Hi All,

Looking to buy a road bike but not sure what I'm looking for. Any helpful hints or best buy for a beginner?

Any help welcome.

Thanks,

Eoin Beag

Motor bike or push bike?

Not many motor bikers on this board.

Things to take into account

Budget
Size - of u & size of bike u require
Comfort or speed in mind, as you've Sportive & more racing minded geometry

Hard to go wrong with a Trek or a Specialised, 2 biggest sellers. Spec Allez range is race minded, Secteur more Sportive.

Got myself a Trek 1.1 (£450) last year through the cycle to work scheme from Caldwells in Omagh.
It's the bottom of the range Trek road bike, but I think its great. Been flat out on it since Christmas, done a 60mile charity ride last week and just signed up for a 100mile one in May.

I can use the cycle scheme every year, so think the next time I'll probably spend the full £1000 on a higher spec bike, now that I know I'm going to stick at it.

Go to your local cycle shop and get fitted properly for it. Most will negotiate price

Is it about a bicycle?
Umpteen posts about bikes for beginners. Must try harder Hardy.

O dear, o dear, seems you weren't in the best of form when you wrote that and your direct answer to the OP as well.
Hardy asked a perfectly logical question.
Go check Orior's post (#4) if you don't follow me.
Methinks you are the one who needs to try harder. ;D

I did a few days a week during the summer. I have the bike down home now, so only use it at the weekends, but might start cycling to work again as the weather has improved

At least you do it once in a while. Most of the ones I know who avail of this scheme don't bother their arse and the bike is sold onto someone else.
