Horrendous weather and horrendous performance from us, Pat has an awful lot of work to do....

Couldn't ye just pretend the IT team was the county team? Coen is back in the fold now Walsh is gone, right?

We coped well enough with D3 attacks last year - second lowest overall in points conceded, one less than the Farneys - to be promoted if we had a cutting edge.

Attacking play is the problem, we have talented players but apart from 2011 they never have synced up correctly. Not getting stuffed on the 45 of the opposition in D3 is going to be what defines our year. That's an epidemic in D3 football and the team that can break fast and with some semblance of a game-plan will almost surely win the given match. We allow teams to set their defences far too easily.

Evans has a good defensive head on his shoulders and he's already shown that last year. If the play moving forward improves this year we'll be going somewhere. We have players that should be able to get more than 10-13 points a game in D3 and what we scored today should be what we're targeting as an average for the league.

Don't let stats fool you, Antrim couldn't kick snow off a rope last year,Cavan played a 2nd string side against us & the Monaghan game was more like rugby than GAA. We gave away easy scores against Meath,Fermanagh,Wicklow that lost us league points and that type of defensive play won't be good enough for D2 level if we ever reach that level again.

A fit Donie Shine should improve our scoring average this year.

And a fit Donie Smith too. Nevermind Senan K.

We have good players but it's at the back we made some progress in the last year, it's not the area of most concern.

It's time some progress up front.

Our forward line needs time to gel, keeping the scores down will give us a better chance of wining games. Can you see us holding Wexford,Longford & full strength Cavan to low scores this year? i have my doubts.

Longford aren't as good as the other two of those, in all honesty. If we can shut Tyrone down we shouldn't be looking at Cavan or Wexford as fearsome propositions. Our best performers last year were all backs - Carty, Conor Daly, Niall Daly, Collins - so I wouldn't be pointing to the backs as the problem. They need to continue to make progress, but there are question marks over whether our forwards have made progress as a unit in the last year.

Away to Longford and home to Wexford in the first two weeks will define how much or how little help we'll need to be promoted.

Not much difference between them i'd say & the Larries have Brian Kavanagh back plus some good underage forwards that are expected to make impact. The Tyrone game was almost a carbon copy of the Monaghan league game & its unlikely we'll be that cautious in the opening league games.

Individually some of our defenders have played well but collectively plenty more progress still needs to be done.

That's not how we play football in the beautiful west, Dinny. You'll need to sort his algorithms out because he's still within warranty.

Lookit lads, no matter which way we spin it with late manager appointment and what have you, Sligo were ugly yesterday, really poor. It's worrying

The vibes I'm getting are very positive. The day I start worrying about the FBD League will indeed be a very sad day. Relax!

Donie was v good yesterday and hopefully it's a sign that the 09/10 Donie is back.
Mixed bag yesterday - a lot of lads didn't break sweat while the new lads didn't overly impress but Nally and Stack could make the grade and should get a few NFL outings. C.Murtagh took his points well but didn't do a lot more but should also be staying a while. Defensively we were poor and loose and most of our defenders seem to only want to attack. We also gave away a silly goal and should really have put the game to bed when we went 5 or 6 up midway through the 1st half.
Also too much short stuff as rugby league is still thriving with us. :-[
Not able to beat a middlin enough College team should be a concern but it is only the FBD in January.
However improvement needed if we're to realise Syfín's over optimistic expectations. :o
Him and Evans are the only 2 people getting all excited about how good we were.
Davy's given us a dream to cling to
We're going to bring home the SAM
