and dont forget he was best mates with yon tube Malcolm X,

who when he went to Mecca on the Haj met with white Muslims and realised what a tool Elijah Mohammed was and was booted out of the Black Muslims for no longer believing the White Devil mantra.

We'll never know if he would have moderated as he was assinated like Martin Luther King and so we'll never know.

On a serious note though, shouldn't the loosing team be presented with runners up medals on the day instead of Hip Hip Hooray and leaving them lying on the ground looking distressed?

Who wants be paraded as the loser?

Good to know.

Travelled to Latvia with Air Baltic and flew back with Ryanair.  Both were brilliant (I was in a wheelchair) but both services gave good priority service, staff at both airports were brilliant and a very enjoyable time was had.

turns out it was dirty red diesel, car has been in the mechanics 5 weeks and still isn't fixed. >:(

Have you tried other mechanics?  If it has taken 5 weeks to tell you your injectors are f..ked it doesn't sound as if your mechanic knows a lot or doesn't have the equipment to check injectors.

Did you tell all when you bought it in?  Red diesel works well enough in tractors and I would imagine that current tractor engines wouldn't be or a lower standard than a car.

Do you know anybody who doesn't work in a garage but is good with cars/does their own servicing?  Talk to them about the car and see what they think.  They may also know a good breakers yard where you might get some injectors. If you go down that route, ask the breakers yard can you see the engine that they come from running or maybe get a guarantee.

Best of luck.

GAA Discussion / Who'd be a referee?
September 02, 2009, 03:24:21 PM
Cavan referee Brian Crowe has expressed his disappointment at the reaction to John Bannon's decision to overlook John Miskella's indiscretion in Cork's All-Ireland semi-final win over Tyrone.

Bannon decided against upgrading Miskella's yellow card to a red on reviewing a video tape of the player striking out at Brian McGuigan, and while the decision received mixed reviews, the retiring Longford official didn't have to endure the same criticism or suffer the same consequences as Crowe did when he was caught up in a similar controversy in the 2007 All-Ireland semi-final between Cork and Meath.

Crowe was asked to review footage of an incident involving Noel O'Leary and Graham Geraghty, and like Bannon, decided against upgrading O'Leary's yellow card to a red, which meant that he didn't miss the All-Ireland final against Kerry.

Since then, Crowe has been overlooked for all the major matches and is still angry at the manner in which he was hung out to dry.

"Even the dogs in the street know it was the end for me as regards big matches," he told the Belfast Telegraph.

"You only have to look at the handful of games I subsequently got.

"John Bannon's stepping down from refereeing now and he won't suffer the fate that befell me.

"Basically what I was being asked to do was put a player out of an All Ireland final, but as far as I was concerned the offence didn't merit anything more than a yellow card.

"Ultimately I was the one that suffered. This is my final year of refereeing at national level.

"To be truthful in the light of all that's happened I'm glad to be finishing up."

The 2006 All-Ireland final referee added: "I've nothing left to prove to anyone, but I will continue to referee at juvenile, minor and senior and whatever here in my own county and will still be available to the Ulster Council for all championship matches.

"I've always felt comfortable working with good people in my own province."

Does he have a point?

General discussion / Muhammad Ali - Freeman of Ennis

Saw on RTE news that Muhammad Ali was made a freeman of Ennis yesterday.  His great or great, great grandfather came from there.

Who'd have thunk that?

Legend.

Why? Has a reason been given?

Before we had the valid reason that the Hogan stand was being rebuilt.

Lets hope that we don't get a soccer/rugbyesque start to games where the teams are lined up to meet the president and then troop past each other shaking hands.

Do they not remember how cack it was presenting on the pitch?

Padraig Nally?

A 61-year-old Co Mayo farmer has been jailed for six years for the killing of a Traveller at his farm in October last year.

Padraig Nally, from Cross in south Mayo, was tried for the murder of 42-year-old John 'Frog' Ward in the Central Criminal Court in July. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of manslaughter.

Sentencing Nally today, Mr Justice Paul Carney said it was the most difficult matter he had to deal with in more than14 years on the bench.

Nally shot Mr Ward twice and beat him 20 times with a stick.

The second and fatal shot was fired after Mr Ward had left Nally's farmyard in October 2004 and was limping down the road, in manifest retreat, Mr Justice Paul Carney said today.

Nally claimed in his defence that he believed his life was under threat and he was in the grip of fear.

In the 18 months before the shooting he said there were two break-ins at his property and he was growing increasingly paranoid and fearful.

The judge accepted that Nally was initially protecting his property against an invasion from someone that he pointed out everyone agreed was up to no good. It was events after this point that informed his sentencing.

Nally has no previous convictions and was considered a low risk of re-offending. Mr Justice Carney jailed him for six years. Mr Ward's widow, Marie, and other Ward family members have expressed disappointment at the jury verdict and the sentence.

Nally's legal team is seeking leave to appeal because they claim the trial judge usurped the jury's function when he refused to allow them to consider a full defence argument of self-defence. If this defence had succeeded Nally would have walked free.

How does the board find?
