It's a deliberate risk, and what allows them to pay such a high defensive line. He intercepted a through ball in the first half, where Watkins would have been clean through given a 'normal' goalkeeper starting position. Villa play a similar high line in the majority of their games, and Martinez should have been caught out in the same way away to Everton last season but Calvert-Lewin didn't take the shot on first time like Duran did.

Very comfortable for Villa, while getting to rest a few players. Can't be bad to that.

Dortmund showed to much respect and fear to Real in the second half. Putting 5 across the back and saying we are not going to try to score - just gave them reign to dominate.

Fair dues to Virgin Media for showing Real/Dort - Another would have gone for one of the English team options.

Well it was Madrid v Dortmund, a no-brainer choice for VM, i.e. if they had a choice.

Captain Obvious

From beating Celtic and scoring seven goals against them in the last round to losing to Real Madrid and conceding five goals tonight.

Outside of the likes of City and maybe Arsenal, can't see too many others with a realistic chance of beating an in-form Madrid.

Passage to the knock out stages pretty much in the bag with 5 games to play. Will be interesting to see what level of rotation is used in the next round. Keep players fresh for the league, or push hard for top 8 in champions league?

Can't see Arsenal beating them. Real Madrid v Barcelona might be worth a watch this Saturday

Watched that RM V Dortmund last night, RM look very imbalanced, could score 10 and concede 10. Camavenga & Touchemani on the bench seems odd with a 39 year old Modric doing little in MF. The likes of City at full tilt would have beat them out the gate last night.

I'd say plenty still at the rotation stage Benny, come the big matches Modric more a sub these days

El Clasico on Sunday I believe

If the injury situation remains quite calm, there are talented lads that need game time.  Rotation will become a lot more common than it was last season.

Real Madrid were seriously impressive in the second half. They move the ball so fast, and then casually bring on Camavinga for Modric to finish the job.  And Ancellotti as cool as a cucumber.
