AZ, it is more across from the Europa than Jury's, but still a good place to eat as well, can be a bit expensive though!

True, I just stayed in Jurys and walked to it, hence 'near to Jury's' :D

I didn't think it was that expensive.

I'd like to think anywhere you went to would serve a decent steak! How hard can it be as it must be the most widely sold dish in any restaurant!

L'Etoile on the Ormeau Road.  Not licensed, but is bring your own, which is better I think.

yea but a steak is no use on its own!! you need a good sauce and a decent selection of sides, id heard before that toni romas was nice and pretty reasonable, for me its more about feeling relaxed, getting good service etc, then the food tends to be more enjoyable, its hard to find that balance sometimes!

Best Irish Stew I've ever had was in the Crown. You can drink there too!

thought the service in toni's was pretty good, but can be pretty busy at the weekend and it could be a while waiting for a seat. how many are going for the feed?

The Canal Court is hard to whack for steak but last I checked it wasn't in Belfast.

Does anyone else find that restaurant's never really cook steak to your order. It is nearly always a grade pinker than what you order. If I order medium-rare it comes rare or if order medium comes medium-rare. Maybe it's me that is wrong?!

If you were in Ethiopia you would be glad of it, medium rare or not......

Dean's at Queen's is pretty good.
Title: Re: best place to eat in belfast??

i like it a wee bt rarer, i go med-rare myself and like it closer to rare than medium, i think they do that because if they make the mistake the other way they cant rectify it. i,e if you ask med-rare and it comes out rare they can wack it back on for a minute or two!!

theres a place i used to work in warrenpoint, they serve the steak on a hot stone, it is basically rare when it comes out and you cook it yourself to your liking, you can just cut off wee bits at a time and then eat them as you like.

it always garauntees that its cooked to your liking, but sort of defeats the purpose of eating out as your paying to cook your own food.

double edged sword really!!

Olio (behind Robinsons, beside Travelodge). Never had a bad feed in it. Doesnt look like much on the outside, very nice decor in the inside & reasonable.

why has no-one mentioned temps on botanic avenue?

If you really wanna impress this girl i recommend temps.  The chicken is so tender and the pizzas are second to none.

Malone Lodge is quite nice for evening dinner and bottle of rose, and reasonably priced to boot.

I was in Villa Italia last night too--great steak with garlic butter--u cant beat Villa or Scalinis for italian food, good service and value in belfast. Other italians like cafe milano would put the arm in and charge £3/4 extra per steak or chicken but those places do good portions for the price you're payin. Speranza is nice too but not as good.

Malone Lodge is quite expensive with a bit of a weird menu.
Goodfellas can be an experience!

Sorry to tell ya's lads but Temps is officially closed!!

Rav-the Nostra is some spot, went there by myself for a bit of chicken pie at about four o clock in the afternoon on the wednesday since its in proximity to the Hat!

Was the only place I ate out of last week apart from Helen's for a small fry no beans!

Dunno lad but every day I walked past last week it was closed plus went after Shaws one night and was closed, put the word out the next day and apparently its closed for good!!

You're right about it being an institution though! Legendary in student circles.

Say what you like about it being a shit hole an all but did class pizzas!

was the kam wah the place on the ormeau? with susan as the resident taker of orders? many a feed was consumed outa there; felt sorry for wee susan; the quietest women in the world; when the wee locals would come in an start playin fitba; they didnt even have the manners to order a feed.......

The Kam Wah was a few doors up from were Subway is in Botanic. I think it was in the same premises bishops took over. It closed down(for the final time) in 2002/03 season i think.

I remember being in it one night when a young lad got his feed and threw it against the wall. The next time i was back in it the curry stain was still on the tiles.

That Bishops is closed now as well, Botanic would need to wise up and get some new late night opening places because I for one don't want a Subway at two in the f**king morning!!

Had dinner in Nick's Warehouse on Saturday night and have to say that it is one of the most impressive places in Belfast, the food was beautiful, the staff were fantastic and the ambience lovely.  Definately now my favourite place to eat.

Jesus the Kam Wah, frequently ate teryiaki greyhound out of that place. At least thats my presumption. Benedicts resturaunt is superb food. Paul rankin has (had?) a place just past the donegal road on the way down to the europa. The old man takes alot of folks there for business dinners, so It must be up to scratch also.
