Quote from: Rois on September 04, 2024, 08:46:28 PMHave you not asked this before? No, but you can fly to Biarritz and get the bus.

Thought I did but was just checking..

After checking it's 50mins on bus or if you fly from Dublin to Bilbao it's 1-10mins..

Manchester do direct flights so might take that route instead..

But if you're Belfast based, that's not, well , 'direct'  ;D

No.. but it's 1.45 minutes to Dublin.. fly to France get a 50 odd minute bus to the resort, or 45 minute flight to Manchester and arrive directly to Destination?

Basically I'd prefer Belfast straight but timing might be easier to have Manchester flight  ;)
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

Back from Cambrills a couple weeks now, had a great time, but the missus is already looking to plan ahead for next year.

The camp type set up, similar to Cambrills, is what we would be looking for but to change things up a bit thinking of France for next year.

Any recommendations?

Have not been to Cambrils so can't do a direct comparison but we were in l'Hippocampe in South of France this year (La Sirene right next door).
It was very nice

Heading to the States towards the end of November for a week.

Just to be on the safe side going to take out some medical insurance, any providers / websites that would be recommended?

Some of those money apps also do free travel insurance if you sign up to their premium service. You get things like free subscriptions to journals, VPN and airport lounge access too. I think Revolut is about 150-200 per year plus you also get higher limits on free foreign exchange and ATM fees, handy if travelling. Might be worth checking. Wise I believe offer similar.

Been toying with holidays for next year. Did CP this year and few shorter breaks down south. Kids loved it and said they'd prefer CP over a sun holiday. But have been in CP the last couple of years.
Was thinking of heading over to England and going to one of the similar sort of places. Ideally one where you could go to a theme park or two on day trips.
Any recommendations for somewhere maybe with good entertainment on site?

Budapest all day. Brilliant city lots to see. Cool Christmas markets. Not mad expensive. It was very cold the last two trips I went. Minus 5

I was in Budapest around the New Year, it was a pale shadow or Vienna or Munich.

Vienna for me too.  Christmas market in front of the Rathaus.  Beautiful city.
Just back from Vienna. I'd now have to agree with previous posters. Vienna has better markets. Plus it's a fantastic city.

Flying or Driving?

Always hear good reports about Duinrell Euro Camp in the Netherlands - 30mins from Airport, has an on site theme park included.

We did Domaine des Ormes in Brittany last year, handy drive from the ferry, & lots of tourist attractions within 30mins (Mont St Michel, Zoos, & Aquarium ) similar setup to Centre Parcs in Longford - KelAir based in Galway have a big presence on site & do ferry/accommodation deals from Ireland

Or if you want to go to the UK, would you try one of the Centre Parcs over there? Whinfell Forest is <3hours from Stranraer. Weather could be shite though.
Woburn Forest is about an hour from Legoland & Thorpe park

A word of caution on Duinrell is that good weather isn't guaranteed there either. Know 2 families that went there and weather was okay but if they'd hit a site a few hours south in France it would have been class at the same time of year. They enjoyed the location and said loads of stuff for the kids and took trips to Amsterdam etc. but weather took a bit of the shine off. But sure where is guaranteed these days?!

We did Whinfell a couple of times and the kids loved it. We got the end of a heat wave the 2nd time so the weather was ok but it can change very quickly.

We did a couple of Eurocamp trips in Brittany which was handy to get to from the ferry. Weather good and plenty to do but you can find cheaper accommodation in the camp sites and get all the same facilities.

A few friends did CP in Belgium and loved it too - very similar set up the ones here but a good bit cheaper

Thinking of a cruise for a big Wedding Anniversary in 26, hear ones raving about them but not totally convinced, between a touch of claustrophobia in myself and herself thinking every form of transport will crash or sink, could be a big waste of money?

Not great foundations there Benny. I'd love to do it when all the weans are up and out, have friends who rave about them. They recommend the Med, Carribean, while beautiful is very samey they reckon

Same. I'm a touch claustrophobic myself but I know you can get decent sized cabins nowadays with windows (at a price). I'd always have been anti-cruise but practically everyone I know who has gone on one says they'd go again. We've a big anniversary in 25 but she's refusing to go anywhere at Easter as the young fella will be doing A Levels in May. You'd think she was doing the bloody things!

You'll struggle to get the bike on the boat Benny!
