That was a hell of a score by Conor Owens for the equaliser. Seems to have fallen down the pecking order but to come on and do that when the pressues was on was superb.

Is he carrying an injury or what or why was he not starting?

Christ on a f**king bike. He takes on long pots because he's famously good at them, having worked on them for decades and reckons he has a more than reasonable chance of making the shot. He's trying to win.

He doesn't take them on for a laugh, or to see how it goes, or to give the crowd something to cheer about because he's a bit of a lad.

Other players are just as famously good at long pots, but don't take tehm on as readily as Williams does. That's a matter of personality.

But tell me this, does he totally unncessarily sometimes take shots with his eyes closed, or underarm, or with his head turned away, purely because he's just good at such shots, or could it possibly be that he does so because he is also a bit of an entertainer, would you say?

[The level of self-agrandising by Tommy Nibs leads me to think he's gone full parody and is only saying 'most powerful yet' on a weekly basis as an in-joke/piss take.]

The level of self-agrandising by Tommy Nibs leads me to think he's gone full parody and is only saying 'most powerful yet' on a weekly basis as an in-joke/piss take. Does grate at times, trying to sound nuanced with phrases like 'the modern GAA calendar'

Like all platforms, they flit from the GAA being in existential crisis to a life affirming Championship on a weekly basis depending on the most recent high profile game. If Down-Armagh had been the only game last weekend there would no doubt have been an inquest on various rules, coaching and the provincial system - but because Tyrone-Donegal was a bit more watchable and they got an interview with Ryan McHugh then all is right with the world ... until next week.

Was it ever confirmed what happened Thomas Kane, was he cannibalised by Nibs in the end?

I have to say Mark Sidebottom has aged like a fine wine, the silver fox, one for the mums and anyone with a wandering eye

From what I have heard I wouldn't be too sure on that

Not much in the game throughout but Derry had a 10 minute spell where if they had a couple of 2 footed forwards they could have got a lead. Plenty of talent on show and interesting to see who will kick on

Tyrone be looking a reasonable return out of this squad. Rafferty, Daly, Hughes, O'Neill, McCullagh, McElholm, Potter, O'Hare, McAneney would be the obvious players that would offer something to the Senior panel.

Tyrone's McElholm and O'Hare look like very good indeed. They look to have 5 or 6 that will make the cut at senior.  That's a very good Derry side too. Forbes, McEldowney and McGuckian will be top players for Derry for years to come. That was a very even Ulster championship with very little between the top 4 sides. Monaghan will be a coming force in next few years too with some top prospects coming through especially Stephen Mooney who put on an exhibition of point scoring against Armagh and Tyrone.

I shouldn't... but anyway

You do realise that in order to pot the ball he has to decide to try it first? The shots aren't bloody mandatory.

Oh FFS lol!! It's obviously a skill to pull off the shots he does but it's a personaility trait to have the willingness and the balls to pull them off on the biggest stage possible. It's a personality trait to be willing to take risks with long pots where other players with as much/more capability, would rather play safe. It's a personality trait to try to break tension in the room/in the crowd by doing something that gets a laugh, where other players cannot deal with any distractions.

It would make sense for Ben Cullen to rejoin this group now. He wasnt eligible last night, once he came on against Donegal as sub last Sunday. Tyrone dont play again until after the U20s is complete. Would be a serious addition to this panel of players

Does he start? O'Hare Daly Rafferty are nailed on and I wouldn't be completely confident on him taking Brolly's place. Maybe take Devlin's place at Wing Forward.

As an aside, and not directing this specifically at you, people can't simultaneously complain that they want to watch Ronnie but bemoan the perceived lack of new talent in the game.

Does it have to be one or the other though? You can still enjoy watching Ronnie (despite him being a dick) but also like to see new talent coming through. I also wouldn't describe 3 of the 4 semi finalists as new talent as such. And with Jones it remains to be seen whether he can kick on whatever happens in this tournament. He has been a pro for 14 years now and made little impact.

Agreed on Trump. You can call a lot of the players risk averse but to say Trump plays like that is ridiculous. He would probably have won a lot more if he was a little less mercurial.
