General discussion / Golfing Locations - Any ideas
August 23, 2011, 07:29:05 PM
Me and a few friends are hoping to go away on a golfing weekend at the start of September (Sunday 4th). The plan is to play a round of golf on Sunday afternoon, head out for a few pints on Sunday night and then play another course on Monday. We're looking for a town where there might be a good crowd out on a Sunday night. We're not looking for anything too mad, just a lively pub. We're pretty flexible on locations, but somewhere no more than 2 hours drive from Fermanagh would be ideal. Has anyone got any ideas?

GAA Discussion / RTE GAA coverage online
June 20, 2010, 04:53:55 PM
There is probably a thread about this already but I can't find it! Anyway, I'm trying to watch the Galway v Offaly match via the RTE website and I keep getting the following error message "Error #1083". I wasn't able to watch the Roscommon match either. Has anyone been able to watch these games online today? I think I have anything I need installed so I'm not sure what's causing the problem. Anyone got any ideas?

General discussion / The Official Serie A Thread
January 24, 2010, 07:42:51 PM
Given that ESPN is free on freeview this weekend, I was thinking quite a few people might be watching the Milan derby tonight. It'll be interesting to see if David Beckham is as good as everyone has been saying since he returned to Italy.

Inter are 6 points ahead of AC, having played one more game. If AC win tonight, the championship race is back on.

Anyone watching Prizefighter on Sky Sports tonight? Darren Corbett from Belfast has just won his quarter final fight. He has a decent chance of winning this

General discussion / Weekend in Cork
February 23, 2009, 07:14:49 PM
Me and a few friends are heading down to Cork in two weeks time for the Fermanagh NFL match. I have never been in Cork before so my knowledge of the city is pretty poor. Does anyone know of any decent B&Bs or hotels that we could stay in? With regards heading out on the Saturday night, are there any pubs or clubs people would recommend?

Thanks.

General discussion / Help with a Mobile Phone
February 22, 2009, 12:24:08 AM
I haven't been able to send any text messages on my phone since this afternoon. I keep getting this error message:

Memory full. Close some applications and try again

I have closed all applications but it doesn't make any difference. I deleted my inbox during the week so I don't think it's a memory issue.

Has anyone had this problem before? If so, how did they fix it?

Thanks

General discussion / Welsh Open Snooker
February 21, 2009, 11:34:25 PM
I thought I would start a new thread to mark Joe Swail's progession through to the final of the Welsh Open tonight. He made hard work of it but he eventually defeated Neil Robertson 5-3. He plays Ali Carter in the final tomorrow. After 18 years on the circuit, this is Joe's first apperance in the final of a ranking tournament. Although he has had a couple of good runs in the World Championships over the years, this is the opportunity he has waited so long for. Let's hope he can go and win the whole thing!

General discussion / Cures. Do you believe in them?
November 27, 2008, 07:49:10 PM
We were having a discussion in work this week about the merits of cures. Quite a number of people argued they believe in them and have received many cures over the years for a variety of things such as warts to toothaches to cures for the shingles.

The site below lists a number of Irish folk cures.

http://www.tryskelion.com/tryskelion/folklore.htm

I was wondering what would the general consensus be among the members of the board. Do you believe in cures?

Does anyone know when 24 is returning to Sky One?

Iain Dowie has been sacked after just 15 games in charge with the team sitting ninth in the championship.

Whilst reading about his dismissal I learned that Dowie holds a Master's degree in engineering (M.Eng).

Are there many other professional footballers, past or present who are also well educated? I think Shaka Hislop is a mechanical Engineer and Arjan de Zeeuw has a degree in medical science.

Can anyone name any others?

General discussion / Beckham set to join AC Milan
October 22, 2008, 11:10:52 AM
Galliani: Beckham will join Milan

England midfielder David Beckham is to join AC Milan in January, according to the Serie A club's vice-president Adriano Galliani.

Beckham is under contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS, but their regular season finishes on Sunday.

Galliani had indicated at the weekend that Beckham would be invited to train with the club during the coming months, however, it now seems he could sign a short-term deal.

Galliani made the announcement at Milan's Malpensa airport ahead of his team's journey to Holland for Thursday's UEFA Cup game at Heerenveen.

"The player (Beckham) will train with us and in January he will sign with us until the end of the season," he said.

"He will be available for coach Carlo Ancelotti for both the domestic competition and the UEFA Cup.

"It's not just a marketing operation but a great acquisition."

Beckham had been linked with the Rossoneri before leaving Real Madrid for the United States.

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has given the blessing for the former Manchester United star to arrive to the San Siro because Beckham's arrival means there would be more competition for places in the squad.

"For me there are no problems," he said. "The players that will go on the bench will have problems."

GAA Discussion / Sligeach v Fear Manach
March 24, 2008, 06:33:18 PM
So Fermanagh make the short trip to Sligo this weekend hoping to make it five victories out of five on their quest to gain promotion to division 2. Although Fermanagh haven't been playing to their full potential so far this campaign they have shown marked signs of improvement under the guidance of Malachy O'Rourke. Sligo have been very disappointing this year, especially the last day out against near neighbours Leitrim. What are the thoughts of Sligo fans? I would have thought Sligo would have kicked on from their impressive Connacht championship win of last year. Is there renewed hope within the county after the u21 win over Galway at the weekend? Are there many u21 panelists on the senior panel?

GAA Discussion / Pitch inspections
February 03, 2008, 03:34:43 PM
Just in the door from Carrick on shannon where the match was postponed at 2pm. I know it's not that far from Fermanagh to Carrick but if the pitch was playable this morning and there wasn't much rain around in the interim then why was it deemed unplayable only a few hours later? It annoys me that officals do not take into consideration travelling supporters. If the decision over the condition of the pitch is left soley to the referee, who may only arrive to the ground an hour or so before throw in, then surely the GAA should have in place a system of pitch inspection which ensures that the paying public are not inconvenienced.

GAA Discussion / GAA club damaged in arson attack
December 19, 2007, 10:12:05 PM
GAA club damaged in arson attack  - BBC News

A GAA club in County Fermanagh has been damaged in an arson attack.

Graffiti was also painted on the walls of the club in Drumgoon near Maguiresbridge. The extent of the damage is unknown.

A sectarian motive is being investigated in the attack, which took place on Wednesday afternoon.

It is believed a window in a storeroom was broken and flammable liquid poured inside in an attempt to set fire to the building.

PSNI area commander Alwin Bardon condemned the incident and appealed to the community for assistance.

Police have appealed for information.

I'm really disapointed to hear about this. I hope we're not heading to a situation where a GAA club is attacked one night and an orange hall the next.  I thought these days were over  :-\
