How do you qualify to get into this competition? Can any club enter? Who is in it this year?

On what basis has Pat Spillane to be making up catagories for awards? He was a good player on a very good team who pissed through All-Irelands when the rest of the counties were slugging pints and eating frys as pre match routines. That rag Sunday world have given the p***k a platform which has just fuelled his ego. The saddest part was when RTE allowed him present the Sunday Game. We was bloody awful.. a giant leprachaun on speed.
At least Paul Galvin likes him, hmmm wonder why.

Enjoyed the St.Pauls features. Very well done. Laughed at the umpire falling! 

I picked up the Sunday World in Fermanagh today but returned home to Sligo to notice that the story didnt make the same headline in the southern edition. Obviously the 'occupied 6' version is of an even lower quality. Although both rags feature that bollix Spillane.
This really is a nothing story by a sensationalist rag who thrive on this BS. So what if some little toe rag got a clipping, they then decide to make a case of it 32 years later?? Unreal!

Thanks lads. I don't know much but  I'm pretty sure I don't have arthritus. Just two persistant injuries that I can't get rid of.

Anyone provide advice on niggling injuries that have lingered for a few years now?

Whilst running on the road by calf/achilles stiffens followed by pain. If I keep running it worsens. It seems to be around the area where my achilles meets bottom of my calf. I have had it for a few years now, have gone to physio who gave me insoles and I got new runners. All provided short term relief but I'm now back to square one.

My other injury seems to be tendonitus where my bicep meets my forearm. Feel it when I do bicep exercises, which I havent done in a year now, but if I try it I still feel it.

Any advice welcome!

When he then gets unwanted attention from people on the Sunday Game who simply point out what he has done (yet again) he plays the victim. He wants his cake and eats it!

I personally believe that there is loads of room for flamboyant characters in our games but not those who have low discipline levels and expect us to ignore these and concentrate only on his latest pair of shiny shoes!

Having got involved in all of the pr waffle lately it isnt going to be any easier for Galvin in 2011. Clearly all of the recent pr stuff is geared towards a new media career.

Did you actually watch the documentary? He stated a few times how stupid he was for doing that. He then shunned any media requests for a response. How on earth is that huffing and puffing?

Yes I did watch it. Did you? Clearly the subtle inconsistancies were lost on you.
Yes he did say he was stupid but also he moaned about the Sunday Game analysing the incident. He indirectly took a swipe at Anthony Tohill (who spoke at length about the incident) by saying the Spillane and O'Rourke were the only ones worth listening to on the programme... but of course he didnt even watch it as he was far too cool for that and was watching MTV at the time. Just one of the many contradictory b-Sh*t statements he came out with on the show.

it is the irishmans fear of wearing anything the rest of the herd would not wear or looking different. Not a fan of galvin but he is right not to be too bothered about what the rednecks in kerry or elsewhere think.And if cork had one or two like him they would not be runners up so often.

His wearing of different clothes has never been an issue and as he said himself he has never got any stick about it.
My problem with him is that he states that he gets OTT attention from the media based on his antics on the pitch. He blames everyone except himself and when he does look at himself he does so reluctantly.
He cost Kerry an All-Ireland last year. If I was a Kerry man I'd be more annoyed with that than his latest centre fold.

Bought Dara O'Sheas book this morning in Sligo. Looking forward to it, will give you all a review. Also heard this morning that Martin McHugh is in the middle of writing a book. It surprised me to be honest considering the man has done nothing on the pitch since 1992 and as a manager of Cavan in 1996 or something? That's 14 years as a pundit and writing in tabloids. Can't see it being a great book TBH. He should put his money where his mouth is and manage his own county. Then he could have material for a book.

Yes it was! Yes it was the existing major venue however when funding became available major debate ensued as to how best it could be spent. Clones was selected and status quo maintained. The debate at the time was that Casement was a better long term option to develop and the only reason Clones was in the mix was because it was the existing provincial ground, not because it was the best choice! Tax was also a consideration at the time.
There was a serious lack of forsight at that time in my opinion and Clones was developed over other grounds based on very small minded rationale.

@ Laoisgaa: So what was the criteria for selection? Based on the players selected I would assume that their county profile would have aided their selection? The fact is that none of us know what criteria was used... so you and Tommy Joe can complain and I believe you have a case but perhaps the selection committee had a "profile" agenda to adhere to?

Nobody said that Clones wasnt the Ulster final venue previous to the redevelopment! My point is that it was selcted for substantial upgrade as Ulsters premier ground, which imo was totally wrong. As for it being upgraded the same as every other county, absolute nonsense!!! Clones was hand picked as a provincial ground and received funding to reflect this. County grounds are developed by the counties with support funding with much less development than Clones received. For me, Clones is the best ground in Ulster by far. It's the town and the infrastructure around it that lets it down. It should never have been selected for upgrade over Casement or Omagh.

Ah there's a reason why I got comment from Tommy Joe on the nominations. I wasn't happy with them either myself to be honest and I knew he wouldn't be. It's not the point that there's only a few UUJ players - the point is more that for these type of selections you'd expect more of a recent vintage to be nominated. Just two players from the last ten years or so - it doesn't make sense.

Yes Laoisgaa I see where you are coming from however they clearly went for people who were successful in Sigerson and also backed it up with a solid county career. The recent lads are still getting there in that respect.
Some of the best players I ever played with were at Sigerson level, but they didnt make it at county level for one reason or another. Many opt for professional careers etc.

Have you been in Thurles? I have. Big wide main street with cafes, bars and restaurants. Not a big town but works well for big match day. Nothing like Clones.
ps: Thurles is where the GAA was founded... so no matter what the town it should have a stadium. Clones never should have developed a stadium. I understand the 1980's midset of supporting deprived border areas and not having to pay match tax to Maggie Thatcher at the time but it was a very poor location choice.

I didnt realise I would have to explain what the 1980's had to do with Clones... and you a Monaghan man Maguire!
The decision to re-develop Clones was taken in the 1980's.. at a time when the border areas were economically deprived. I'm not saying much has changed in that resepct but Clones was a poor choice even back then. Casement was always a better long term option.
