Just watched that fantastic hurling catch in the cricket World Cup.  Would remind you of the shared skills between the games..

With a name like Stokes he's bound to have some Irish blood on him....straight out of the halting site!

It is being hailed by the English media as the catch of the century but catches like that by N.Zealand cricketer Ben Stokes are very common in hurling. I don't think Stokes would have the discipline to play the game.

FFS, There was no fullback flailing at him at the same time.

Good, but not great.

Exactly.

You would think anyone with decent athletic ability would make it

For a cripple he is alright. Doesn't need to run just gets the ball and smashes his points over from anywhere lol. Sure he is too cool to run anyway

Does the hardness of a cricket ball not make it harder to  catch? Serious question.

The hardness, no. The gloss on it perhaps.

Would it not be more dense? Yes the gloss would be a factor also

Not sure if it is that much more dense, Density in itself isnt really so much a factor, unless it was at a much higher speed where it could damage your hand
But it is heavier i believe so yes that would make it a little more difficult also think its slightly larger diameter which coupled with the roughness would be the biggest factors

I think the hardness that the poster is talking about is really greater rigidity (the amount of give) which I think would also make it a little more difficult but not that much.

A cricket ball is heavier and harder so I would imagine comes harder and quicker through the air.  Admittedly, some dude waving a stick at your arm / face isn't going to make things easy!
