Quote from: Saffron71 on May 05, 2025, 08:52:28 PMI'm hearing that a number of clubs particularly in Div 2 have lost their home games due to no referee.  I think this was maybe in the fine print previously but has never been enforced.

Always enforced, but clubs put refs out just to cover their backs and they probably did a few games so they didn't lose home games.

I suppose it gives you an idea how lacking we are for people doing it

So is there no quota that has to be hit - do a couple of games, even at like of U16, and box ticked?

Not really, ref's are given notifications for games via a server and it obviously records the no's as well as the yes's .. So there is a tally that will show how many times a ref refusing a game, for whatever reason, so if they are only doing 2 or three games then they are only doing it to keep the club home games.. So the club should lose its home games as they are not fulfilling their end of the deal.

This has always been the case, I can remember this going back 30 odd years, its only fair that clubs look to encourage  members to take up the whistle

Quote from: shawshank on May 06, 2025, 10:48:10 AMI don't think the 50m penalty was there, thats more accurately what I think is a ballox

Yeah it was just 13m

Quote from: shawshank on May 06, 2025, 09:47:20 AMThe 4m protection on the player who catches a kickout is some bollox of a rule.
And I agree completely on the tackle. One ref thinks the game is basketball, the other lets contact occur.
You only have to look at Sundays Connacht final. Watch the tackles the refs punished in the first 15 minutes of the game compared to what he permitted as tackles the last ten minutes, a contradiction in one game.

That rule was there from the start of the Mark rule...

Quote from: Mad Mentor on May 06, 2025, 08:49:32 AMIf it's such a contentious issue (hurling fan here really), why has the tackle never been defined? I would have thought this would be the most logical approach. I have not seen any proposals anywhere of what it should look like, or moves to define it. It's a bit like banning drink driving but not defining an alcohol level.
What would be a good wording that would work?

That's the thing, it would open up a whole can or worms, by the rule book the only physical tackle allowed is the shoulder to shoulder tackle, everything else with regards to contact to the player is a foul!

What would people feel would be 'acceptable' with regards to the tackle.. Be interesting to know

Quote from: JimStynes on May 04, 2025, 11:00:32 PMEnded up doing Belfast today. Last minute job. So much easier in perfect running conditions than the heat of London last week! Probably not the best idea doing 2 marathons in 7 days but I ran much better today thankfully.

Belfast could turn that into a good marathon if they made a few tweaks. There was hardly any toilets at the start line, mile markers were missing at some points, drink stations were tiny etc. Support was brilliant though. That point at the Ormeau road is like the Tour de France with people lined both sides scream support. Really enjoyed that run today!

Yeah a few tweaks and it could be a lot better, certainly the toilet situation needs addressed, not that I needed it but they were few and far between along the route..

Need to address the relay teams, they should have a bay that they run into, away from the road, like a pit area, but as they merge into the race it needs to be on a bigger patch of road as the feckers are like antelopes dashing through the crowd..

Another one, and I'm sure they do it elsewhere is you have your estimated time and that's your zone to start in, they did in Amsterdam when I was there, cuts out the, what felt like walkers in the first mile or two of the race.

Too many narrow parts through parks also, which clogged up things and even seen some fallers, the energy sapping 18 stage hill needs to go lol!

The last thing would be to construct a viewing platform at the finish line as many people couldn't see their loved ones crossing the line at the end, as it was ten deep.

Other than that it's grand lol!

Yes the Ormeau road was like a tour de France stage! Looking back that final split on times was quick lol..

Well supported in most places, I suppose the weather made it, and if London was warmer than that then it would be sapping your energy..

Quote from: on the sideline on May 02, 2025, 04:26:36 PMSee with the forward mark, does the player who caught the mark have to take the free himself after they have played on but referee has deemed no advantage accrued and brings it back to the original mark position?

Back in February we were told by Ulster Council official and referees that if ref decided no advantage had come of the mark after playing on, that anyone could then take the free from the original mark position. I thought this was still the case, but was told otherwise last night.

Look pal, just do whatever the ref tells you and for the love of God don't question it.

Thats the new rule.

Telling people that for years.. but hey ho
We had a game last night where the referee allowed the oppostion to bounce and go twice. When our captain said to him it has to be a solo he told him to go away

He was wrong, you balls up the solo and go it comes back for a free.. look I did something the other week, we questioned whether it was correct or not and both (one an All Ireland final referee) gave different answers

It will be interesting to see if Lynch follows DeBurca deep into the Waterford defence or if Limerick allocate someone else to stymy DeBurca as he is their main man for me who sets up a lot of their attacking play as well as sweeping up a lot of ball in the defence.
He's ably assisted by Jamie Barron also though, so it will be interesting to see if Limerick give these two lads a bit of attention!

I'd say Gleeson will get more of a run out in that game too
