Last time I was in court I heard a priceless exchange between a suspect and their attorney in the lobby

The guy was claiming that he was a victim of mistaken identity and that it wasn't him caught on CCTV doing whatever it was he was being charged with.

The Attorney asked him could anyone vouch for him and provide an alibi.

He said yes....there was someone, but he only knew their nickname not their real name.

And he didn't know exactly where they lived, but they lived in one of the (sketchy) motels along a well known highway

And he tried to call them but their phone was disconnected.

I didn't wait around but I'm sure the judge took the "alibi" with a pinch of salt

Quote from: inroundthesquare on April 02, 2024, 01:32:57 PMHow Dublin escaped the mini-melee and the final melee after the goal in extra time with a single yellow card is bizarre.

Nothing new in that

How many "card" offenses did James McCarthy commit last year before he was finally given a yellow?

A referee can be bad for both sides, but when the biggest decisions seem to all go one way-that's what upsets people

Are you saying that I'm xenophobic for even posting about it?

(Even though my position is in line with 59% of people polled by the Irish times)

I leave it here:

Do people have legitimate reasons (not fueled by Xenophoba or Racism) to be angry about how the government has handled this crisis?

I'm talking about you. Not other people. Other people might post about all the reasons that affect health waiting lists as well as the impact of immigration. However if they ignore all other reasons and solely focus on immigration as the cause then I'd tend to think they're a bit xenophobic as well.

Hope that's clear.

So what you're saying is that people can have legitimate concerns about immigration policies-that aren't based on racism or xenophobia

(But me posting about them is racist/xenophobic because I don't post about other things)

Interesting!

I don't really want to explain it for the 3rd time. Especially as we both know that you understand exactly what I'm saying.

Its the oldest trick in the book

Suppress dissenting points of view by accusing people of being racist

How do you know what I post on other

I think Michael Ring would be fairly indicative of FG thinking in Mayo and he doesn't lambaste immigrants.
https://www.rte.ie/radio/radio1/clips/22374985/

Who is lambasting immigrants?  Certainly not me

I'm lambasting the governments handling of the crisis by either not enforcing existing law or offering welfare payments to Ukrainians that seem to be crazy compared to EU averages

Great-we've reached a consensus then

So if a person is upset about the financial cost of the Ukrainians to the Irish taxpayer, they are neither racist nor xenophobic

Any any all complaints/concerns regarding migrants/refugees/asylum seekers are driven by racism or stupidity or both

If you're a taxpayer how dare you question the funneling of hundreds of millions in taxpayer money to immigration when basic services such as healthcare, law enforcement and education go unfounded

Should be an interesting election season

I think the point is why are you not as agitated about other perhaps more significant issues such as the aforementioned tax evasion on the likes of the Healthcare, law enforcement etc if you can explain that, then people might be less likely to label you as potentially racist for constantly referring it back to immigration.

Who said I'm not agitated about all these other things........we just happen to be discussing immigration and in my opinion people have legitimate beefs with the government over how they've handled this crisis

Whether it's the non
enforcement of our own laws, or suddenly finding hundreds of millions of Euros in funding for refugees while basic services for the population at large are seriously underfunded

Do you think they have handled it properly?

It's obvious from your posts your more motivated by the impact of immigration than others aspects that affect healthcare and service provision. I'd say 80% + of your posts are on immigration. If it's just because of the impact immigration has on other services then why aren't you as vocal about the other major factors?

Can you understand why it looks like racism?

Refresh my memory-exact what race do Ukrainians (and Georgians) belong to?

I don't believe they're the only ones that have you hot and bothered. But I'm quite happy to change the word to xenophobic if you prefer?
