Quote from: Captain Obvious on January 28, 2025, 01:50:56 PMWhere is the sense in getting two points for a long range free and only one point for a 45?

Frees should at least have to be taken from where they are awarded.  Moving the ball back from a 1 point location to a 2 pointer does not seem right to me.  I get the 2 points for a long range shot from play, it rewards skill ... less so from a dead ball free.

Burns interview aside, how poor an effort was that from RTE in an attempt to celebrate the biggest and most impactful sporting organisation on the island.  Poor offering all round, 2 Johnnies got away with the opening number, but then to bring them out for an interview was an interview too far.  Seamus Darby trotted out as a prop and nothing more, cringeworthy Late Late Show awards, the Marty segment was a total flop from start to finish.  In the week before the All Ireland Scor Finals, surely a piece of Scor activity could have been covered (or did I fall asleep before it came on which is possible).

In summary, a poor offering from RTE, but we shouldn't be surprised at this stage.

I think if JB had been taking good advice from anyone, he would have been told to stay clear of intervening in the Naas appointment.  By doing so, he has set a precedent for himself that is going to be difficult to stop coming up time and again.  The GAA is a reflection of Irish society, all of it, the good and the bad.  By taking a stand on one issue, leaves you open to not taking a stand on every issue.  I'm sure there are many localised issues in clubs across the country, he can't police them all.

Trump will most likely spend most of the next 4 years on the golf course, untouchable now, going down in history as possibly the greatest comeback since Lazarus.  I expect to see Donald Jnr being profiled over the next 4 years as his Dad's successor, just like the Paisleys, it won't end well.

UFO's, or UAP's as they are currently known, seem to be going more mainstream than before ... any smoke without fire?  Could US really be in possession of non-human intelligence tech and biologics ... if so, you'd have to wonder why the need to spend billions on the search for microbial life on Mars etc.

Quote from: Harold Disgracey on September 03, 2024, 04:52:47 PMThere's a fake Sam Maguire trophy doing the rounds! Statement on the Armagh GAA Facebook page.

SAM MAGUIRE - IMPORTANT NOTICE

Armagh GAA have been made aware of a counterfeit Sam Maguire trophy being taken around a number of pubs, event venues and schools in exchange for substantial amounts of money.

Armagh GAA have clearly established guidelines and methods for requesting the use/appearance of the Sam Maguire and will NEVER charge for this.

#BeAware

Anyone aware of what these guidelines and methods are?  Sam seems to be popping up everywhere and anywhere with little advance notice.

Quote from: ONeill on August 25, 2024, 11:39:20 PMFor me it was the 05 semi final. Not because of the result. It was the magnitude of the occasion. Two Ulster warrior sides at the time, up there with the best to come out of the province.

The football was good too. The subplots were hard to keep up with. McGeeney was taken off early. McDonnell's goal and him wrecked with a chest infection. O'Neill hitting the penalty in the same spot for the 3rd time against Hearty. McGeeney's point before half time.

But what struck me was the atmosphere. The air was wavy with tension and excitement.

Although it was a semi, it was the 2005 final in everything but name, everyone present knew it and the occasion met expectations ... apart from the result.

Quote from: ardtole on August 19, 2024, 05:22:46 PMHow the hell can goal nets be offensive. Considering some towns and villages throughout the north are plastered in red, white and blue and very little said about it.

If a Soccer or Rugby pitch had a Union Jack on it's nets (in Ireland) would it bother you? You'd look with distain? I would!

To be honest, I wouldn't give a damn!  If you want to be offended, you'll be offended, personally, I'd laugh at it and move on.

I always remember Doug Beattie's performance on the Nolan show when the St. Paul's GAA club in Lurgan had the audacity to install goal netting in their club colours i.e. green, white and gold (just like Offaly) ... Doug cited it as sectarian and provocative ... a leopard doesn't change its spots, bigotry was never far from the service with Mr. Beattie.

I'd say if we knew the full extent as to how the west is compromised when it comes to Israel, it would be frightening beyond belief.  Why every country appears to be at the behest of Israel is baffling ... why there is no widespread expulsion of Israeli ambassadors is incredulous.

Quote from: bennydorano on August 07, 2024, 06:58:48 PMGot round to watching the Irish Independent pod, can't say I agree that Dick Clerkin was overly disrespectful  to Armagh at all. Dunno that Conor Mckeon boy at all tho.
Edit: Clerkin talked about Conaty like he was a total soccer head new to football, showing his thin surface knowledge. Conaty played on a St Pats Armagh team that was beat by a point or 2 in a MacRory semi. Gaa was always there.

When I watched BBCNI's coverage of the AIF after Armagh had won, I thought Michael Murphy looked absolutely gutted at one stage, no doubt he was thinking what a missed opportunity.

Yes, that was clear for all to see, he had a look of devastation on his face.  However, I realise it's hypothesis and conjecture at this stage, but I don't think the pick of Galway and Donegal were going to beat Armagh in this year's All Ireland Final.
