While Ireland might be losing some potential Olympians to the GAA, that's nothing compared to what the USA loses to its indigenous sports, especially American Football.
The strongest, fastest most athletic athletes in high school try out for the school's football team. Those that fail to make it then try out for the track team.

It would be unreal.

Like the USA at basketball, Ireland would start as strong favourites.  ;D

Handball is our best hope of a sport being added that Ireland could dominate in.
Baseball/softball, squash, lacrosse, cricket and flag football are being added for 2028.
Handball is surely as big a sport worldwide as lacrosse and flag football are.

A thing that really is a big problem is countries spending Billions on venues to host events such as World Cups and Olympics. And the Venues go to rack and ruin once the Event is over.

That's a thing of the past, no new venues in Paris or L.A. - no country is going to fall into the trap which is now so well documented just to host it.

West Ham using the stadium for London 2012..

I'd say you'd have to have a plan now for these places after they are used

Greece has a hard 20 years. London did a better job.

But the failed NFL players end up going into other sports. Plus Americas population is absolutely massive! They can afford to lose a few!

Rounders?

The major baseball nations (E.g. Puerto Rico, Mexico, USA, Dominican Rep, Japan, Canada, Cuba) would trash us at rounders/softball unless we converted some hurlers.

We should be good at showjumping, but had a flop this year.

With the amount of taxpayer money that gets pumped into equestrian activities, you have to question the value for money. I read somewhere recently that Ireland's two-legged athletes get a fraction of what horses and greyhounds get.

But GB never sent a soccer team

Does anybody care about Olympic soccer? The World Cup is where it's at in that sport.

GB aren't allowed to enter a team in soccer unless they are the host nation. Only way to qualify for the olympics is through the u21 tournaments and since they don't compete as a union in it they don't get to qualify even though England probably would qualify every tournament

Alas. A great loss to the diving connoisseurs.
