Quote from: imtommygunn on September 07, 2023, 02:47:56 PMffs sf they're well conditioned yes but they're fantastic hurlers. If you're just putting this down to s&c then you're missing quite a bit here. Have you noticed as well as anything that they also shift their tactics round that time when they notice how the opposition is playing?
It's the combination but the key difference is the power boost. And it's like a multiplication. Some other teams are skilled but they don't have the power.
I also think that Limerick's power peaks in the championship endgame. They were just as skilled in Munster

It's hurling not a video game  ;D

Some of the KK lads are a bit off on the S&C though, take Tom Phelan, I thought he was a young lad, 21 or 22 or so, but he's 27.

A fine hurler but was bounced about and lost possession twice in the tackle in the second half that I can remember. Now he'd have been better off not going into those tackles although a lot of the time with Limerick those tackles come to you..

On the flip side, take Cathal O'Neill or Adam English, bit part players, 20 to 21 years old and far better conditioned for this type of hurling.

Kilkenny do have a bit of catching up to do in terms of S&C, no doubt but it starts in the youth teams and not when they're adults.

In fairness, Phelan was probably one of KK's best players in the final.  Iirc, he got 3pts after being emptied by WOD after 5 mins.

Phelan gave Byrnes a hard time of it when Kilkenny were going well in the first half

And how they become "celebrities" is another matter, more often than not zero talent

Quote from: NAG1 on September 22, 2023, 10:46:47 AMI'm not even sure the county are overly bothered by the attendance on the day especially these big games, as long as the number of streams keep rolling in.

Would they not make more on the gate than streaming as Jerome takes a fair whack of that, is my understanding. Though going by their social media output it's streaming or nothing. They still promote the games and direct you to pay for the stream when the game is over

Quote from: Rossfan on September 19, 2023, 02:01:38 PMSo they're only 13th so, not as big a fall as I thought.

Yeah and I read something in the examiner earlier that depopulation and lack of land to build private housing in that area has had an adverse effect on northside clubs

Makes them 25th in the rankings now.

No they go into Senior

No they go to Senior A now as far as I know, Cork have 5 grades with 12 in each for championship

It's  Premier Senior,  Senior A, Premier Intermediate, Intermediate A & Premier Junior

Quote from: Rossfan on September 18, 2023, 06:30:49 PMGlen Rovers 97 years Senior and 1 of the traditional big 3 in Cork.
A result of inner City depopulation?

More to do with the design of the Cork hurling championship, 3 groups of 4 with relegation, so it's cut throat. I don't think it's part of any great malaise, they still have Horgan and the two Downeys & won Cork minor last year (I think) or maybe two years ago.

4.30pm would let everyone get to both without rushing.

You the fixtures guy at Antrim? Game changed to 4.30pm now apparently.

They obviously read the board  ;D

Probably more to do with Gleeson being up this weekend to take in games, I had heard he wasnt overly amused by the scheduling of the games this weekend

I assume he would have taken in both IHC "playoff" games if he could have

How big an area is Dunloy? They're some club!

Their catchment area runs further than the parish boundary

I was told it's a fair bit bigger than say 20 years ago I think. Has there been new housing developments ?

He might was well enjoy the next half. It will be his last for a very long while.

There is plenty of opportunity for that type of thing. A good long ban is deserved but should also act as a deterrent

One game ban for Glynn  ???

Yeah really bizarre having a big game in Hannahstown, it falls down in quite a few areas. No criticism of the club as that's not their concern, but still
