I remember being at a minor club game and Martin Coyle and Liam Donnelly had just managed Tyrone to 2004 All Ireland minor final. This aul boy was complaining that lad from his club wasn't on the team. I ses, "They just won the All Ireland!"... he replied, "Just about..." Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Yes I'm involved at local level. And the GAA is an overwhelming force for good across Ireland, but Joe is disparaging of other sports as if they are less worthy or less valid in their endeavours and has a holier than ye view on the GAA as if there aren't real issues. Maybe the Prof could do a paper on the incidence of assault across codes or untaxed second incomes (paid managers), I'd suggest GAA doesn't fare favourably to the average golf soccer or rubgy club.

The GAA at local level has done more to hold communities together than any other organisation, church included.. during good times and challenging times such as huge immigration, the war years and Covid... not sure has Joe ridiculed golf! I enjoy soccer and rugby as much as the next man but isn't comparable what they do on a wider community level and have their own assaults too I'm sure cud be dug out of the archives

Joe is a GAA evangelist, and more power to him, buts its OK to point out that its not a bed of roses, and that a GAA up-sell doesn't need to go hand in hand with pulling the efforts of other people in other codes down, their contribution is no less valid or worthy, or are we saying there is a hierarchy of contribution of Irish society/goodness/greatness. Can't see that happening. Think only us, Dublin and Kerry have this policy (I stand to be corrected). Personally, I want the policy to continue. It would be an admission that there's no one good enough within the county to do the job. I would never believe that.

Agreed plenty of good coaches from Tyrone. Was Tally took Kerry across the line in 2022. The difference in the back division was most evident when he went there... Jack knew what he was doing getting him in.

Is obvious too many games... I think you can lose three games and remain in the championship. Is hardly 'championship' football. People be inclined to wait to quarter-finals.
