Antrim / Re: Antrim Football Thread
January 22, 2020, 01:34:47 PM
Its the same problems every year and I've yet to hear one proper solution, the facts are we are a dual county we have dual clubs and we have dual players.

We run our leagues off based on accommodating the county teams and trying to be understanding to the dual element we have, you can't please everyone, there are no counties out there that are dual (Cork, Dublin Galway and co) that have the perfect set up, if they did we'd all use them, they use the starred formats or similar ones, we tried that in the past and the clubs were cracking up as they didn't get to use their star players.

We've tried play off's in the past too and that didn't go down well with some, there has been numerous attempts by people to keep everyone happy, its impossible. Croke give the county a timetable and we have to fit our competitions into that.. We want our county winners to have the best prep before their attempt in the Ulster club championships to its got to be timed right (unlike last year for an injury ravaged Cargin team) but that was unheard of due to the replays.

So i'd be all ears to hear of the decent solutions you have.

In fairness Antrim games could be held in a phone box for all that turns up.

Stop being a dick

Truth hurts.

Truth is that Tyrone are a single code county, who pay lip service to hurling and didn't start playing football till Mickey Harte took over

Sin bin is ten minutes regardless of delays like injuries during that period.

Forward mark rule kick must be played before the 45 and travel 20 meters and the player MUST make a hand in air sign.

He's 15 seconds to play ball, it's a clean catch Mark called,  should he not and tries to take a mark he'll be done for over carrying, players can tackle straight away for a forward mark should he want to play on. Oh and if a defender/keeper catches that forward Mark he can have it by making the sign for a mark, a raised hand.

Yeah but my understanding is that, like the existing mark, the player is allowed 4 steps or the length of time to travel 4 steps before they can be tackled ( providing he is outside the large rectangle)
It is not clear what is allowed if he cleanly catches it outside the rectangle but arrives in the rectangle within 4 steps and has not had the opportunity to raise his hand before been met by the wall of defenders stationed just inside the large rectangle
or how a player will make a clean catch inside the rectangle and manage to hold on to the ball while been tackled by multiple players and simultaneously raise his hand to claim the mark. Then somehow clear the 13 yards in front of him within 15 secs so that he can take the kick.
... expect loads of moaning and plenty of refereeing inconsistencies for a while on this one.

'large rectangle exception' is apparently now gone....

Believe it or not, the trainers who gave us the rules info on Monday got an email on the way up to the hotel to say they had a new update on the rules

He must raise his arm, if a defender is refusing him (pulling his arm) it's a free anyways then any player can take the free and from the ground should he wish. Catch clean n the box the 15 seconds starts from when he raises his hand, I'm sure if he's being manhandled it could be another free but he should be able to play ball

Thanks MR2

Just to be clear, is this one senior man's opinion on how the 10 mins should be implemented, or did he get it from some official source?

Was discussed at length last night, I'd prefer to stop the watch but not allowed, so any injuries in that period you can use your discretion as to whether they are taking the piss and play on, has to be a head injury or a dangerous one.  Player can only come on after ten minutes then a break in play, can't come on beforehand or he'll receive a yellow, a black and yellow is a red!

Vilamoura booked, countdown is on. It's great having a target again. My only problem is sorting out the dogs.

Ballyhale didn't have to work too hard to win that game, too many easy clearances from Hail Mary balls into a flooded fullback line, Borris's luck finally ran out and the fairytale win didn't come for them, Maher not as influential this time round, though he was brilliant at times, he just needed everyone else to chip in

Holy f**k! The league is over! been over since nobody put in a challenge. I'm glad the club finals are on tomorrow so I don't have to witness the 4-0 hammering with Mane scoring at anytime 5/2

Surely GAA money would be better spent on development staff on the ground and getting more people playing in the county and city?
No point having this white elephant in west belfast

So have it somewhere else?

We are getting close to the Television show The Running man!

Who'd have thought this would be seen as 'entertainment'
