assist is only an assist if the chance is converted. Creating chances is not a problem for Liverpool.Quote from: Look-Up! on April 25, 2024, 11:42:27 AMVVD plays in a vital position. Still has plenty to give and a natural leader. I think it would be too risky to get rid, unless his heart not in it and he wants away himself. Earns 150k less than Salah, who I think is a big problem going forward not only because of his poor form, but he's putting massive upward pressure on future wage negotiations, be that existing contract renewals or new signings.
Bank the Saudi cash for Salah and go for Ivan Toney, seriously rate that lad, he'll get 20 plus a year on a good team.
Salah is bang out of form, there's no doubting that, but Liverpools main assists used to come from wide, TTA and Robertson, TAA injured quite a lot this year and so has Robertson, who's been below par as well.
Carragher has given up on Nunez, seems to think he'll not get any better than what he is now and although his rates of scoring from really good chances is poor, surely that's something that still can be worked on, no?
Gakpo looked a bit better the last few games, probably missed last night, but not complaining..
