Along with any Westmeath footballer or hurler who wants one. Although they are not free, the players only have to make a small monthly payment. Not on Dublin's level, but better than nothing!

Thing is.....Stephen Kenny goes under the title of (semi) professional. This is expected.

How about the van the county secretary gets to drive around in?
What about the great leader Sean Sheridan? Does he not get one?

Rossfan

I see Dublin got €1.4m in games development money last year.
2nd highest Cork €249k.

Meanwhile a study called Ireland (26Cos) 2040 predicts a 750k increase in the States population with 75% occurring in Dublin and adjoining Counties.
It is time for the GAA to start looking ahead and planning for this and other eventualities.
What changes will be needed to Administration and Management structures?
What type of Representative teams will be required?
E.G. will the 32 Counties model have to go?
Split heavily populated Eastern Counties?
Amalgamations of small midland western northern counties?

Genuine question...I know it light years away but:
Would it not devalue the competition and lessen its value if, for example, Mayo beat Fingal in an All-Ireland Final?

Rossfan

No how would it. If Fingal had 600,000 population and Mayo ( hopefully without west Ros 8)) had 100,000.
Meanwhile South Ulster, East Connacht, West Leinster would only have 750k between their 12 Counties.
But seriously the GAA need some Committee to consider the long term outlook.

more likely if the trend toeard professionalism continues the number of team will be reduced . Its hard on Purely Commercial terms to argue that Cavan hurdlers are the equal of Kilkenny or in football that Roscommon compared to Dublin.
Rugby can just about keep 4 teams going (at least 2 of which are a financial burden) and while  soccer keeps about 20 on life support th best the GAA could keep is 8 to 10

Not for Mayo.
If you were any use you'd be playing.
