Quote from: Eire90 on Today at 02:59:37 AMwill ulster u20 go to a round robin i think only connaught and munster should be round robins really witn 2v3 in semi final.I think that should be the format for senior connaught and munster aswell

I think it's up to each province what they do. Leinster already a group format and Connacht was calling for it.

With a group format in the last 16 I don't think it will be needed for senior.

Quote from: gallsman on October 02, 2023, 01:22:13 PMWhat do United fans believe the Glazers' ownership excuses in relation to ETH's management of the team?

They have consistently splashed the cash over and over again.

Exactly. The Glazer's don't  pick the team or  set up the team formation.

I was never  convinced by ETH.  Still aren't. Yes, the  squad is dire , but  he's spend big money , mostly on big time charlie's And  injury-prone players.

If this  run of results doesn't improve  , he'll be gone  in no time
Same as most teams, hit a bad patch and keep losing you won't be around for long. Injury sitiution can't be ignored, even Liverpool had a run of poor results losing a number of games in Anfield when Klopp had to deal with injuries a few seasons ago. Man City lost to Wolves at the weekend would they have done so if the likes of Rodri,De Bruyne was available?

Squad is dire as you claim so you were hardly expecting ETH to have done better in his first season at the club? He doesn't set the transfer fees or wages players should get but his signings last season played their role in finishing 3rd in the league on 75 points winning a first trophy in six years.

Can think of a few big time charlie's he let go since arriving not sure whom he brought in would be described as that.

Quote from: Rossfan on October 01, 2023, 11:35:55 PMThose Inter County games will still be in the Inter Co window

Yes in already congested window. Be interesting to see how much coverage U20 round Robin system will get, will for example the Connacht GAA stream games like they do with the U17 championship.

Quote from: gallsman on October 02, 2023, 02:11:24 PMIt was suggested that ETH has been "dealing with the nonsense of the Glazers' ownership". I'm curious to know what United fans think exactly he's been dealing with. He's been given a fortune to spend. Joel Glazer isn't overseeing training and team selection.

Strictly on the management side of the club, putting "business people in place to make football decisions" is the biggest load of w**k. Who should be in charge? Giggs? Brucey? It's not about having "football people" in place. It's about having the right people in place, regardless of their background.
Fair enough united are spending a lot of money but they are overspending for what they have gotten and Ten Hag along with the other managers in recent years constantly get their primary targets overlooked. Ten Hag made no secret that he wanted Harry Kane and he would have been the perfect striker for United for another 3/5 years but the business men didn't want to spend 100 million on someone with no resale value at the end of his contract. Ole and Mourinho have openly talked about how they wanted to sign A B and C but got X Y and Z instead. I watched amazon prime documentary on man city. In it pep needed a new centre back. He wrote down 3 names and he got the top name on his list which was Ameryic Laporte

From top to bottom Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal are well run clubs which allows Klopp,Pep and Arteta to get the best out of their teams.

If all three was managing United last season they wouldn't have done much better than Ten Hag did in his first season. Has to deal with a lot of injuries and off the field nonsense right now but unless results turn for the better quickly he'll be shown the exit door early in a season like Ole and Jose was in previous seasons as at the end of the day it's a result business.

Splashing cash isn't much use when a huge portion of it has been wasted. Recruitment has been awful for a decade, leaving Uniteds squad with many misfits and on high wages whereby it's a struggle for any new manager to offload them.

Woodward and Matt Judge hadn't a clue what they were at their replacements going by the summer transfer business aren't much better. By the end of it had to shop around for loan deals and that's the only business they'll likely be able to do in January window.

Have noticed a few national media journalist are pushing their opinion hard that the earlier Championship and split season has been overriding success.  I'd still be in the "Too early to say" category.  I see for next year all U20 football provincial championships will be round robin formats and the Minor All Ireland to have B comp for teams that don't reach the last 8.  So a lot more inter county games in already congested window but those age groups did need more games for their development.

Zero positives to draw from that latest defeat, when a Palace side who struggled all afternoon to string three consecutive passes together was able to win and keep a clean sheet you have to wonder how damaging the defeats will be for this United team once they play the better teams.

Old Trafford at the end of his career has become a happy hunting in the Premier league for Roy Hodgson five consecutive league games without losing any of them (two draws and three wins)

Quote from: quit yo jibbajabba on September 24, 2023, 12:00:06 PMThink the song is to do with the Warrington bomb where 2 young people died?

Yes it's about the Warrington bomb attack in March 1993 where young children out shopping buying Mother's Day cards were killed by IRA bombs planted cast iron dustbins outside the local Boots,McDonalds and Argos.

A pity Dolores O'Riordan is no longer with us talented singer and song writer.

Quote"this song is our cry against man's inhumanity to man, inhumanity to child".

QuoteI found it very easy to write lyrics when I was younger because I had no inhibitions – they just came pouring out. I find as I get older it's more difficult: you develop fears and you go, 'What will people think of this?' But it's important not to think too much about what people will think, because then you'll never write!

Was a bizarre game in Munich last night. Was expecting Bayern to blitz United early on yet for the opening 28 minutes United were the better team and could easily have been in front, then from Bayern's first attack they score via Onana mistake and moments later poor defending by Dalot and leaving Gnabry unmarked in the box it's 2-0.

Hojlund goal early into the 2nd gets United back into the game only to concede soon after with a debatable penalty (similar incident already happened this season in the match against spurs with Romero yet no penalty was given) By the 70th minute played Bayern 3-1 ahead having not played overly great which said about as much on United than them.

The final quarter of the match Bayern played their best football of the match had 11 of their 19 shots on goal. Two of the post and Onana made a number of decent saves yet in their best period and United worst it would be 2-1 in scoring to United as I said a bizarre game.

It's a funny one when you get used to seeing names on forums only for them to disappear and you never see them again. Did they die? Have they just decided to stop posting and move on.? Who knows. We are all just names on a forum and no one has a clue about our real life outside of the internet.

Who were you getting use to seeing for one that just signed up on here in January or did your last account disappear?

Lar Naparka,5 Sams and most recently Farrandeelin have all died and this place is a poorer place without their knowledge, wit and humour

First home defeat in over a year in all competitions. 31 games, 27 wins and 4 draws. Brighton in the first game of last season was the last team to win a Premier league game in Old Trafford.

That's a nice stat and all that and you are a great man for the positive stats for Man United, makes it sound like yesterday was only a blip and all is good.
On the other hand Man United have lost 3 out of their first five games of the season for the first time since 1989 which probably tells a more realistic story of their current fortunes than your stat.

To put that stat into perspective further United were one win off their best home run since 2012-13 the last team managed by Ferguson and won the league in April.

The stat was a point towards why United finished in the top 4 last season with 75 points, best hope  for them now is that yesterday was a blip and go on another good run in Old Trafford as will be lucky to finish 6th without it.

Lack of reaction to the Arsenal defeat and as I said before United will be lucky to finish 6th if the home form goes to pot.

Today United were the better side for the opening 20 mins. Brighton scored from their first attack of the game and played the match on their own terms after that for a deserved win. Bayern away next won't be pretty.

That goal was coming with way Dutch started second half.

Not making yourself hard to score against when you are allowing Weghorst to score.  Could have done with Evan Ferguson tonight especially in the 1st half.

Positivity ended after the Croke Park game as we had a pretty poor June.
Next year do we say feck the League, try our damndest to win Connacht and then let the AI take care of itself?
They lost to Kildare by a magnificent sideline point in the last minute and seemed to run out of gas against Cork. They also lost by a point.
If there had been a 2 week break between the Round robin and the preliminary qf it may have been different.
I think they should focus on the league and the championship and forget about Connacht.
It was mark from the side line that won it for Kilbride could have been thrown up as Kevin Feely took longer to kick it than is meant to be allowed.

QuoteOnce the player indicates he is taking the 'Mark', the Referee shall allow up to five seconds for the player to take the kick. If the player delays longer than five seconds, the Referee shall cancel the 'Mark' and throw in the ball between a player from each side.

I don't think running out of gas was the issue against Cork, after all Roscommon drew level from 5 points down before losing by a point and the winning Cork score came from a debatable technical foul against Conor Daly.

Three of the provincial winners reached the last 4 this year and it may well have been 4 from 4 had Comer played against Armagh in the round 3 group match.
