GAA Discussion / Re: Donal O Neill Quits GPA

In fairness to Donal his athletic record was pretty good- I think he competed internationally at high jump, and was a very good footballer. I'm also pretty sure that he worked for one of the large international sports marketing companies for a long time.

well except that the coaches signal the plays in every time, patriots learn their signals and know what plays are coming next, its cheating...

Just on the whole clock thing, hour hasn't changed in the US yet. And that starts to get annoying very quickly

the issue with pitchers is rest, most require 4 days (or usually 5) before they can go in the rotation again. With schilling and matsuzaka having thrown in that time it would be risking their arm to let them throw. The boys that come in after lester are middle relievers and are specialists, they throw in many cases only a few pitches to get out a specific type of batter. At this stage in the game its very much like a chess match. Pitchers and batters are chosen by the manager for specific match ups given the situation the game is in.

Was watching the game last night, favre threw for 2TDs both the same play one to either side and both on the first play of the drive. By the way this was after denver managed to sneak a field goal with 6 seconds left to get into OT. I thought denver should have been more aware that favre would try it again, but no, all the same some throw, inch perfect

the problem they have with the pats & colts is that a lot of the teams have contracts with their stadia that mean that they MUST play their 8 home games at that stadium. If not they end up homeless. The NFL has announced that it intends that every team will play a minimum of 1 game outside the US in the next 3 years.

Fishy my ass. His agent Boras practically runs the league. He has a huge amount of players on his roster, but this was a very calculated move to get the press on the A-Rod band wagon this morning, given the poor display from the Rockies.

Quotecan pats be stopped?
definitely, they can be caught on a bad day, brady can get injured, its been a bad year for QBs but the only team realistically capable of beating them in a fair game is the Colts next week. Its the first time ever that two teams that are a minimum of 7-0 are meeting up.
Going to be a cracker, I have my sofa booked for the game. It'll be interesting to see just how good the colts pass defense is.

Not a good day to be a New York Baseball fan, congrats *through gritted teeth* to the Red Sox, they were the best team of the year  comfortably, and now God help us all, they will be one of the 29 teams bidding for A-rod...

Do you think it has anything to do with Irish management not knowing how to crack the US market, and trying it arseways?

Who has done it successfully other than U2?

I do believe the marketing was an issue, but I do think there was an element of too much too young. Obviously when you are 21 you know everything and they exploded on their first album. Its almost a pity they didnt have a few years grinding it out before they made it big.
And to 5times point, their new stuff is IMHO better than a lot of the old stuff. Blue for example is one of the best songs I've heard in years
