Quote from: Capt Pat on August 04, 2024, 08:18:25 PMWhat has happened to the Kenyans in the 1500m? They are being dominated by white runners. Something stinks.

1500 was always competitive across all countries

Only 7 African winners the rest European and American

African countries had taken over though at one stage. Now it seeems to have gone the other way. I was told by tv pundits and journalists etc that this was because African runners like the Kenyans were superior at these events. I find it strange the way things have turned out.

I think marathon is where it's at these days for the Kenyans. A win in a major marathon and they are out of poverty for good.

Quote from: gallsman on August 04, 2024, 07:32:35 PMMens 100m might see all 8 run under 10 seconds which I think would be a first. 3 or 4 of them could win it.
Great call
Hospitals are not equipped to treat stupid

Not sure why they have. But primarily it was mainly Europeans at that distance, anything over that yes, the Kenya's and others dominate those titles
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

There were 12 sub 10s in the semis

Pretty sure there had never been a final where everyone ran under 10, regardless of semifinal performance.

Seville came last running 9.91 having given up.

Fair play to Lyles. Walked the walk having looked a touch off it in both the first round and the semi. Thought the winning time would be faster though.

In the 100m final, did the first two not finish on the same time - 9.79 I think?

Yeah. Fives thousandths of a second between them.

Watched a wee bit of the boxing earlier and it was a French guy and a Dominican Republic guy. The French guy could barely hit the other fella and still won :(  You would have to feel sorry for those people but definitely looked a poor decision to me..

Boxing, at this level, is a joke.

As it appears amateur boxing won't be at the LA Olympics and with the ongoing sagas around corruption and poor officiating there isn't much to attract someone to it apart from a pathway to professional.

It has been an important source of Irish medals though, it not being there does not suit us.

Sooner is out of the Olympics the better... too corrupt and Ireland on the receiving end of much of that.
You could feel the fear of the RTE commentators last nite almost expecting Kellie Harrington to be robbed.

Terrific run from Adeleke. Verrrry comfortable. A medal is a huge ask but stress definitely a live possibility.
