Has Ben McDonnell ever played at wing back before or did he just pick the first 15 that came into mind and let them choose where ever they want to play.
Judging by the way we've played so far I couldn't be arsed making the journey up from Dublin to watch more crab football.
Wonder how much Monaghan will use the mark this time and do Tyrone have a plan to stop it.
We seemed to have all sorts of problems with knowing what to do when a mark is called.
The defenders dont want to back away now as the player can play on and maybe go for a goal or if they stand and block him the ref can move it forward.

What's the odds on Morgan scoring another from play this week?

Fair enough but you do remember that 3 competitive games ago we were contesting an All Ireland final? Right?
That was never a square ball!!

the all ireland final was not a contest.

It was hardly a contest. Not one tyrone supporter i talked to had any belief in winning the final. Please stop with the we got to an ai final last year. The only decent team we played on route was monaghan.

Can you honestly say if we had of played kerry or mayo in the semi final that we would have won?.

Its time to be realistic and stop blinding hoping for a miracle. We will not be close to winning an ai for at least another 4 years.

Please stop this nonsense that we got to an All Ireland final by default. Kerry and Dublin have been doing that for years. You beat who you have to beat and those other teams just weren't good enough last year. Also, we were beaten by the best team in a generation, possibly the best ever, if anyone thinks our panel is at that level then they are in cloud cuckoo land, so of course we were going into that game in hope rather than expectation. But anyway, that undermines your argument, if you think we are so bad and 4 years off an AI win, yet we were playing in All Irelahd final 5 months ago, then we are punching way above our weight. You are absolutely right though, it's time to stop blindly hoping for a miracle - (the same miracle we were one win away from last year), and start being realistic. We don't have the team if 10 years ago, we have competed relatively well in the past 2 seasons (bar v Dublin) given that our panel is a little shy of top level, especially in the forward line - so why are we so critical? If realism is what you are after then celebrate that we got as far as we did last year, stop looking for reasons to downplay that achievement, accept that we are only 3 games into a new season, we are trying to adapt our game a little by playing a bit more long ball into our ff line and hold off on mad negative comments until we are either relegated or out of the championship.

The thing is mayo and Kerry were poor in last year's championship and the reason they didn't get to the all Ireland semi final was because they weren't good enough and this was proven over a number of games. Tyrone beat Donegal and Monaghan who operated at a level above them.

It's got to the stage where the Tyrone county thread should be closed. It's being use to abuse Mickey harte and the players. Like last year it's kicked of after a few league defeats in February. It's only really only stg, a few of his made up friends and a couple of others that take it to far but they have totally ruined the discussion. A bit like the Sunday game in recent years you never get to discuss the game in hand but have to deal with their agenda.

I've been very disappointed with Tyrone's performances to date but can't get my head round how that would lead people into giving such personal nasty abuse.

Tyrone running down the clock in the first half.

Tyrone running through Monaghan like a dose of salts in the second half!

Fair play Tyrone tonight. Didnt see that performance coming. If we could play like that more often it would give us hope. Well done.

From rte.ie Martin O'Rourke article
The meeting of Ulster's 'Big Two' on Saturday night shone a spotlight on the concerted effort Monaghan are making to expand their kicking game.

There were plenty of mistakes but in the first half it was fascinating to watch their thought processes in possession and the additional forward movement as a consequence.

Tyrone very definitely changed their approach for the All-Ireland final last year but on the evidence of this weekend, Mickey Harte has more faith in the tactics that took them to the showpiece for the first time in nine years.

In a game when the result had become critical to Division 1 survival for the Red Hand, they reverted to what they know best and what they do extremely well – a deep lying defence with a single attacking focal point to run off.

Ultimately it was an old experiment that created the platform for a very impressive victory.

When Mattie Donnelly was deployed as the attacking focus, the players very obviously had more faith in kicking early to him and suddenly all of their running had forward momentum.

A simple personnel adjustment but one that shifted the mindset of the whole team.

The Inner Game

Of all the championship hopefuls building capacity through the league, Malachy O'Rourke now has the biggest headache after Saturday night.

Monaghan can set aside talk of tactics or game-plan for they have a more fundamental question in front of them.

In a game that obviously mattered a great deal to them, Tyrone brought an intensity and physicality that was a level above anything I'd seen this year in the league.

They were ripping and tearing at every contest and gave their opponents very little space to make decisions in.

The Monaghan players will have awoken Sunday morning fully aware that they were found wanting in the face of a scrap – the complete antithesis of what this team has represented in recent seasons.

If a team are not prepared to step towards a fight together, feel the napalm in their lungs in the pursuit of a foothold in the game and stand their ground in adversity it really doesn't matter what the plan is with and without the ball.

Training will be very simple for the Farney men this week. Management will be asking the tough questions and there will be doubts until they see answers in Killarney next Sunday afternoon

Monaghan's tactics were weird. A few points down at the end of the first half, they allowed Tyrone to keep ball untouched.

You'd nearly think the Dub win made them take a step back this early in the year.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Nothing weird about it.. they were a man down so it was a case of wind down the clock to half time and on the sin bin
