Michael Bloomfield, the chief executive of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, has been made an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire).

A patient has waited 19 hours in the back of an ambulance outside a hospital's emergency department, the medical director of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) has said.

These 2 things are being reported on BBC NI's website, today. How, exactly, do you get an award for operating a complete & utter shambles, that's endangering people??

There's one particular brand, Chateau Musar, that James Nicholson of Crossgar currently keeps. I remember getting a bottle of it, years ago, from an off licence on the Antrim Road in Belfast, that was associated with Direct Wine Shipments. That was definitely corked, so I haven't tried the Lebanese stuff since.

"pubs/restaurants pricing out punters
was out for lunch in dublin last friday
bottle of basic albarino €52
same bottle in off licence €15"

Shed Bistro on the Ormeau Road in Belfast is charging an utter rip-off £13 for a glass of Albariño.
You could easily sit at home with an entire bottle of the stuff for that princely sum.

Quote from: tintin25 on December 05, 2024, 09:21:14 PMRecommendations needed for a decent red wine priced around £20 - I'm being generous for my Secret Santa gift this year  ;D

I have a couple of bottles of Amarone della Valpolicella in, from Tesco. It's normally £20 a bottle, but even better value @ the 25% off sales. The problem is that it's a mere 15.5%.

I think the in laws have touched for a few bigger prizes but currently for a 6 month period I'm sitting at 8% winnings for the investment.. Which is better than the saving account.

Do you keep the same numbers or have you cashed out and put back in for a different set?
[/quote]

I can recall that i cashed some in, to fund a trip to Australia, back in 2019; when I topped them back up again, I got a new block with different numbers. It's 'supposed' to be completely random, so I'm not sure if it's more favourable to have them all in 1 large block, or to have different blocks.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on October 05, 2023, 02:54:58 PMThe wife was given a fair number of premium government bonds recently, I remember Martin Lewis saying one time that they  should always keep their value and the odd win you get, will cover what you would lose by putting it into a savings type thing..

Anyone any history of using them or lucky enough to get a win? Only know of a couple of people that have and generally its £25 or a couple of hundred.

I generally get a couple of hundred quid in prizes every month, which comes in handy. But, I touched for a £100,000 win on them, in June 2023. So the initial investment definitely paid off.

With most people stuck at home and sport suit down there is SFA happening anywhere. There is very little news in the newspapers either.
I still buy 2 papers a day but it is so obvious how far old media is behind social media in such a fast moving situation, wasting my money tbh. Irish News is on thin ice atm!

Good time for one of them ould 'MLA expenses scandal' stories that they regularly trot out, when there's no news to report on. FOI legislation was specifically enacted to enable journalists to put in 100s of stupid questions to organisations, for free.

I think they, the shops, should be employing security guards and if you don't adhere to social distancing you should be turfed out of the shop.

Agree 100%.
A chap about 23 or so stood in the queue in Sainsbury's on Saturday breathing down my neck. When I asked him to step back a bit from my space he started laughing and asked was I serious.

Should have grabbed him by the throat and forced him back.
I did lose my temper a bit, which is unlike me, and told him he'd get a dig in the jaw if he didn't get out of my space. Which probably wasn't the ideal response  :-\

I think, in the circumstances, that was mild.  This whole situation is certainly showing us that a large section of society is currently populated by completely brain dead wankers.

Well, the Orange Order aren't for marching, so they're out of step with the DUP.
It's funny listening to Snarlene saying she will be guided by science, when Pootsy says the Earth was created around 4,000 BC.

There was a case mentioned on the ITV News earlier of a man who was hospitalised on 3 March & only died last Friday, on the 13th. What exactly is, or has been, going on? Plus, if it started in China in December, when precisely did the powers that be cop on that it was going to spiral out of control rapidly & why haven't adequate preventitive measures been put in place, long before now? It looks like all these steps that  are now coming in are being put in place way too late.

Any recommendations for shows to watch on Netflix/other....old or new.....

I have seen absolutely nothing in recent years and that includes breaking bad, game of thrones, any BBC1 drama's etc etc..

What should I watch??

SF

If you haven't already watched it, start with Sopranos

Good call. Was absolutely brilliant nearly every week it was on.

Wife was due to fly to the canarys with her friends today but decided it was best not to. Not all the friends agreed and some have went on ahead. Jet2 cancelled all their flights but they had a package that included easyJet flights. They go ahead. Has to take the financial hit

Flew back from Salzburg with Jet2.com this morning.  Got a text from them yesterday, saying everything would be going on time. All trains from Austria into Italy were suspended earlier in the week but, other than that, no real difficulties in travelling round Austria all week & into Munich yesterday.
