We all know Liverpool supporters like yourself are blinded by the reality of any situation. What I can tell you is it's probably for the best that you stick to other discussions/hobbies of yours such as golf and running.

Mayo was loved by many neutrals for the way their played and made a lot of their games well worth watching. Am I alone in thinking Mayo right now are a bit boring and the upcoming Connacht final will be a real arm wrestling contest and not a game for the purists.

Quote from: RedHand88 on April 20, 2024, 11:59:45 PMDerry were not serious All Ireland contenders ffs. They are at a level below Kerry/Dublin, same as Armagh/Mayo/Galway/Tyrone/Donegal.

A few facts:
They beat Clare and Cork to get to AISFs the last 2 years.
Kerry played sh1te against them last year and still bate them.
They won the league final against Dublin reserves and believed the hype.

I also really think the new structure hurts teams in Derrys position. 4(?) weeks of no championship football before potentially playing Dublin or Kerry.

My prediction: they'll get through the group by beating the guff but will go out at the quarter final stage to a bigger team. Questions will remain over Harte but he will get to stay and we will see the same next year, only a bit worse.

True though they were being mooted with Dublin and Kerry as top 3. That league 'win' (penalty shootout) was very overstated and hyped. Harte got left behind in managing a long time ago. Hadn't beat Dublin, Kerry or Mayo in the championship 2009-2020. I don't think that would
have happened to Rory Gallagher today.

Yeah something like that wouldn't happen with a Rory Gallagher managed team

That championship match was 2017 he'd brought them on a long way since that.. as for a league game irrelevant sure Tyrone got hammered in the league by Kerry in 2021 and took Sam up the road a few months later.
Mickey can't handle th
The big championship games... not in years...

It was relevant as Gallagher's Derry were well beaten by Galway when they met again in the championship that summer.  Donegal today under Jim McGuinness dismantled Derry in similar fashion to that Dublin v Donegal championship match in 2014.  Jim Gavin after that match made Dublin a more careful team in possession and with a strong focus that they wouldn't be caught out as easy on the counter attack again.

Quote from: SouthOfThe Bann on April 20, 2024, 08:22:10 PMHow impressive were Donegal in the midfield battle though

Hugely. You wouldn't have known Glass was playing.  Also worth noting Derry came into that game having scored 16 goals in 8 Division one games and today they scored none and struggled to create any with the way Jimmy had Donegal so well organised.

Quote from: SouthOfThe Bann on April 20, 2024, 09:08:29 PMWas the training camp too close to the game?

Harte no fan of those overseas training camps can see why today.

Quote from: RedHand88 on April 20, 2024, 07:31:44 PMAt least this nonsense of Derry being all ireland contenders can settle down for a while.

Doesn't Harte likes to win the All Ireland after getting knocked out of Ulster?

Quote from: Armagh18 on April 20, 2024, 10:25:44 AMIf there was any justice City would be stripped of all their titles. Will admit that Liverpool side did unbelievably well to get near that financially and I've a feeling physically doped team. Bit like that Mayo team running into the Dubs but at least Liverpool got their title!

Mayo are similar, All Ireland finals there to be won against Dublin in 2016,17 and found ways to lose them and even when they took out Dublin in 2012,2021 they ended up losing to Donegal,Tyrone.  We can all talk about the advantages of Manchester City and how much of soulless club there are however they weren't winning that 2021/22 league title without that Liverpool slip up with a few games to play against Tottenham who they more often than not beat in Anfield.

Quote from: RedHand88 on April 19, 2024, 07:42:08 PMIt is a shame that he came up against 115 charges FC in his tenure which made winning the league nigh on impossible and who knows, if they do throw the book at city in years to come, what he achieved may be more appreciated.
In season 2021/22 it wasn't that as a win against Tottenham at home instead of a draw with three games to play would have won the league title for Liverpool.

Liverpool huffed and puffed and couldn't blow the Atalanta house down. The top three in the Premier League this season all out of Europe the same week and unable to reach a semi final they were favourites to reach.

Helps when you have the experience of a 5-0 win against that opposition on their home patch a few seasons ago.

Appears to be inconvenience for the powers to be. And HQ and have a desire for U19 grade.
What was wrong with u18 and u21 anyway?

Next to nothing. Páraic Duffy pushed for nearly a decade to scrap them before eventually getting his way before stepping down as Director General.

Quote from: Jell 0 Biafra on April 18, 2024, 03:42:46 AMWhat's a soulless club?
A team that wasn't in running to win this competition and that all changed once they became a franchise propped up by an oil money. Whatever they win is not seen as any great achievement.

A good night for competition that's cup football for you. In truth nobody other than Manchester City supporters wanted to see such a soulless club go on to retain the Champions league title. PSG another soulless so for the health on the sport it will be for the best if they don't win it now that favourties are out.
