I saw a thread on social media today about popular comedies people don't like.

The list showed how subjective comedy is.

On it was:
Fawlty Towers
The Office
Allo Allo
Mrs Browns
Only Fools and Horses
Bread
The Fast Show
Last of the Summer Wine
Dad's Army
Friends
Monty Python
Some Mothers Do Ave Em
Absolutely Fab
Keeping Up Appearances
Blackadder
Porridge
etc etc

Mrs Brown's the only one I would turn off.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Same. Not sure I'd have the patience for The Fast Show these days but Mrs Browns wouldn't see the light of day.

My missus hates The Royle Family.

Champion The Wonder Horse

Can't recommend them all as I haven't seen any of some of them.

But would agree with Mrs Brown.

Also good if Frasier didn't make the list.

Substandard

This would be like singer/ band/ guitarist/ drummer lists- all very subjective.
I think all of them are age/ stage relative.  Stuff I thought was class as a kid in the 80s can sometimes seem naff now, but when you factor in nostalgia, it has a meaning or added value that younger generations don't appreciate,  they have their own stuff going on.
That said, I'm not at all up to speed (purely by choice) with tiktok or tiktokers or youtubers or the likes, but I still don't think that current teens will have similar shared memories as folks my age share now- everything seems so rushed and fractured.

Morecambe and Wise.

They were many things but they were not funny.

ONeill

I'm trying to think of American comedies in the 80s I'd have watched.

Cosby Show
Mork and Mindy

I never did Cheers.

Funny, I know someone who thinks they're the best comedy act ever.

It's not just me  then. Never seen anything funny  about them two

The two Ronnie's as well. That  fork handles sketch  is awful.

Maybe they were of  their time

Only fools and the Uk version of the office are probably the two most influential comedies the bbc ever made

sensethetone

A lot of those sitcoms tailed  off in later  series

The first 4 or  so series of Friends was excellent. After that , mainly awful

Royle  Family excellent, last few episodes  not so much

Blackadder, bar series 1 was  great

Keeping up appearances  was a Jekyll and Hyde comedy.  Mrs Bucket was ok in small doses , but  it was Onslow I was watching  for

I would add  Ghosts and Detectorists to the  list. Both  excellent , which is rare for recent BBC comedies

Never watched the  older  stuff , Dads army,  some mothers, python etc
