Laois / Re: Laois Senior Hurling Draw

Ballinakill full value for their victory tonight over Abbeyleix. Ballinkill much stronger and more physical in the physical stakes. they had a better spread of scorers. Abbeyleix in truth were shocking. Two points from open play in the entire game. Never scored from play from between the ninth minute and the full-time whistle tells its own story.

Ballinakill will fancy themselves to qualify facing into  Ballyfin Gaels in the next round while Abbeyleix could be under huge pressure squaring up to Borris Kilcotten.

Think the Kilkenny U21's minus their senior panel players gave Laois seniors a beaten in a challenge game on Friday.

Jeez cool the jets. Had heard a while back or maybe read it in the newspaper they are set to appoint a former intercounty manager and was just curious who that was or who they ended up appointing. This is a general gaa forum where people discuss all sorts of GAA related topics?...yeah.?

Does anybody actually know who was appointed as manager of Ballinakill senior hurlers? It was previously reported that a former intercounty manager was taking over but who actually ended up in the position.

In our last three games we have conceded
20 points (to 13 men)
31 points
33 points

And it was Cheddar who was reading the whole situation wrong by playing a sweeper.

Unbelievable concession of scores for definite but just to balance the point regarding Cheddar and sweeper systems... The scoreline when Laois played Limerick last year (2016) under Cheddar was Limerick 6-29 to Laois 1-12 and that's with one sometimes quite often two sweepers in defence.

No difference really. Point is it doesn't really matter about sweepers and systems, players are simply not good enough and that's not taking from the huge effort they put in. Just not good enough full stop.

Atrocious result against a Kerry side missing a lot of first choice starters.
Lose to Offaly in next round and we are sure bet to be relegated.

You can be guaranteed Tipperary were missing as many with college commitments but your point is valid.  The days of laois playing teams like Tipp in challenge games and being competitive with them is well gone. A disaster for morale and confidence within the group.

Strong club teams and midtier Inter-County teams would be much better suited and would enable Laois to compete and getting something tangible out of the games.

Anybody got an idea of the team laois had out?

Just back from omoores park, one of the worst performance in a long time from laois...they had no shape. They were all over the place, where is all this improvement that meant to be from mick lillis..A lot of players i am afraid to say are not up to this standard, god help us when we meet armagh..One thing i want to say if i was kieran lillis i would feel agrieved that he didnt start,,he is a lot better than some of them on that team..i am afraid division 4 is beckoning ,after what i saw to night....

Agree 100%. The most inept performance. No system or plan. It was atrocious. And no disrespect to Louth but they are an average team at best.they were comprehensively outperformed by a third string Dublin side in O'Byrne cup final.
Laois are in big trouble already. Armagh and Tipperary in rounds two and three. Could easily be starring down the barrel...!!

Did Borris Kilcotten get a replacement manager for Ken Hogan yet? Any news on appointments within other clubs?

Big surprise with Ken Hogan parting ways with Borris Kilcotten. Thought Brian Young did a very good job with Rathdowney, why is he not staying?
James Carroll staying on with Ballinakill.
Heard different about Abbeyleix, unconfirmed but players wanted Mark Tyrell to remain on but he has walked I heard.
Arien Delaney back with Camross as far as the wind blows.
Harps appointment will be important is David Cuddy staying on to attempt to bring them straight back up?

Eamon Kelly announced as the laois senior hurling manager this evening at Laois county board meeting. He only stepped down from Offaly post after one year in the position.

Incorrect.  Abbeyleix/Ballypikas played Portlaoise in the final last year and Portlaoise won it out. Portlaoise and Borris/Kilcotten will be strong this year.

I watched the highlights of the county final on TG4, it really showed the skill level is in Laois hurlers. I know there is a big difference between club and county but the raw materials are there for incoming management. It highlights a couple of things regarding Cheddar's reign, 1. The players that have been on the county panel under his training have obviously improved vastly from it, 2. the downside was Cheddar focused on a damage limitation plan where this game showed Laois players might be better suited to an attacking brand of hurling, most of the scores were of serious quality for all angels and distances. Laois CB would do well to make Cheddar as player development office or some such title to help get the standard of the underage players up.

Not sure how much of last Sundays display from both teams can be attributed to Cheddar plunkett. The Laois team never played a front foot attacking brand of hurling whatsoever. In fact I recall early this year in February in the first round of the league at HOME in O'Moore Park to KERRY playing sweepers and all sort. Kerry went out and played great front foot attacking hurling and completely out hurled Laois.

There is a Kilkenny man in charge of Rathdowney and a Tipperary man over Borris Kilcotten. Maybe the display last Sunday should be attributed to the players and team managers.

Is there a big twist from the Ballyroan game against Arles Killeen from the weekend.

Ballyroan Abbey considering appeal against result of Saturday's loss to Arles/Killeen but Laois GAA say they've not received an appeal yet
