General discussion / Re: America`s Gun Culture
« on: May 25, 2022, 12:07:25 PM »
Constitution aside, even if it was changed, it is still incredibly easy to get your hands on a gun in some US states.

There are almost 400 million guns in the hands of civilians in the US - thats about 120 guns for every 100 people.

It accounts for 46% of civilian held guns globally.

Those stats are mind blowing alone.....not to mention the other guns on the streets that are not accounted for.

So if the constitution changes tomorrow would it make a difference given how many guns are readily available?

Its a complete mess
So is the only alternative to do nothing?
Surely some level of gun control is better than the current situation? It might have a while to have an effect but might slowy reduce the level of gun ownership over time.

I'm pointing out this this is not the resolution that will change things in the here and now.

Granted it might slowly reduce over time (it will be a long long time) but the issue is over 400million guns are out there.
America may well have went past the point of no return when it comes to gun culture, but surely they have to try SOMETHING at this stage?
Powerful stuff from Steve Kerr in his press conference, but its unlikely to change many intrenched opinions either.
There is no simple solution to this, but banning assault rifles and having stricter background checks along side some sort of buy back scheme is bound to at least get the direction of travel going the right way?

As you say there is no simple solution unfortunately.

My worry would be that the changes are made and then another massacre occurs.

Could you imagine the outcry of 'I told you so' fuckwits that oppose changes?

Imagine your kids doing active shooter drills in school - absolutely insane

Welcome to Ireland

Here at Dublin Airport gypos feel free to welcome visitors to our country by knocking 7 shades of shite out of each other, all the while scoby's take videos with their phones.

What would you suppose they do instead?

Walk on by perhaps

I dont think that is part of the issue or the problem here?

I dislike people whipping their phones out to record things but in this instance it may actually force the airport to address the shitshow there.
Without it being recorded it would simply be swept under the carpet

Nothing will happen, these are serial offenders. They can do what they like.

I meant in the airport.

Agree - those boys just do as they please in society in general

The biggest difference is the squad.

Klopp built a super team - not a super squad.

You can see he has made improvements with regards to the squad but City built a squad and in a PL season you rely on a bigger group of players.

It was almost a guessing game some weeks who would start for City - with everyone fit you could name 9/10 starters for Liverpool every week

Liverpool are a great cup team

Without yet taking time to descend a rabbit hole of stats, I do believe that this season City and Scouse weren’t far off equal in terms of squad rotation during the EPL.

Without also going down the rabbit hole the players City brought in are superior to Liverpools IMHO.

We'll really see what this Tyrone management are made of.  Derry nailed every tactic that was deployed and we were kept outside shooting range for most of the game. What is plan c, d, e and how quickly can the team adapt? McShane needs to deliver. Discipline needs to be better. Make Armagh do the fouling. This is the business end of the season and Armagh may be a bit greener than Tyrone (at this stage) so Tyrone to shade it.

Armagh will do the fouling - that is a given.

I woud spring Cathal from the bench as the game opens up more

12
This is the one we wanted.

Will certainly focus the minds.

Would expect us to be favourites for this - after the early season surge Armagh have shown they are a top 8 team at best.

BH - absolutely flying - well done

Positive arguments or not I dont know any unionists that would go for it.

You can try to sell it all you want but its in their blood and they dont want to be part of a UI.

I have found it impossible to even get them to see an alternative - and I would certainly class these people a middle of the road unionists.

I can only imagine whats its like around the Shankhill etc
