I was 9 years old at the time! But in fairness one of my overbiding memories of 1986 is that Zico was let down by his team, but that Platini let his team down. I can't possibly back either statement up, but the thread is about world cup memories, however fuzzy.

As for Moeller, playing among the most functional, boring teams of all time - that is the Germans of the 90s - he stood out like a bright light along with Sammer and Kilnsmann.

Dominated by Italians and Brazilians but they have been the most consistent in those 4 tournaments.  The central midfield is questionable but I can't think of better midfield performances that Davids in 98 and Pirlo in 06.  Hard to leave out Desailly who was awesome in 98 but you would have a hard job getting past that Italian back 3 with Baresi as libero.

was helped by fact they announced this before
the final.. Crazy in light of what happened after.

I would have to side slightly with Rossie, before he got the two goals in the final he wasn't overly impressive, memory is foggy enough though. He had a better 2006 tournament in my view.

Yep & IMO Zidane's performance v Brazil in the last world cup was the best individual performance I've seen since Maradona in 1986

You kidding? He was MOTM in every game he played that competition. Exceptional midfielder.

ZZ had such a high club standard that I'm judging him
more harshly than others who came from nowhere to perform
on big stage.
He will be more remembered in 06 for the indiscipline
than the brilliance unfortunately.
