For the absolute life of me, I'll never understand why anyone would want to play in front of 5-10k people in Croke Park. The atmosphere is shit at these games. Absolute shit.

Tell me you've never played gaelic football without telling me........

Just had a look on Wikipedia it was the nineties, we won just 8 games in 10 yrs. I remember it well we were garbage. We couldn't beat France or Scotland would have an occasional win over England and then beat Wales in Cardiff but Lose to them in Dublin. Changed times.

I think he's poor but as we all know Júrgen doesn't do bad transfers!

Don't rate him at all & he was woeful when he came on against United

It's a classic case of someone having one good international tournament and everyone thinking he's the next Messi.
See James Rodriguez World cup 2014.

Quote from: SaffronSports on March 16, 2024, 12:16:48 PMGood luck to the St Killian's hurlers today. Just leaving Castlebellingham now. Feels like half the Glens are here.
Coming home as All Ireland B Champions will feel good for those lads and management.

Was a very slick performance, some super hurlers on that team.

Quote from: lurganblue on Today at 10:59:14 AMI think McGeeney has been searching for that level of player to use as an impact sub late in games but as you say, we dont really have the luxury to leave a higher level player on the bench.  He tried it with Stefan quite a bit.  Most recently in the Ulster Final. Then he inevitably gets the loud cries of why did this player not start if they play so well...

I just don't think many teams out there have that luxury - only two and arguably one have. To have a team not starting Jack McCaffrey for example is ludicrous. No one else could do that.

Derry played 2 years in Division 3, actually Down beating them in Newry one night keep them there. But they improved vastly there after.

Doing away with finals only served to suit the big 6-8 teams. To hell with the rest of them seems the opinion. There 20plus teams not make a top 8 quarter final in the championship. Hell 16 teams can't even play in the proper championship. Keep going the way we are, and it just end up like the Hurling championship.

Quote from: Armamike on March 18, 2024, 11:28:29 AMBlew that one.  Man u were so poor that second half it seemed to lull Liverpool into a false sense of security.Age old lesson of football, when you have a team on the ropes, finish them.  Hopefully it will sharpen minds for the league game.

They both had 11 shots on target. United missed prob better chances than Liverpool. 2 from McTominay and 2 from Rashford also hojlund should've got on the end of a bruno cross. 2 deflected goals for Liverpool.

Since when did we all start counting clear offsides as chances?

Bruno should been shown a second yellow for the lunge on szoboszlai. Game over if the ref had any balls.

Clear offside for united's second not flagged by linesman.

Liverpool did throw it away but united rode their luck big time.

Quote from: G@@ on March 17, 2024, 11:12:17 AMYeah, it's a bit messy bringing in head-to-head results for this. One question though, how did we get Portlaoise as the semi-final venue? Surely we should have to travel to Down considering they played us in Portlaoise already, or failing that a neutral venue for the Semi?

I suppose it's a reward for finishing second, just like Carlow's home venue for the final is their reward for finishing top.

While I understand the logic behind these home knockout games and everyone knows the rules before a ball is thrown in, but do any of you think these rules would ever apply to the Div1 teams?

As for Saturday the Down lads won't fear Laois based on their last meeting where we were still in the game with 10 minutes to go.

Eoghan Sands may be a big loss due to his straight red card, but I'd expect Down to appeal that decision this week, but we'll know more later this week...

A few other injuries to clear up this week could mean Down playing from a full hand, which they didn't have in the first meeting..

Quote from: seafoid on March 16, 2024, 01:59:23 PMVery good first half from Galway. Backs putting Limerick under pressure, Forwards rotating and good intensity

If Galway at home to a 14 man Limerick in a league game aren't able to win then you'd have to wonder what chance have they got of beating them in a knock out championship game this summer?
If Galway were beaten out the gate last year yesterday was an improvement. Intensity and goals may beat Limerick this year. Or may not. Lets see

Adam English would start on every other team in the Liam McCarthy cup barring Limerick, but I think we'll see more of him this year.

Kiely might struggle to find his best 15, but he does need fresh blood in there at both ends of the park.

Galway, Clare, Cork, Tipp, Kilkenny would need to catch Limerick on an off day so better hold off on that until the semi-final.
