This signing would imply that Chelsea have passed on him and have someone better lined up.

What I have read is that the player had a preferred destination and it wasn't Chelsea, but that could be talk after the fact.

I would say Mino Raoila has something to do with it

Everton now saying there's no agreement in place.

Come on Chelsea, put another few mill onto the ticket.
Doesn't matter United fans didn't want him now anyway...

Any of the United fans on here have given a realistic assessment of the proposed transfer. I don't think anyone getting carried away either way.

Perhaps Lukaku just preferred a move to a big club?

Maureen is turning Utd into long ball merchants for a full 90mins rather than the last 15mins.
Utd thinking they are purveyors of fast flowing football are a distant memory now.

Was it JM that got rid of Lukaku from Chelsea when he was there?

That's what he has done everywhere he has been - why would it be different this time. As BCB say though there are big doubts about Lukaku.....just don't think he's tough or mean enough. Perhaps Jose can bring that out of him....who knows?

It just gets more depressing all the time.

As an Everton fan, I've watched Lukaku with interest over the last 4 years and he's a huge strong lad with loads of pace. He doesn't win a lot of headers though and doesn't like playing with his back to the goal.

Still when he takes the notion he's an animal and very hard to stop. I just think for Everton, half the time he lacked motivation and wouldn't always put in the work. He's not great at bringing all players into the game but he will still score you 20+ goals every season and rarely seems to be injured.

Not quite. Lukaku asked to leave when told he wouldn't be a first choice striker.

His PL goal tally over the past few years speaks for itself and  £75M for one of the PL's best strikers at 24 years isn't a huge risk when you look at a 28 year old French league player is coming in for 52M.  If he continues to develop he could hit 25 a season for the next 5 years.

Lacazette is 26, and apart from size is an all-round better player than Lazy Lu. Lacazette presses defenders and keeps them honest, Lukaku will score a brace one week and then go missing for a fortnight.

Man United are fetishising size with Lukaku and Morata, but at least the later has a better workrate and touch.

I see sky sports saying lukaku isn't signing a new contract for Everton. I wonder will we make a bid in summer if we get top 4? Or is he keen on move abroad. Could do a pogba and return to Chelsea either.

Would love to see him at Utd. He is a top striker.

I'll be delighted if it turns out Utd get him. He is quality and has already proved it.

I would wager Lukaku will score more and assist more than Lacazette. Not because I think Lukaku is worth that money but just that Lacazette may not be as big a sucess as you think. Also scoring goals for Everton is no guarantee that he will score 20+ for Utd. Would be great if football worked like that.

Lukaku scores more goals though, and will likely end up getting better goal returns over the next few years due to age and the team he will be playing in.

Chelsea have matched the bid but won't meet Raoilas fees according to Telegraph, no surprise. He is almost imbedded at United now.
