There has been lots of threads on Stag parties but its an ever changing beast with places falling out of fashion, exchange rates etc etc. For a group of lads from Armagh/Dungannon area heading somewhere for a weekend probably either May bank holiday or July 12th weekend, what are the best destinations. Important criteria is as follows
not to get raped on price of drink accommodation, or raped at all i suppose. Some want to go abroad some want to go south some want to go over the water.
Any suggestions or anyone booked anywhere for the year ahead?
Abroad - Prague
South - Kilkenny/Galway
UK - Liverpool/Newcastle
Avoid Kilkenny-Westport is good spot-more relaxed than Kilkenny. I went to kilkenny for mine was like being in Dublin bouncers everywhere and it was frankly disappointing. My own stag do was the worst I have been on-is it like that for all stags?
Liverpoool is best. Cheap drink, cheap hotels, a match if you are fans and endless different clubs and pubs.
Abroad - Prague,Amsterdam,Riga,Bratislava,Vilinus all top places
UK - Nottingham,Newcastle
Ireland - Kilkenny

Don't go south then! You'll get cleaned out with the rate the way it is at the minute.
Abroad is probably still eurozone so would get cheap flights to either Edinburgh, Newcastle or Liverpool.

The thing with Kilkenny is you have to know where to go and where to avoid,Most of the non-locals who are only in the city for the weekend tend to all go to the same places,thus the bouncers are more evident.
Kilkenny city is only 12miles from my home town so I was in Kilkenny almost every weekend since I was old enough to drink,There are some great pubs and late bars in Kilkenny that aren't full of stags and hens etc..
If you have been to Newcastle before i would give it a miss for a stag

Liverpool or Bristol would be the best spots across the water IMHO
I found Edinburgh to be fantastic. Not been to Newcastle, but I'm told it's a good stag town.
I've been to two Stag Do's in Newcastle and they were both brilliant. It's my favourite spot out of about 10 stags
had to beat galway for a stag...
liverppol is class spot if you want to advoid the euro.

newcastle, Liverpool or Madchester are all good spots and not to expensive...

Best Stag I was ever at was in Liverpool. Hotels ,beer, taxis ,food etc very cheap. Lapdances (it you are so inclined) were £5 and this was before the Euro parity. People there were very friendly and we caught 2 matches there ....LFC on the Saturday and MCFC by train on the Sunday before the late Ryanair Sunday flight home. Stick with the bottled beer though.
Galway imo has its head up its own hole and is to be avoided at all costs. Massively overrated. Sadly you don't even hear Irish being spoken on the streets anymore.

Bristol is a great shout, especially if there is racing at Chepstow on the weekend concerned.
Last two i have been two were in liverpool and newcastle, both good but newcastle was the better of the two cities.
Prague for sure...........their currency is the koruna(sp?) so the euro rate is not a worry.....there for a stag a couple of years ago and if you drink in the right spots it was 50p a pint........food was also cheap at about £5 for some nice grub. We organised atrip out into the country and got shooting with an AK47, Glock handgun and Pump Action Shotgun.........excellent craic and something you wouldn't get doing at home needless to say.
Was in Edinburgh over the summer on a stag and it was excellent also.
been to amsterdam before,lets just say it was excellent,heard very good reports on prague in that was similiar to if not better than the 'dam and most definitely cheaper.newcastle and liverpool two great cities in england too.

You're obviously not listening hard enough.
I still hear Irish spoken on the streets of Galway regularly (or at least in shops and some pubs) but there are so many different groups of nationalities living in the city now that you are just as likely to hear Polish, Nigerian, Spanish or French.
Having said that as a native speaker maybe my ear is just more attuned to picking it up.
Was in newcastle over xmas for a few days...£3 a triple vodka and spray mixer.....hard to beat that!

Prague prob the best stag i was ever on, out of about 12 r so. Good thing about heading further afield is that only the people who are really good mates will go so you don't have to waste time on work pals and 2nd cousins you can't really be arsed with. been in budapest as well and crews of about 15 each time which is just about right cuz bigger groups always splinter anyway.

Liverpool is great for a rip..Have been over about 5 times in the last 2 yrs..Always seem to end up in O'Neills even though i always say i'm never going back. The walkabout in Concert Square is a good spot for women..About 3 women for every fella...

Was at a stag in Cardiff - very disappointing. Real ugly atmosphere around the place when we were there, lads staring you out of it just waiting for an excuse to get into a boxing match.

Jeez, I loved Cardiff. Go for the rugby week end (week end after St Paddys) & you'll experience nothing like it!!! One of the best cities I was ever in. I thought the people were very firendly & we had a scrum in the middle of one of the bars. Sing songs all night, mostly aimed at the English!! :P
I've heard the soccer crowds are real @rseholes though - maybe you got caught up in that?

Galwaybayboy, imo you are in living in cloud cuckooland if you think that Irish is still widely spoken in Galway city . Have visited Galway at least twice a year (bar a stint in Oz) since the 70s and imo the use of Irish in the city has all but finished since the late 1980s when you heard the use of Irish by muintir Chonamara everywhere. My Irish is a bit stale but I still reckon after 14 years at Gaelscoileanna that I can recognize the language.
I humbly apologize for giving my opinion on Galway City......... obviously another Irish Sacred Cow immune to criticism.
Newcastle is the spot. you'll not go far wrong with it. The people are good craic as well

Newcastle was great craic though I definitely prefer Liverpool, great size of a city. Would love to book the annual January student trip to it, but I'm not a student anymore and can't take the time off work :(
Im rambling, in short - Liverpool.
Bristol would be my faourite stag night spot altough in sating that Newcastle and Liverpool were good too
Went to Bristol for mine and thought it was a great town. We went to Cheltenham racing on the Saturday - only 30 mins by train.
Newcastle was great when I went a few years ago. Great size of a place, locals were friendly, bars were good and varied. Although I was there again in August and I've a feeling I've got too old for that town (I'm an old 31).
I wasn't overly impressed with Liverpool, but I'm awate this makes me the exception. Everyone I know raves about it. Personally I don't like getting accosted by tramps selling knocked-off merchandise every time I sit down for a pint.

Maybe we were unlucky in Newcastle but different members of our group were hounded by squaddies on 3 or 4 ocassions, put me off a bit tbh. Had a great time but I wouldn't be rushing back.
Edinburgh is the place to go. Been to 2 or 3 stags there and went for a few city breaks with the missus. Never disappoints.

Have to agree Pat....I'm over there a couple or three times a year cos the Bro in Law lives there and its a great spot for session......Friday/Sat night around Matthew St, Bold St and Concert Square would give an oul lad like me a heart attack. I've seen more clothes worn on the beach in Crete.
Havent been in quite a while but I remember the Razz was a great spot. An absolute hole decor wise and smelly as fcuk with sticky carpet....but fabulous music, fine lookin women and cheap drink....
Someone mentioned Carlingford....now that would be my type of stag......3 or 4 great pubs....just a great session town.

We were an old enough crew and while people had a few onboard we were good mannered. Everyone we came across in Dundalk acted like we were a stag so were nothing but trouble. I take no pleasure in saying this about Dubdalk since my father is from there. Carlingford on the 2nd night was the complete opposite and was might craic.

Well it still is widely spoken in relation to other Irish cities but that doesn't mean that the girl behind the bar or the security guard will have any Irish. They probably won't. I'm not sure what you were expecting to be honest. Big groups of Gaelgoirs walking down Shop Street wearing Aran sweaters? It just doesn't work like that. It might only be two old ones in a shop or two fella's at the counter of a pub. Depending where you go you could hear Irish every day in Galway city but you won't hear it at the counter of Boots or Easons. At least not usually. You have to know where to go.
Certainly over the Christmas period I heard Irish being spoken on the streets most days as they were obviously in from the Gaeltacht doing their shopping but you have to remember the population of the entire Galway Gaeltacht is only 40,000 people and only a couple thousand of those may be in Galway city any given day and they can easily become lost in the city.
Back in the 1970's the population of Galway city was far smaller with no foreigners around. Irish was much more noticeable on the streets. It's been the fastest growing city in Ireland though for pretty much the entire last 20 years and the growth in population hasn't come from the Gaeltacht but from immigrants both foreign and domestic and there isn't too many Irish speakers amongst that lot.
Again not saying you will be served in a shop or pub through Irish but I still hear it on the streets fairly regularly albeit it might only be a family or two people talking and I don't even hang out in Irish speaking circles. If I made a bigger effort to I would probably hear even more.

Oh right, yes Dundalk it the worst spot for bouncers 'exerting' their power and refusing entry. I thought you meant rows, but if you go to Dindalk with a northern accent expect to be stopped.

Can t remember what you call him but I remember a series on the telly about a guy trying to make his way around Ireland without speaking English. I seem to remember he got a positive response as Gaeilge in every shop he went into in Galway city.

The River Court hotel is right in the middle of the city,I never stayed there but it is a nice Hotel,plus I'd say there are great deals nowadays with hotels

Yeah there's one on Parliament street,I have never been in that one as I'm too well known in Kilkenny,you wouldn't know who be walking past as you came of the club..(pardon the pun ;))

Syd's.... a great pub to start the night off in,it is a quiet pub as in there is no loud music banging out but it has the best pint of Guinness in Kilkenny IMHO

I'd second that, some pubs fine - McHughs if I recall right. Velvet nightclub is great spot though and gets crowd in early on Saturday night.
See you there Tommy - heading for a hen party but think we're for Toffs. Velvet Rooms is good but don't allow hens or stags if you have all the gear on (have been there for two previous hen parties). If you see Little Bo Peep and about fifteen sheep on the streets, that's us.
To make matters worse, I'm off to Puerto Banus for another hen party tomorrow, and coming home a day earlier than everyone else for the Sligo do.

Lads I'm in the middle of picking a destination for my stag next year, have many of you been to prague? Any good or bad experiences?

Last report I heard was it was swarming with English tossers who have basically ruined it for anyone wanting to go there for anything other than a stag. As you are going on a stag it should be fine.

Well you do have a big world out there to choose from. But saying as you've never been to Letterkenny on a stag (I find this hard to believe) what are you waiting for!
I personally would avoid "stag" cities like the plague due to the marauding groups of English in "hilarious" outfits! Edinburgh was a good spot.
Edinburgh mightn't be a bad choice actually. Flights wouldn't be too expensive either

What was Amsterdam like for a stag party? Heading there on one in a few weeks, 20 going I think. Can't imagine there'd be many hen parties about?

Stags do's like a lot of things recently have got out of hand and went completly overboard. The novelty of heading away for a weekend to somewhere no one has been before has worn off.

Had mine there too although that was 7 years ago so things have obviously moved on! Great spot though. Compact wee city with a good selection of bars and clubs and as you say flights are cheap enough. We stayed in a hostel but these days there seem to be plenty of cheap hotels about.

Was there 3 years ago f**king brilliant!! Pints at 50p in the beer halls, couldn't beat it with a big stick. If you drink in the right spots, drink is very cheap. There's a trip out to the country for shooting with AK-47s, Glock handguns, and a pump action shotgun. Absolutely first class and kept us out of the pub on the Saturday until late afternoon. Thoroughly recommend it.

Hard to look past Vilinius, about half the price of Riga and loads of decent pubs and clubs. Loads of other 'activities' to keep a stag party happy as well!

El you get them City lads off to Hamburg (Ryanair out of Dublin) for your stag, some spot. If i know you guys then you'll never be away from the sleaze but there is actually good sightseeing (and I'm not talking about the strip clubs ;))
Some of the Clans ones went to Vegas for their stag (that's just a bit to far) and had a ball...what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas :D
I was at a Stag Do in Edinburgh also. Great place.

It's good craic for a stag... it's fairly expensive now though!
We went to Benidorm on a Stag in April or May.
There was about 27 of us. Great craic, great night life, you can drink until 6am if you like.
I would definitely recommend it.
the training session the day we got back was hell though.

6 years of January in Newcastle, trust me it's not warm. In fact you might be lucky and be able to ski there ;D

Right have to plan 2 stags this year. More or less already got one sorted for the Isle of Man but the other is proving a fecker.
Groom wants to go somewhere in eng, sco or wales but not the usual places. Was looking at Newquay but its a fecker to get to from here and costs a fortune.
Edinburgh is a deadly spot but whats it like for actvities, would like to do something on the sat morning, just to stay out of the pubs for a couple of hours.
Any help would be greatly appreciated?

Been on 2 stags in Edinburgh. The first one we went to a Magners League game that Connacht were over for. The second one we went karting. Wasn't far from the city. Personally prefer no activities. They get in the way of al all day session!

I may well have been to the same Karting venue. Great days craic and as the taxi took about 25 minutes, there's nothing like an early morning in Edinburgh to clear your head from the night before.

One of the best stags I was on was in Lemington Spa outside Birmingham but the stag was originally from there and we had a guide as such. Was some craic though and have been back since and it was good craic, lovely spot actually, very well kept and lively.
Newcastle is a mighty spot and you could take in a championship game or go to a rugby premiership game. Horse racing also an option.

Yeah been on a stag to Newcastle too. It's a great city for a session. There's an excellent karting track about 45 mins from the city. Like Bingobus said there's a few race courses in that general area - Newcastle and Hexham. Think there's another around there too. If the stag is in the summer there's an Irish club beside St. James's that will show the championship games.

ffs forget about the isle of man bars stop at 12 or so not too many nite clubs and worst still hard to find a bar open before 12 very strick try again
Im heading to Krakow in March on my own, anyone been there before?? Whats it like, I heard its great for a stag, and there are only 8 of us going so isnt too big a crowd to have trouble getting in places hopefully.

Was there a few years ago though not on a stag. Beautiful city, great pubs and clubs, cheap accomodation and booze. There was about 16 of us and no hassle getting in anywhere. Auschwitz and the salt mines are worth a visit although maybe not on a stag weekend!
And some of the hottest chicks you'll find anywhere!!

No, its not that far out. Organise a local bus hire firm to lift you's out and back. Also think they run a courtesy bus back into city centre after it. Its about 15mins in taxi/bus from city as far as i can remember.

No, its not that far out. Organise a local bus hire firm to lift you's out and back. Also think they run a courtesy bus back into city centre after it. Its about 15mins in taxi/bus from city as far as i can remember.
You could get the Metro out too, it's only out in Gosforth and would be a hell of alot quicker than trying to get back through the traffic.

Heading to Edinburgh at the end of April for my stag. Has anyone any tips?
I'm torn at the minute over what to do during the first day. Our flights leave at 7am and we'll not be able to check in to the hotel until 3pm. This leaves a large gap which will need to be filled by some sort of activity. The choice is to either arrange for something along the lines of paintballing, go kartin etc or just go to a pub and get loaded.
Any ideas?

Go karting - did it recently in Edinburgh and its a great wee track - about half an hour outside Edinburgh but a top track and class crack. Keeps you off the sauce for a few hours anyway

I'm organising one for Edinburgh in June. Have you looked at accom and prices? Was on a site called gobananas who offer 2 nights accom, plus entry to club on 1st night and to a lap dancing yoke on the 2nd night for 49 quid. Hate to give feckers like these my money but that sounds like a good deal.
Like the look of that activity, how much is it?

Yeah i only want a maximum of 10 to Vegas and then have a stag somewhere local at home. I was there in November with the fiance and it totally blew me away so i can imagine what it would be like with all my mates there.
He had a foreign stag do to Vegas for his close mates that could afford it which was really an excuse for a lads holiday then a local one in Ireland for the 20+ mates. Don't see an issue with it at all.
Have a stag in berlin to organise. Anyone been and any tips where to stay or go?

Generator Hostel is a great spot! About a 1000 ppl in it, nice place, big bar ppol tables etc, crawling with Yank women during the summer. If you're there in the summer its full of inter-railers so there's loads of organised pub crawls- it'd be worth tying in with one in the evening after being on the sauce during the day, plenty of sleazing opportunities anyway

Is it the Saturday or Sunday night ?
Best two bets are the Canal Court Or Bellinis - both are located beside eachother
Canal Court would get a great crowd in the downstairs bar and then around 11.30pm/12am everybody heads up to the Millers Suite - over 23's
Its around 10 pounds to get in - basically a band will play until 1am then a wee disco afterwards
Plenty of women here - especially before 11.30pm - before the busloads of men arrive ...
Bellinis have a cover charge after 10pm or 10.30pm - they will have a live band and disco on also
Best advice re Bellinis is to go in early and get a seat
Both Canal Court and Bellinis get decent crowds
There's also the Bank Bar/Nightclub or The Relic Nightclub - these are for the 18-20 year old bracket

Seems to be a lot of Stag Dos and Hen Dos heading to Carlingford these days. What's the attraction?
Was there last wkend for one. Great wee town with lots of outdoor activities if u so wish and plenty of quaint wee pubs for daytime drinking and town centre v compact so all the hens and stags cant fail to avoid each other at night.
OHares is a great spot there.
Great spot for a stag
Been to Carlingford twice for a stag, and as Santino and Doogie have said, great spot. We stayed in some sorta adventure centre digs, bunk beds, 4 til a room, was 100%. No hassle from the bouncers and a real lively wee town.
If I was given the option of heading to Carling ford or Newry for a Stag do I'd head to Carlingford every time. There are plenty of adventure avtivities you can do, great bars and lots of other similar groups which is what you want! As previous posters have said though if you are for Newry Canal court or Belini's are the spots. Canal court is really a big wedding where everyone is invited. Good craic though!

If you want to go chasing women wearing next to nothing (the women that is ;)) while drinking shite beer then the Canal Court/Bellinis it is then.
If you want to climb a mountain and then have a nice meal and then sit around having a laugh and talking shite for hours while drinking quality porter then Carlingford is your only man....

Craic was good though and when we got back to the hotel after the local bar closed we were served for as long as we wanted to continue drinking. I'm sure you could do sea angling during the day or something.

I've never been to Inishmore, it's one of the Aran Islands isn't it?? I'd imagine it has more pubs than Inishbofin. I think Inishbofin has only 2 or maybe 3.

Was in Bristol 5 years ago for my own stag and it was a great spot. There were two main areas, a dockland/marina type with lots of bars and outside areas being the better one. The ultimate stag friendly spot was a bar called the Bierkeller. They ask you for a deposit on the way in which you get back if you don't start a ruck, and after that it's crammed full of hens and stags, steins of beer, dancing on tables, and people getting up on the stage with the band to make c***ts of themselves. Would recommend it for a pre-nightclub couple of hours. Tacky, but what else does a man want on a stag.

Aer Arann fly there from Dublin. Good train connections from Manchester not sure about Liverpool.
didnt really make myself clear above..sorry. we fly to blackpool and home from blackpool to belfast...believe it or not flights dont go home every hour from it and therefore we need to find a flight else where at close airport..ie liverpool or manchester...heard manchester go to belfast which suits best...thats why i asked.

Ah right, I'd say Msnchester is your best bet! Train straight to the airport and regular enough flights to Belfast!
If it's before the end of oct you can fly from liverpool to Belfast with ryanair. Only prob is the train won't go straight to the airport. You'll need to get bus from limestreet which is about 20 min trip.
few ones said its maybe 40 quid in taxi to manchester airport from blackpool..wouldnt be dangerous money between a few...flight from manchester a few hours earlier than the one we are currently booked on so it could be the shout..thanks for help

Great town for Stag or any type of party have been many times, Walkabout, Brannigans are two bars to try & nightclubs Club Sanuk & Syndicate Blackpool
Blackpool to Manchester Airport takes about 1hr 30mins (direct train) while Liverpool is about the same but you have to get an bus from Lime street station to the Airport

Was at a stag in Carrick a few years ago. Totally class craic. Good pub scene and I can remember getting on a bus in town which took you out to a nightclub in the sticks. It was a first class stag destination and a huge venue but I can't recall the name. Apparently it was being refurbed last year.
A really heavy weekend but everybody got home safe and sound after.

After a bit of googling I found it. Its now called Passion at The Cartown. Two or three floors, discos and live bands. Buses pick you up at the boardwalk in town.
Carrick is a excellent town for Stag do's or Hen party's one the best town's in the west & i think you can get into the Passion for free before 12am
Bars i would recommend are Havana,Murtaghs (also has a upstairs nite club), Dunne's and the Boardwalk bar in the landmark Hotel

The Grassmarket is the best place to base yourselves in Onion Bag. I'd highly recommend The 3 Sisters.

Organised my mates there in June. Deadly spot.
We stayed in budgetbackpackers which is grand for all the sleeping you'll be doing, it's cheap and also right beside the 3 Sisters pub, which is usually pretty happening. Zig has just reminded me about the Grass market. The hostel is in between the 3 sisters and it. Couldn't be better placed.
I organised white water raftling, which was good but it's a brave trek up to the river about 90 mins away which isn't great for the old hangover.

Had my stag there many moons ago. Although the city centre isn't that big it's a hoor to get around up all the hills etc. when you're half lit. Grassmarket would be in the middle of the action and there should be enough hotels and hostels so suit all pockets. Being from Armagh you'll hardly want anything too fancy... ;) The 3 Sisters (when I was in it years ago) would have been the Edinburgh equivalent of the Bot.

try some of the Apex hotels. one of them is right in the grassmarket. i stayed in Apex European for 2009 Heineken Cup final, perfect location. opposite haymarket train station.
or an alternative, i had my own stag there 4 years ago. stayed in a youth hostel. 2 rooms x 8 beds. £15/20 a head. did the job. St Christophers. Walking distance to nightlife. maybe your mates will turn their noses up at the idea, but hey, it's a stag, not a romantic weekend.

We are flying easyjet into newcastle from belfast at end of January and it was about stg50 a head, good times on a friday and sunday as well. If you give it plenty of notice, you should be ok.
Newcastle is super for a stag.

Have been on Stag to both. Newcastle was definitley better craic. Westport was pretty good too though.
Is there something on at the time either end that could driving prices up. I booked about 3 months ahead and got them for the 50. Newcastle at home to Spurs that weekend but I'd epxect they wouldn't have the numbers flying in that Liverpool or United would.
Jurys Inn good enough price wise and location wise as well if you looking at accomodation. They will take a bond/deposit of a couple of hundred on arrival though through a credit card for any disturbstances/damage.

Just checked easyjet Belfast to Newcastle was quoted £50 for weekends 11th to 13th & 4th to 6th
Westport have cut back on the Stag/Hen parties over the last few years, Carrick on Shannon is the place that seems to getting more these days

Oneills is a hell hole, doesnt even have sky anymore.
Newcastle not a great spot for irish bars, you could try the irish centre up near st james.

Does the gate still be the place to go to for bars and clubs and what about down by the quayside. its been a while since i have been so cant really remember. Staying in jurys which i always remember as being good craic in the residents bar

It's dire. Hasn't been painted in about 30 years. I thought Newcastle was over-rated.
As for TAM, RLL could set you right on Kilkenny. Haven't been to either in years.

Edinburgh is amazing, you will never have a bad night out in Liverpool either. Southampton would be a new one on me, would say it's a good spot too.

u ever been to a stag in blackpool before ross??? i didnt hate it...just not a great city...very run down...old holiday resort...not very impressive plus ugly women :) Few good bars etc dont get me wrong and we made most of what we had...just would never go back on one lol

Blackpool is a haven for stags/hen parties some love it others not so much, IMO it's one of the best nightlife cities in Northern England though the women in Blackpool seem to be of the older category
Manchester,Liverpool are decent cities to party you could do both if you have a full weekend planned?

My info could be a little out of date here since it's been a while since I've been to Kilkenny, but my honest answer would be neither. Kilkenny is grand if you want to keep it quiet enough, but it's too focussed around Langtons, and on any busy kind of night you either have to be in red early, or else queue for ages, neither of which is suited to a stag.
There used to be issues with closing early too on account of a strict superintendent reacting to fights. I've no idea if this has been lifted or not but I'd explore it before booking anything. The town generally doesn't like stag/hen dos since they got too many of them from Dublin. You might meet with difficulty.
I live in Galway and while there are some great pubs, the good ones don't let stags in either and getting into a nightclub is a nightmare with any gang of lads, unless you can be pretty sure most of them will be stone cold sober.
If you've never been, Carrick on Shannon is rock solid, and actually Tullamore is a good spot for these things as well. Either of those you could start in a rural pub and work in if you wanted to do so - Leitrim village has a lot of houses for rent that is only a few miles from Carrick, but they're in a self contained area, so if the party carries on back at the house, there's no neighbours to annoy.

Newcastle seems to have two main areas for socialising.
The area around the Gate mall is buzzing; there must be 10 bars in the mall itself, and stag central Sam Jacks and Tiger Tiger are right beside. This is a younger crowd up this end of town, 17-25 year olds. Lots of jailbait.
About half a mile down the road is the Quayside area, which seems to be favoured more by 25-35 year olds. There's bars, pubs and nightclubs on top of each other, and the legendary Buffalo Joes is just over the bridge. It's tacky as hell, but is full to the brim of stags and hens. There's a good kebab shop opposite the Sea nightclub :)
Buffalo joes is closed now.
For late, late drinking, aspers casino at the back of the gate is your spot.

Depends what sort of nightlife you are after though and all as busy as each other.
i have been to quite a few stags.
Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester were all excellant in england.
Abroad went to Riga Prague and Barca.
Barcelona is crap for a stag. Prague is great, Riga middlin.
Lived in Edinburgh a fantastic city, especially during festival in August, open all hours
At Home been to kilkenny, letterkenny, Galway, Carrick, Westport and Carlingford.
all fantastic spots,
Worst one was Definetly Barcelona, went to Nou Camp on sat night totally ruined the night everyone sobered up during game and were all bollaxed by time got back to city.
Anyone ever been to Leeds on a stag do??? headin there in a few months....
also seen you talkin about newcastle above..was there on a stag last feb...loved it...havent a bad word to say about it!!!
Leeds would be grand, can be pretty rough so dont go nuts not in the same league as Liverpool or Newcastle though
You dont know the bunch im goin with sammy then lol....wouldnt be a fighter among them but my god they are nuts and up for anything...have never been to leeds or dont even know one person that has ever been.....its a weird choice in my eyes but could be good....might give ya pm nearer the time for a few places to go etc

Have been to Cardiff, i thought it was one of the best stags i was on, suppose it depends on the crowd you are with. The welsh are dead fiendly and the women love the Irish accent. It is all on one street, some great entertainment spots ;)

Hotels are you mad. They would take 1 look at a stag do and chase you up the street. We stayed in a premier inn right beside Walkabout, complete hole but it done the job, seem to remember sleeping in the bath but i digress, was about £30 a night.
Try the Travelodge. On top of the Walkabout and on the main street where it all happens. It gets great reviews on trip advisor :D

Nice wee karting track in Newry, beside the marshes. You'll need a pint ot two after as it's a painful experience.
like i said before im for a stag in leeds in may time...been lookin on google there..we talkin about stayin in jurys hotel..it seems to be a fair bit away from the airport...says 31 min drive on google maps..should we be thinkin of train?? Prob book bus to take us all if its not that far etc....

Anyone care to comment on nightclubs, feeding etc.
We don't eat out in Newry, we eat fast food. Or at least it seems that way as the restaurants are generally shite, while Friar Tucks, Pat Prices and La Dolce Vita always hit the spot (normally about a foot below the chin). At a push, Red, or Blue Print Pizza would do the job if you feel like sitting down, while the Brass Monkey or Bank are sometimes above par - although there'll be music blaring if you eat too late in either.
In terms of heading out, it's a one night a week town. Fridays can be okay in Bellini's or the Vault, but mostly we stay in and wash our smalls. Or go to the Marine in Warrenpoint for cheap booze.
Saturdays are much better. The Relic nightclub if you're under 20 and enjoy getting stabbed. The Vault nightclub if you're 19-25 and like getting your p***k teased, or maybe better. Bellini's for the next age group upwards, mostly with live music although a liquorice all sorts kind of crowd. The Millers Suite at the Canal Court is the catch all for everyone - more of a throwback to your old style Irish discos in big barns in the countryside - and has the feeling of a big wedding at it, with everything from teenagers to pensioners. Doesn't get busy til after midnight either, like a proper throwback. The main bar in the hotel will be jammed full of talent from 10pm onwards though.

Anyone ever been to leeds on a stag weekend??? headin there this weekend and any advice would be welcomed....really looking forward to it..have never been to leeds and know very little about it apart from what i googled lol!!
Also is there any chance the flights wont go ahead to leeds cause of the ash :( i hear its mostly scotland its affecting but i guess we cant rule out it being blown down to the mainland???

Lads- organising a stag do for the middle of February 2012. Plan is bus from Tyrone early on Friday evening, stay in around Newry (flexible on this) on the Friday night and bus down the road to Dublin on Saturday. I have the Dublin leg of the trip kinda organised but not sure what to do around Newry etc on the Friday. I know around home, Friday nights are dead as F##k now, not sure what everywhere else is like? I'm flexible on Newry- could be anywhere in and around that general direction, but probably the North is better value with exchange rate etc at the minute? Any tips or advice on the following:
-decent nightspots in Newry area on a Friday night
-cheap accomodation with late drinking facilities ;D (anything considered)

Canal Court , Bellinis or the Relic nite club all good spots in Newry or also Marine Tavern in Warrenpoint about 7 miles away very good . Canal court was offering good deals not so long ago not so sure now . Check out the Francis Court Hotel which is part of the same complex as the Relic . Some good pubs around Newry depending what you are looking

Newry is dead on a Friday night - even the local pubs are quiet these days. Your only chance of a crowd is Bellinis and it'll be a strange crowd. The Marine in Warrenpoint normally does a good turn on a Friday.

If it's a stag.. Friday night in Newry...get ensconced in a wee pub somewhere and make your own crack.... a few good pints of porter and leave the women chasing till Sat in Dublin...nothing in Newry unless you want to go to the Marine as recommended by Wobbs.
Pubs for a session like that would be The Bridge, Brass Monkey, McCoys, Cobbles....don't rule out a few of the local GAA clubs which are normally good crack on Fri night...no women but plenty of football talk.....
Best one around is Ballyholland Harps GAC, Betty's Hill Road, Newry, Co Down. Tel 028 302 66985...warn them if you're gonna land ;) ;) ;) ;)

Early next summer could take in a game at Euros or even head to a country where the country is involved ie Berlin or Madrid/Barcalona, tie it in with one of their games, would ge a great buzz round if its a big game.

Was at a savage stag in Inishbofin at the weekend, would highly recommend it, pub pretty much didn't close, bit of fishing on the sat and the pub cooked up what we caught, great job

Yes family hols in Tenerife over Easter and back late yesterday from stag!! Ive got the shakes bad, thought it was a good idea to do circuits this morning, regretting it now!!
First night was bonkers, I suppose you are fecked when drinking in the airport for 8am, second night I never even made it out!! 3rd night was bonkers, bottles of peach snaps and other bottles just being knocked back. A very subdude plane on the way back

Going to Krakow this weekend myself Archie.
have been. Cannot mind the name of a single bar we were in right enough. All where based around the big square, which is class. Beautiful city. The special clubs a la Prague are not centrally based, a taxi ride away. Complete rip off as well, the taxis and the clubs. If on a stag, heed this warning....there is pretty much zero tolerance for folk being too drunk in public, falling asleep on the street with too much of the good stuff on board. You'll be scooped up and thrown into the drunk tank based aoutta town and not let out til the following night (£50 lighter). We had a chap lifted who couldnt find the appartment and put the head down in a doorway.
We booked a 'special' evening meal which was some craic. Could hoke out the details if needed ;-)
All in all, a class, beautiful city with superb beers and a bountiful of ladies who are tres easy on the eyes
Don't like the sound of that drunk tank.
Think we have a special boat trip booked, should be good. Going to the rifle range one of the days as well. Apart from that I am not sure.

Edinburgh is great. Few years since I've been but we stayed(about 12 lads) in Jury's Inn. It was OK, nothing fancy but done the job.

I have been to a good few stags in Edinburgh and its a great spot. Probably more so for boozing during the day rather than the clubs as there are loads of good bars that are usually lively at the weekend, especial;ly with any sport on. Loads of bars and late pubs that you can get round - Grassmarket area during the day.
We stayed in Jurys and it was 100%, just don't drink in the bar, its pricey like all hotel bars. Also stayed in Thistle Hotel up top of Princces street. Not as lively crowd as Jurys would have ie fellow stag parties. More tourists, americans, bus tours etc. But a lovely hotel and lovely setting.
In the thistle, was no residents bar by time we landed back but they'd do room service. About 6 of us, headed to one of the rooms and ordered, drink came no problem. Having a craic nothing too bad (In jurys I remember it was like open house between rooms and parties), 10 minutes later phone rang from front desk asking to keep it down. We rang back and ordered another drink thinking we'd be told to do one. No problem drink came, ten minutes later front desk rang, keep it down. Chanced another drink, no problem. This went on for about two hours till we all just hit the bed. Nothing said the next day either.
We stayed int he Grassmarket hotel last year. Prices were reasonable and they served the breakfast in the adjoining bar the next morning so it was a good way to start the day off

Does anyone have any info on Cavan as a destination for a stag? One of the crew was on one there before & thought it was pretty good.....but thought I'd get some other views here! The groom is from Carrick on Shannon & wer not planning on travelling to far for this one as we've been abroad for a few in the past 12-18months. We've also done Galway numerous times along with Westport, Sligo etc so it looks like Cavan.
Where's good to go out, eat, stay etc. Any spots with pool tables/sports bar & near a bookies to pass the saturday afternoon!

I'm with nationwide who've only started doing this recently. They charge a quid per withdrawal plus a percentage. It's a very small percentage but a percentage none the less. For years I got away with no fees on it but last year they introduced this.

Cavan wouldn't be that great a spot in my opinion. Used to go out pretty often in Cavan. Used to hit (I Think) McMahons bar first. Really nice bar but it's completely empty until 11pm at the earliest. Then usually fills up pretty quick. The imperial bar/nightclub used to be good as well. But pretty young (Or maybe I'm pretty old :-\ )
You don't see that many Hen parties or stags out in Cavan. So it wouldn't be one of the spots I'd recommend. Would you try Carlingford or somewhere along that direction? Had a couple of stags there and it's great. Hen party central as well.

I live there. Fantastic city whatever the weather but fifteen degrees it won't be, unless a clear bright day and you're standing in the sun the whole time. Given the layout of the city, that's unlikely.

I was on a stag to barca. And to be honest it wasn't a great city for a stag in my opinion. Now maybe the stag hadn't done his homework on venues. Although we did ruin the Saturday by going to the nou camp for a barca game in itself good but it was a late kick off.. It interrupted the drinking and after the game the notion of drink was gone for most. So maybe the choice of events ruined it. But defo the worst stag I was ever on.

Nah it's fine. T-Shirt/shirt and jacket keeps you more than warm but those temperatures are only if you stay in the sun as I said. Further south than at home and wrong time of year though, so days obviously very short. Wind can cut you open though so I'd advise jacket and scarf. Rain unlikely though.
Everywhere well be busy as long as you stick to Spanish hours. Les Rambles will always be packed at any time of year. Perfectly acceptable to go for your dinner in a restaurant at 10, go to a bar at 12 and a club at 3. Avoid pretentious clubs down at the beach like Opium and stick to the Barri Gotic and Raval. Barcelona is becoming very, very hipster and alternative but it's a cool city that should cater to pretty much all tastes. If you're staying in the old town (either of the areas mentioned above) just be careful about how much noise you make out in the streets at night. Residents are known to be hostile to tourists and it's not uncommon to hear tales of foreign revellers getting egged or water bombed.

FWIW, before I moved here I was here on a stag and loved it, although that was in late April.

Great city for a stag. We just stayed in a hostel right in the city centre..Might have been Mary Street??...its right beside the Millenium stadium. We never went to Cardiff bay but its meant to be a good spot. I remember we went to one really good bar..Live Lounge
This has probably being asked before but what are the best pubs in Kilkenny? Friday night would be looking for a pub with good pints and nothing too wild. Saturday would be somewhere good to drink during day to watch sport. Paris Texas for dinner at 6 then be looking for good busy spot after.
Dinner in Paris Texas? I could think of a dozen places where you would get better food. Its ok but there are some great restaurants in Kilkenny.
If you want a quiet pub to start then you won't find better than Syd Harkins on Rose Inn street. Best pint of Guinness in Kilkenny, no loud music or TV's and plenty of hurling talk.
There's also a pub right opposite the Nore bridge called Tynans Bridge House Bar which is a good decent pub. Harkins is just up around the corner from it.
The Left Bank on the Parade then later on if you want something a bit more lively.
If you like a good pub crawl then go to Parliament St just down opposite the Smithwicks brewery. The street has about 15 pubs side by side. John Cleere's being one of the ones I go to.
For watching Sport on a saturday Paris Texas would be fine but most places would be grand for that on a saturday.
Stay away from places like Matt the Miller's and Langtons. I met my wife in Langtons so its full of bad memories for me.. ;D
Actually stay away from John Street altogether, full of stags and hens from Dublin.

Plenty of pubs and restaurants in very close proximity. Lively wee spot with live bands in pubs etc. Popular for stags & hens. Always enjoyed it.

Been to Budapest recently on a stag, weather was class - wasn't keen on the city to be honest. Bit run down - but hard to get rid of money at the same time, for all intents and purposes a decent enough spot for a mess of a stag - but if you want to go and have a bit of a look about, activities etc....probably not the best spot. Prague beats it out of the gate.

There's an interesting little pub on one of the pedestrian streets. It used to be frequented by Robert Louis Stevenson, and he based the main character in Treasure Island on the owner of the pub, Jack Hawkins. It's a strange little place, as the building is actually slanted, and you can see the door is hopelessly leaning off to one side. Another cool thing there is the Beer/Cider barges on the water. You can go one and go up and down the river drinking beer. There's a cider barge where they serve the rocket fuel cider which is made around there and Somerset.

I've a sister living In Bristol and have been there many times, I'll echo all AZ says, it's a pretty cool place. Not exactly a stag-do thing but it youre there you got to go to look at and walk across the Clifton Suspension Bridge, it's some feat of engineering. I've always been fascinated by Brunel and this is his greatest work.
Bristol is also home to the largest restaurant in Britian a all you can eat buffet called Za Za Bazaar at the harbourside.
By the way some of that cider is dangerous stuff..

Lots of cheap booze and food. They say the square is more expensive than the rest but it is still a mile cheaper than at home.
Pod Papugami is an Irish bar off the square where basically anything goes.
Just watch you don't drink too much vodka the morning you go home in case they don't let you on the flight and you have to book the evening flight to Dublin by yourself.

Went for a stag just over a year ago. Any stag's ive been on tend to be 4 days of drinking so couldnt really tell you about activities outside of that. I didnt find it overly cheap tbh (unless you go for pints in an underground dungeon). The usual sights on a wee walk are worth a visit ie the astronomical clock, Charles bridge etc. stopping for refreshments along the way of course.

Rocky O'Reilly's a great wee bar to catch whatever sport you want to watch when over there, ended up in awful shape in it and they didn't help by landing down with free drinks every few rounds.
You can do the mad stuff like going up to the hills and shooting the guns etc, wasn't for me but half the group done it. You've a few clubs right on the river bank that'll be eyecatching enough if your into that type of thing. Wouldn't worry about a language barrier - you'll find everyone speaks English.
Don't go to Goldfingers until your final night.

We spent the day in / outside Becketts (from 2 to 9pm) in Prague 2, cab ride from the city centre. Ate twice had about 10 pints per man and the bill only came to €20 / skull. We got lucky with the weather, it was last April. The old town then afterwards is the place to go. Avoid that shithole goldfingers.
One thing is to make sure and get a rate off the cabbies as they will rip you off.

Definitely go in to the bars in small groups. Don't bother with the Whiskey Bar, yous will be asked to leave if there is a crowd of yous.

My stag was in Galway. A right while ago now but the whole group didn't manage to get into any clubs etc together. Tried the small group craic but sure doesn't the old northern accent give the game away quite handily.

Yep as above, as the evening progresses you'll probably naturally break up anyway but I'd say 4s and 5s would be better. Normal stuff applies, no point crying about not getting in if your swaying everyroad and clearly steamed. One thing about Galway bouncers - a bit of manners goes a long way.

M50 is your best bet tbh. You'll get a bit of traffic obviously but nothing like being stuck behind all sorts going through the country. Go with what you know.

Point to note about Galway is that the bouncers of quite a few establishments are in contact throughout the night. Any group causing hassle in one spot could find themselves shut out of everywhere.
15 should be fine. Go up in 3/4 groups. I was on a stag there a few years ago with 40. We got in to the first pub (Taaffes) as a group, in dribs and drabs. That was the last time we were all together.

As has been said by others - definitely smaller groups is the way to go. And the smaller the better. Honestly go in 2's and 3's if ye want to get in anywhere in the city centre after a good few beers.

Freeney's, Sonny Molloy's & Murphy's are all great pubs on Quay St with a great pint of stout. Love them.
For the match The Skeff on Eyre's Sq has loads of TVs and will have a good atmosphere. Or Monroe's on Dominic St also.

Organised a stag in Lahinch back in April. Spent the Saturday on Inis Oirr in a pub. Great craic, low key, lots of pints and some great music in the bars in town

Went on a stag in Galway recently. Advice is to not make it obvious there is a group of use on a stag. Most bars had a no stag/hen policy and we only got into places when going in smaller groups.

I'd agree, wouldn't be fussed on the fancy dress stuff. It's also an excuse for pubs to not let you in.

Previously been to Amsterdam, Barcelona, all usual UK spots, none of the lads want to go down south cos it's a rip off and we've all been to Galway / Dublin a rake of times.
I did Krakow for a stag. Enjoyed it. It was just a few days drinking really though but that is all most of us wanted. Cheap enough of course. It was good spending time at the bars and restaurants around the main square during decent weather.
I didn't feel like it was the time to go to Auschwitz myself but each to their own.
I dont understand going foreign for a stag, putting huge expense on people. Lot to be said for meeting in the local, having a few, hire a bus go on a tour of a few locals within 20 miles, then settling in one spot, then bus home. 1 or 2 days is enough. Pure and utter load of bollix, going foreign, dressing up, drinking for 3 days, organising big events. Thank feck those daft days are behind me.

I'm the opposite. Past the 40 mark and miss the auld stag do's now that they've slowed down. Liverpool, Newcastle etc all great craic. Can do the few drinks down the local anytime.
You'd spend less in Liverpool flights included than you would a wkend in Dublin/ Carrick/ Galway etc.

A friends sister went abroad to get married (both second time, late 40's) , and she took a huff because her elderly mother , and another sister (who is a single mother) told her they wouldn't be fit/didn't have the means, to go.

Have heard of the "mystery tour" bus recently and sounds good craic, landing to a load of places within locality.
Abroad you'd get less hassle though as they're more geared up for them. I didn't like Amsterdam at all but Barcelona was unreal.
Never hear of any stags heading for London, probably cos it's expensive.
Cardiff, Newcastle, Manchester, Bristol, all much the same and same establishments IMO. Liverpool isn't bad but very repetitive at this stage
Heard krakow is very cheap which is the main driver but 3hr flight isn't great with the horrors!

I'd agree about the expense side. The only way I could fathom asking all the lads to go to Krakow etc is if it was the same price or not much more than heading down south or over to UK (less is a bonus obv)
Last year I was asked to go to both Cardiff and Bristol and the price was a joke to be honest. I think the flights were around £150 cos the groom wanted to fly with Aer lingus.
Then he also wanted a "nice" hotel with a pool etc which meant we were all nearly £300-350 all in for 2 nights. Ended up being a crap enough city and drinking to pass the time. Full of Wetherspoons, dives
Years ago when you were getting flights for buttons the "foreign" option was more appealing and definitely cheaper than a trip to Halway or Dublin.
I wouldn't thank you for an invite on a stag now.
Organized one for my mate in Fermanagh. Hire Benny's bus, headed out to a shebeen and had a local brewery bring beers. Then went to Belleek, garrison and then to the Linnet Inn in Boho and back into Enniskillen for the night. Was deadly and got to sleep in your own bed

Hard to beat local like Carlingford, all you see is 4 walls so what's the point in 3hour flights?
Was in Krakow for one, was class craic to be fair but more about the lads and polish women as we never left a bar for 3 days (except to head back with a local blonde!

Budapest too is class with the bars and baths but with a group of lads you'll just hit a bar and stay there for 2 or 3 days
Organised a stag in Lahinch a few years ago and was a cracking weekend. Instead of looking for an "activity" to do the Saturday, we got a taxi to Doolin and took the ferry to Inis Oírr. Walked into the pub, sat there for 8 hours, took the last ferry back. Fire was blazing, pints were creamy and a crowd of Tyrone hallions turned up an hour or two into it with a guitar. Decent meal back in town that night and a few pints and bed. Highly recommend. I know some people base themselves Inís Mor and do a tour of the islands type job for stags.
I think now I'd avoid them, just cannot handle them anymore, the craic is great at the time but the recovery isn't worth it!!
I've done a right few club stag do's over the years, few in Spain and few in the South couple in Newcastle, its carnage lol!!
Newcastle is a great spot for them though. You have the dog track, paintballing, go carting and then the night life, the last time we were there we had someone organise all that stuff and they met up with us at night with a pub crawl and tickets into the the nightclubs afterwards.
Takes the hassle of all getting in to places and knowing where to go
Did a stag last spring, bus to Dundalk Races with the plan to head into Newry / Carlingford after, it was a mess long before bedtime tho and were in the cot early. Great night out tho, been many many times before.

Although I don't like the thought of the islands being overrun with stags and hens . Although I know some places on the islands won't take them in (overnight anyway)

Nonsense. Go to your local the night before, then straight in the bus to Dublin overnight ;D I once chained together a night out in Belfast and Brussels across 2 nights with zero sleep. 42 hours awake and probably as many pints in that time. Mind you I was early 20s at the time. It was some craic.
Did a stag there in Ballaghaderreen about a month ago. Was great craic. The local lads had bus laid on for a beer tour which in hindsight was a great idea. Started in Solans, then onto Duffys in Kilmovee. From there to a place called the brusna Inn, then murrays in charlestown and finished off back in creatons in Ballagh. Pints were top class. Learned all about the border disputes in that part of the world. ;)
I love hearing the really biased stories of locals for wars / disputes lol.
Edinburgh was great for a stag back when I went. Loads of bars / night clubs. Also that seven sisters is a perfect stag bar and there are ahem other "clubs" that stag dos may like.
Also Ibiza would be ludicrously expensive. Krakow wasn't bad when we were in it. Not a while pile to do bar drink but maybe not an issue. (salt mines and auschwitz which are not really stag material...).
Berlin would be a good spot too.

Hamburg isn't up to much was there last Sept with 15 lads. Prague great spot as is Riga. Well they were 15 years ago.
Was in Hamburg during the World Cup in 2006 and thought it was a great spot...maybe it was the World Cup experience.
Went on a stag to Prague maybe mid 2000's...deadly time...go off the beaten track to get cheap prices (beer). We spent 3 nights...the horrors afterwards would truly awful.
Organized one in Edinburgh...wasn't too hard...hostel and the Seven Sisters for the weekend and that was about it! It was 2010...USA playing Eng at the World Cup...did the fancy dress...uncle sam etc. Good craic at the time but wouldn't thank you for an invite to stag now!

Maynooth or Naas would be worth looking at.
Lawlors of Naas a safe bet. Or try Trim, good provincial town, at least 3 hotels and some class pubs and restaurants. Another great wee place is Skerries, spoiled for choice pubs and good restaurants but places to stay a bit limited.

Naas a rough dive and if you're not local lads from the area it's notorious for trouble for out of towners. Not the most welcoming bar fletchers or Hayden's pub for a quiet pint

I was at a friends stag in Newcastle, he's born and bred Scot but late teens the family moved to outside Leeds, course he married had kids and divorced, but at the stag for his second marriage he was made to wear a King George outfit all day! The man was demented lol. While his English born kids took the pish..

Quick question lads. Not q stag do. Just a group of lads looking for a good spot for the weekend. What's athlone or mullingar like. We've done all the obvious places before.
Don't live too far from Mullingar but would never go there on a night out.
Did a stag in Athlone and you have some nice spots.

Athlone punches massively above its weight for bars and restaurants and is fairly compact. Dead Centre Brewery is nice down by the river and a pint of Dead Pixel is hard to beat when the sun is out. Does decent pizzas and small bites too. Sean's is compulsory. If you like Thai food Kin Khao is good, would also recommend The Fatted Calf. Leftbank Bistro is lovely and beside Sean's and The Snug which is worth a visit too.

The Poitín Still is a good bar for during the day, Murtagh's for the more club feel I think. Hard to go wrong though, great wee town from what I remember of it

We were at a campsite in BattleBridge, took a couple taxis into Carrick one night - plenty of pints.
Woke up in the morning, no sign of the brother and about 10 missed calls from the mother. Apparently the brother had staggered through the front door of the home house at about 4am back in Omagh.
He'd stayed behind in Carrick chasing tail, finally hailed himself a taxi - and fuckin said Blacklion instead of Battlebridge. Ended up in Blacklion, realized his mistake. Fell into company in a bar with a taxi driver who was headed to Fintona - made it to Fintona and got a taxi back to Omagh where he spent the night. Mammy drove him back to Carrick for the rest of the weekend.
Never ceases to make me chuckle.

Try Flannerys in Athlone as well, great pub. Kinda traditional, yet off the wall. Good music, unconventional barlady and her dogs! They even made a film about the place...
