GAA Discussion / Mullaghbrack GFC Versus The GAA.
September 30, 2017, 02:19:54 PM
I was talking to an old friend that used to play for Mullaghbrack GFC which sadly folded years ago, the Ladies have a team and they play at their lovely wee ground just outside Markethill, he claims the GAA are trying to claim the property as their own as the club no longer exists, when the ladies are mentioned he tells me the line from HQ is simply the the ladies team is not part of the equation, that vexes me as they just had 48,000 plus at the ladies senior final and had no problem taking the kesh!

I have no idea if their claim has any validity but it appears that there is going to be a legal battle over this situation, has anyone any idea how things work when clubs fold pertaining to their assets etc? In the case I am talking about the community owned the property outright however received some funding from the GAA.

It was great to see Ireland recognize the contribution the Choctaw Nation gave us in 1847 at the height of the famine, they had little to nothing themselves yet they sent us money to help feed our ancestors and they undoubtedly saved lives.

The monument is a sublime piece of art and will stand as a permanent reminder to us all of the tremendous gift the Choctaw people gave us in our most desperate of times, I think it was great to see their Chief and nation members attend the ceremony and I for one thank the nation for the magnificent gesture.

I think this is a disgrace and speaks volumes of the lack of character in todays game, I would vote option number 1.

I was thinking about world class athletes that I would have loved to have seen live in their pomp, for me I would have loved to have seen George Best playing for United or even with Rodney Marsh, here is the wish list of my top ten.

1. Jack Batten, Armagh Harps and Armagh. Jack was a neighbor of mine and he was a collollus of a man, legendary full back for club and county and starred in the 53 final against the kingdom, number one hero of mine.

2. Carl Lewis, what an athlete, the man revolutionized the sport of athletics and he was all about coaching and helping aspiring youngsters and team mates alike.

3. Sugar Ray Leonard, quite simply the most natural pugilist the world has ever seen, he came from an affluent family and was gifted with intelligence, good looks and at his best no one ever came close to his greatness in my opinion.

4. Jim Thorp, Jim was a multi sport athlete, he came from a native American family that was dirt poor but he overcame prejudice and class discrimination to become an Olympic great and football icon.

5. Bo Jackson, quite simply Americas greatest ever multiple sport athlete, Bo was a blue chip athlete in track, football and baseball, he was blessed with incredible power, balance and speed, he got screwed out of his final year of baseball by the Dolphins who lied to and subsequently picked him in the draft, after him telling them he would never play fir them, he was a man if his word and they ended up losing him, he played baseball for much less money and his power with the bat and fielding skills are unmatched, as is his character.

6. Barry Sanders, I hate the Lions, he was the Lions, I loved me Barry Sanders, the man was tiny for a running back but he was strong like bull, could run like the wind and he could make moves that were incredible to make defenders miss, he quit at the height if his powers because the Lions lied to him, another principled megastar, and one who shunned the limelight.

7. George Best, flawed genius and folk hero, the enigmatic wait from east Belfast will never be forgotten for many reasons, mist good, some not so much, I loved him for his attitude, as sublime as he was on the field, if you tried to cut him in two he would hurt you back, he was blessed with incredible speed, balance and was always two moves ahead if anybody else on the field.

8. Diego Armando Maradonna: What can you say about thus man, bow legged footballing legend that gave a nation its pride back after absolutely abusing the English midfield AND defense in just seconds, he was an incredible player for clubs and country but  saved his best for Argentina.

9. Pele.strength the face of Brazilian football this footballing God is considered by many as the greatest of all time, power and strength as well as a genius for scoring goals made Pele a hero and icon across the world, he would have been something to see at his best.

10.Muhammad Ali, strange one for me this, as great as greatness I was never a huge fan but I recognize his greatness all the same, in his pomp he could not be hit, I admired greatly his anti war stance and his rationale for not going to war, the world was robbed of his best years yet he is still one of the greatest ever to lace up a glove and certainly the most beloved.

General discussion / Portrush gets the Open
October 21, 2015, 12:54:06 AM
Royal Portrush will host the British open in 2019, I am delighted for the area as it will be a much needed boost to the  local economy and it will come in an era were we Irish have several players capable of winning the thing on home soil.

I am sure there will be begrudgers and all that but feck them, tens of thousands of people from all over the world will get to witness northern culture at the best time of the year they could possibly do so, they will also get to witness a tremendous venue and great atmosphere that is unique to Ireland and Ireland alone.

General discussion / Wullie the protesting protestant!
October 12, 2015, 03:58:41 PM
LOYALIST victims campaigner Willie Frazer has said he is considering organising a protest at Belfast International Airport over what he claims is its lack of "Northern Ireland" branded souvenirs.

The Armagh man said the airport had become filled with "a sea of green leprechauns and pro-Irish paraphernalia", in reference to tourist merchandise which carries the Ireland logo.

In a social media posting, Mr Frazer hit out at the north's main airport, asking "where's your Northern Ireland merchandise?"

Alongside a photograph of shirts branded 'Ireland' in a souvenir shop at the airport, Mr Frazer said he was "seriously considering" organising a protest.

"Selling Irish goods and souvenirs is one thing but when every last vestige of Northern Ireland's place within the UK is totally obliterated by a sea of green leprechauns and pro-Irish paraphernalia - well that's ... a hate crime against NI British citizens," he claimed.

In a further post prior to the Northern Ireland vs Greece game on Thursday night, Mr Frazer wrote: "Belfast International Airport, we exist and we dare to dream so catch yourselves on. Get Northern Ireland and Ulster stuff on your shelves."

At this time in history we have a toothless United Nations who refuse to aid people who desperately need help, obviously on here the darling's of oppression are the people of Gaza, and that is fine, but what about the Christians and Bhuddists in Egypt who are being rounded up, taken to mountain tops and are being told to convert to Islam or be tortued and Killed?

What about the people of Darfur and Southern Sudan, is there any sympathy for these folk? And if so why the hell are the UN not intervening to protect these people???

I despise the UN, How can the US, Brits, French etc justify being part of this useless, toothless organization and why is there no world wide campaign for them to act??? People are dying by the thousands every day and these bastards sit on their hands!!!

General discussion / Racing Bike Question.
July 13, 2014, 06:30:41 PM
I want a racing bike over there, anyone know roughly how much you could get a good racing bike for? I am going to use it six months a year over there and I have a mountain bike I use in the states. Can you get anything modern/decent for a grand or less???? I would be up for used as well.

Thanks AO for letting me know I was in the wrong area with my former question.

I see the psni are harassing nationalists again in Belfast, claiming that hurls are weapons, given that a fair amount of the peelers are from a nationalistic background I am struggling to understand why this is being allowed to happen.

The GAA is still on the radar for these bastards and the next time they harass a young fella for carrying a cricket bat will be the first time!

Sadly I see very little progress being made in the wee six and it sickens me that the nationalist community is still targeted by the policing body in place in the six counties!

Big Paul at the helm of the County team, big Joe once again gracing the sidelines of Crossmaglen Rangers, add in the history between the two and I am fearful of a deepening conflict between Cross and the County set up.

Joe has four son's on the panel, is there tension there now between them and Grimley or can we expect both men to be professional and do what's right for both the club and the county? obviously my wish is that they find common ground for the betterment of us all but knowing that there is no love lost between them I am not holding my breath.

What do you lot think about what we have going on now in the Club/County relationship and how are the players reacting to it all?

General discussion / Be careful what you wish for!
March 29, 2013, 06:15:39 PM
United States President Barack Obama has signed a bill into law that was written in part by the very billion-dollar corporation that will benefit directly from the legislation.

On Tuesday, Pres. Obama inked his name to H.R. 933, a continuing resolution spending bill approved in Congress days earlier. Buried 78 pages within the bill exists a provision that grossly protects biotech corporations such as the California-based Monsanto Company from litigation.

With the president's signature, agriculture giants that deal with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and genetically engineered (GE) seeds are given the go-ahead to continue to plant and sell man-made crops, even as questions remain largely unanswered about the health risks these types of products pose to consumers.

In light of approval from the House and Senate, more than 250,000 people signed a petition asking the president to veto the spending bill over the biotech rider tacked on, an item that has since been widely referred to as the "Monsanto Protection Act."

"But Obama ignored [the petition]," IB Times' Connor Sheets writes, "instead choosing to sign a bill that effectively bars federal courts from being able to halt the sale or planting of GMO or GE crops and seeds, no matter what health consequences from the consumption of these products may come to light in the future."

James Brumley, a reporter for Investor Place, explains a little more thoroughly just how dangerous the rider is now that biotech companies are allowed to bypass judicial scrutiny. Up until it was signed, he writes, "the USDA [US Department of Agriculture] oversaw and approved (or denied) the testing of genetically modified seeds, while the federal courts retained the authority to halt the testing or sale of these plants if it felt that public health was being jeopardized. With HR 933 now a law, however, the court system no longer has the right to step in and protect the consumer."

If the president's signature isn't all that surprising, though, consider the genesis of the bill itself. According to an article published Monday in the New York Daily News, US Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Missouri) "worked with Monsanto to craft the language in the bill."

This man is setting himself up for private life, he is as bad as the hypocrite liberal who ran for VP a few years ago, who now makes millions campaigning for green living and small carbon footprints by all, eyt his electricity bill for a month at one of his mansions was $8,000 for the billing cycle, yes one billing cycle.

There is little difference between the two main parties at this stage, they are both disgraceful in their hypocrisy.

Just wondering if anyone knows how you would go about setting up a gaelic football club in the states. I have been coaching soccer for about 20 years but since I started fusing some gaelic football into training there has been a lot of interest.

I thought I read on here a while back that the GAA charged plenty to start a new club, does anyone know what that total is???

April 09, 2010, 07:16:57 PM
I have just watched a collection of youtube videos on Chris kamara and Jeff Stelling, I remember Kamara as a player but I have to say he is hysterical as a reporter and plays very well of Stelling. I laughed me arse of at the clip were he didnt realize a player was sent off, the craic in the studio was ninety, do you know of any other good clips with Kamara or Stelling anywere at all?
