Of the 1990 squad, Kevin Sheedy (1987), Steve Staunton (1990), Ray Houghton (1990), Ronnie Whelan (1990), John Aldridge (1988), David O'Leary (1989) all won English First Division medals around that time (Whelan was in the squad). McGrath arguably better than any of those and several other top flight players. It was a really good squad.

I think in hindsight the criticism of the style of play was a little overstated. Dunphy's outburst during the Egypt game, though mostly valid, was motivated by other things as he subsequently acknowledged. I think we should have been able to adapt a bit once/if we went behind. Not bringing Brady was not right in my opinion but overall he got a lot right.

The recent podcast 'Italia 90 - One Day at a Time' is a very good listen about the dynamic at the time, in the squad and outside, is a very good listen Seanie.

I think playing behind closed doors is helping them in that there's no crowd tension.

I think they learned some massive lessons about football (and themselves) last season.  Not there yet. 

I can't even watch it at the moment.

Norman Hunter of dirty Leeds, aged 76. Covid 19

One of the greats and very sorry to hear of his passing.

I know your reference to dirty Leeds is a tongue in cheek comment Benny and no harm is meant, but I wonder is the Leeds' reputation still a factor today as I was struck with the contrast between the headline reaction for Dalglish, when it was announced he had COVID 19 but was asymptomatic, and the much lesser media attention for Norman Hunter who was seriously ill in hospital with the same condition.

May Norman Rest In Peace.  Thanks for some wonderful memories.

A great footballer, according to Gilesy, and apparently a genuinely nice fella - worked in the club up to this season, I'm told.  RIP.

I've seen it.  It's ok - a bit slow and laboured from time to time, but it's an interesting story.  Written by Jo Nesbo who wrote the Harry Hole novels. 

Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne has died from a Coronavirus infection aged 52. 

The Nobody Zone is an excellent podcast, about the Irish serial killer in London.
