A bit of a mad one.

Long story short, a company had bought the rights to use the Mayo Ladies Football crest on merchandise. The GAA sued, it also being the Mayo GAA crest, but it turns out the GAA doesn't own any copyright of county stuff, county boards do. So they sued and settled. But they share these copyrights with other non GAA teams. Clear?

On one hand it seems dicky to sue a company the Mayo LGFA fair and square did a deal with. It's their crest too. But it's a very obvious back door to sell merch as if it was official Mayo GAA gear.

But who actually owns a crest of you share it with two other sports bodies in your county? Time to pool merch amongst the 3 sports or tell them to get their own crest and kit?

There some fecking chancers claiming ownership over something they didn't design or copyright

Seen similar in the small print when setting up club leisure orders, something like "all design including club logo is copyright of ON and not to be used elsewhere" not even worth addressing that shite with them, a fairly moronic setup at times

Did Armagh not have to change its crest in the mid noughties over something to do with the city owning the crest and not the GAA?

Dubs did the same. Was the Corpo crest so they couldn't stop anyone knocking it off.

But the question I suppose is do the wimmin part own the crest? If so, why did they sue? If not, seems poor business to not have them clear as to their rights

Was it not the case that a good chunk of counties changed their crest because it was discovered the various county boards didn't have the copyright/the trademark use of the county crests?

They were, literally, county crests. Local authorities. So GAA ones were designed.

What's the story with the Armagh logo changing from a blue background to orange?

As for Armagh, the local authority county was abolished in 1973 along with the other five counties, but I suppose the Armagh city and district council that was abolished in 2015 had a similar enough logo to the old county crest:

But to the bigger point, this is another reason why merging the three organisations together would solve a lot of problems.

More to the Point Mayo GAA did a redesign of their Crest as the share it with the county council . though you'd need a good look to notice the Difference .
they also changed the motto from Dia is Muire Linn to Chroist LINN where as the ladies team had Peil Gael Na Mban on theirs but changed it a while back

They could have a win win situation by changing the
Motto to Íosa Chriost.
