Quote from: Hoof Hearted on July 21, 2024, 07:50:50 PMReckoned at half time that Downeys goal was best in ai final history, might not even be best in the game.

Kelly's is as good a goal as I've seen in an AI final. A few of his points were out of the top drawer as well. Him and McCarthy stood up in the 2nd half of ET when Clare needed them.

Quote from: marty34 on July 19, 2024, 09:14:45 AMI think KS was Denmark's POTY about 4 times in the last 8/10 years.

A decent goalie will save Celtic points in Scotland but a real quality keeper will keep a load of clean sheets.

Need to add more quality to the panel now. A few lads shipped out - got £2m profit on Oh I think. Good bit of business there. Need more lads shipped out and tighten the wage bill.

I thought Oh was decent, a bit raw obviously but had potential.

I apologise in advance for being completely pedantic here but panel = GAA and squad = soccer ;D

Highly likely too he wouldn't have got a game this year either if Rafferty hadn't got that serious injury last year.

Quote from: Captain Scarlet on July 16, 2024, 11:32:44 AMA good manager would still not be able to get all the stars crammed into the starting 11. Then they will be on the back foot straight away.

We want Trent!, etc.

Plus, when you look at some of the players who stepped up, there is no guarantee of Watkins, Palmer and more producing year on year.

They still have no left back coming through either.

On a side note it is criminal they didn't start Trent. Their right flank left exposed by Big Daddy for both goals in the final and Spain capitalised.

Somehow picked in the official team of the tournament too. He was pretty poor throughout.

Quote from: Armagh18 on July 15, 2024, 01:50:14 PMSurely the GAA won't find a way to give Clifford one?

Who are we thinking for footballer of the year? From an Armagh pov Turbo and McCambridge have been unreal, a big final from Rian would have him in contention too.

Conaty could be in with a shout of young player of the year although he hadn't his best day on Saturday.

A good player having a great season but I thought he had a nightmare on Saturday. Clifford did not do enough to justify an all star, never thought I would be saying that in the 2020's
Yeah watched it back there earlier and he put a huge shift in but just one of them days where everything he touched went wrong.

I wonder is there a possibility the likes of Duffy or Jarly Og come in for him the next day for a bit of size against that Galway team. He'd be some man to bring off the bench.

Any chance Soupy Campbell gets nominated off the bench he's hit some vital scores the last few games

Cathal McShane got a nomination in 2021 having been a sub.

I'm probably biased but Darragh Canavan has been as good a forward as there has been this year. I know he won't get one as your team has to reach a semi final minimum but think he should be in the conversation.

Quote from: PMG1 on July 15, 2024, 11:04:53 AMWould think McCole for Donegal would be in with a very good shout, not McHugh tough. Silke for Galway and Dylan McHugh gotta be certs. McCambridge for Armagh a definite. I know they weren't involved in the latter stages but Niall Morgan head and shoulders the standout for No. 1, all others have made mistakes along the way

I would agree with Morgan.
But i suspect he will be overlooked

Morgan has been the best keeper in Ireland this year by a fair stretch imo but unfortunately the way all stars work he won't get one.

If Walsh has another final like he did 2 years ago he could well get player of the year but Dylan McHugh has been superb this year for Galway. A bit of an old school half back that can defend and attack.

When England equalised, Spain got a hold of the ball for the next 10/15 minutes and ran rings around England. Deserving winners and if they can unearth a decent striker they'd be big favourites for the World Cup.

England not gonna win things with Jordan Pickford hoofing the ball up the pitch every time he gets it. Kane is done at that level. He'll still score goals in the German league but he offered nothing to England. Still it's another golden boot to his collection.

Quote from: tonto1888 on July 12, 2024, 07:01:33 PMI see Kieran Hughes from Monaghan had said the Armagh players will take a 2 point loss. Sums up monaghans attitude really

It's as bad a bit of analysis as I've ever heard. No wonder Monaghan didn't win any AI semi finals if that is in Kieran Hughes' thinking.
I'm sure he doesn't mean 'take' as in accept it/ be satisfied with it... probably means will take as be on the receiving end if it... ?

His exact words 'if you told an Armagh player they'd lose by 2 points at the weekend they'll take that with both hands I can assure you of that'. Even the presenter was shocked and Hughes doubled down on it. Just a very strange bit of analysis.
Ok. Thats terrible.

Yeah as I say it's strange.

Not really seeing the logic behind his tweet earlier about Cara Hunter running in East Derry after she tweeted criticising an effigy of Colum Eastwood on a bonfire. Unfortunately I'm not as intelligent as Joe to understand the link.
