Quote from: ardtole on August 19, 2024, 05:22:46 PMHow the hell can goal nets be offensive. Considering some towns and villages throughout the north are plastered in red, white and blue and very little said about it.

If a Soccer or Rugby pitch had a Union Jack on it's nets (in Ireland) would it bother you? You'd look with distain? I would!

To be honest, I wouldn't give a damn!  If you want to be offended, you'll be offended, personally, I'd laugh at it and move on.

I don't know. It's wouldn't say to me - Bring your kids to this club. Flags as much as we love them can hold so much back.

Ah the old Green, White and Gold. The Irish mans way of really denying the true background of our Flag!  :(

Eh?

Well it's orange not gold. Orange for a reason.

There's a few other local clubs have their nets in the club colours so it's not like St Paul's decided out of the blue to try and make some statement.

Is this a serious debate?  My club has "inoffensive " colours . We drove several miles to purchase coloured nets because they look far more professional , and in keeping with the positive PR imagery of visible club colours wherever possible . We will not be going back to white nets and neither have any other clubs I know. They look good , and are nothing to do with politics . St Paul's is a stunning ground and coloured nets are in keeping with their impressive club imagery . The ridiculous suggestion that St Paul's purchased coloured nets for political provocation  in the middle of technaven estate in Lurgan , doesn't warrant any further discussion.

The club colours aren't green white and orange? They're

And their town neighbours Clanns have blue and white as seen on tg4 yesterday I'm nearly sure

Spot on. One of the best surfaces in the country as well- and the nets look the part too.

Quote from: balladmaker on August 19, 2024, 04:43:27 PMI always remember Doug Beattie's performance on the Nolan show when the St. Paul's GAA club in Lurgan had the audacity to install goal netting in their club colours i.e. green, white and gold (just like Offaly) ... Doug cited it as sectarian and provocative ... a leopard doesn't change its spots, bigotry was never far from the service with Mr. Beattie.

To be fair

How many clubs put the Club colours on their nets?

How many clubs have the tri-colour as their colours?

It is pugnacity, but you can understand how they would see this as provocative action.

He jumped the gun on thy one and made an assumption. He'd have been well
advised to actually check why those nets up

I wouldn't class it as the middle of an estate. One of the nets is right beside a road which is very close to Mourneview.

And while they're at it, how about this?

The amount of ironies in that one beats the band.
Stitt sends a facebook post calling Loyalists to rise up and defeat the spread of evil Islam. Meanwhile he got his own shining white chompers done in Turkey, a muslim country. Old Whiskey Nose then comes to give Turkey Teeth a character reference. And to cap it all off, his solicitor John Larkin who Bryson, Allister and unionists have been using to get rid of EU law in North is claiming UK law should not apply to Turkey teeth because he was out sunning himself for six weeks in Spain when he sent the facebook post.
They are some shower.

And I see the Orange Order upset because a Council (Ards and whatever?) wouldn't let them have an "Orange victims day" in a Council Park.
