Laois / Re: The Future for Laois Football
October 28, 2021, 06:12:18 PM
Heard on the laois today podcast, That Paddy Dunne from Rosenallis is gone in as coach for the laois minors with Conor Gorman, the man is after havinga great few years with Rosenallis good to see him taking the next step up into Intercounty coaching. So that's Donie Brennan and Paddy Dunne that's a strong Minor management in my eyes and all in there mid/late 30s. Looking forward to see what they can do now.

Great appointment, Great to see a new man get his foot under the table, Wonder who his backroom team is? hoping this can be the start of something good, He has the intercounty experience won an All Ireland in the minor so ticks all the boxes.

Conor Gorman the new minor manager according to Laois Today. Interesting appointment he has done a good job in Clonaslee.

Wasn't in the 4 names I heard were nominated for job but maybe my info was wrong

Who were the 4 names mentioned or nominated?

Should be Mountmellicks to lose, Just think they'll have too much strength in depth and should win by 5 or 6. Regardless I'd worry for them at senior level compared to Clonaslee, Rosenallis and Courtwood they are an aging team that will struggle at senior level, I can't see them staying up if they do win it,

Will be an even enough game. Didn't see Gearoid Hanrahan on team for Mountmellick is he away?

Park were full value for win yesterday 3 wins on the bounce in Stradbally. Kieran Kelly in fairness has them fairly well drilled and they didn't panic when Kilcruise came back into it towards last 10 minutes. Only a matter of time when they go up to senior ranks a good mix of youth and experience at the moment. Kilcruise had a couple of the na Fianna og players on that minor a final so I imagine they'll be an addition to them in a year or 2.

Think Hanrahan is overseas on Army duty big loss for Mountmellick in final if missing

Portlaoise's subs made the difference and won them the game, Same the last day for O'Dempsey's their subs won them the game against Rosenallis When Rosenallis were the better team. Probably the best three teams in the championship so far in the semis and I would expect Graiguecullen to be too strong for Emo who will be without Pa Kirwin, as far as I know, he's gone in quarantine with the defence forces down in Cork.

Ballyroan Abbey to win it out for me.

As this thread is "The Future for Laois Football" Anyone any word or know what's going on with the Laois minor setup? Has anyone been mentioned or does anyone know of anyone that went for it, seems there taking their time announcing the management team?

Depressing to see the negativey  towards Rosenallis today and overall throughout the year in both hurling and football, They are the only senior dual club in the county, and should possibly be in a county semi final if they took their chances. I don't believe the crap RE were only in 1st 2nd gear. If the ref had any balls today ge should of let the last puck out happen instead of blowing up just after Rosenallis get the goal.

This is a club thats putting it up against the likes of the 2nd favourite team in RE in hurling championship and probably 3rd best team in football Championship O'Dempseys and their only training a quarter of what the non dual clubs are training and still there competing at the highest level. Fair play to the club and management of both sectors.

R.e Minor Managment

I'm a bit baffled by your post and comments made by others to be honest .

We in Laois seem to have an awful habit of being negative and basing our opinions on here say .

Who knows how this year's minor management will do but jeez give them a chance will you !
The man has just been ratified and some have him written off .

Just a few points of  interest

1. Complaints made by his own coaches..
As far as I am aware his coaches from the 15s have followed through with him to minors . Would they really back sombody they didn't believe in ???
I know I wouldn't would you ??

2. Telling lads not to hurl .
Within the team there is hurlers ,rugby players and Soccer  players and  were all accomadated throughout the year . Same can't be said about other years

3. The u15 team were very successful under him and played some very tough competition along the way so aside from coach it's unfair to make little of what the u15 team achieved last year .

It was also noted the panel was  never closed management attended a lot of club games in both A and B competitions and added to the panel throughout the season based on performance at club games  instead of the usual  have trials and close shop .

Whilst I understand everyone  will have a difference of opinion .  It's unfair to write the management off before a ball is kicked an base it on false information .

Looks like Newbie04 is the new account of Mark, Now that he was identified as GAA-Smart...

Both games should be close, Rosenallis vs Portlaoise not on until Monday night in O'Moore Park, Maybe Portlaoise might use 1 or 2 of their intermediate team on Sunday afternoon in the senior.

Clonaslee vs Mountmellick think Mountmellick might have a bit much for Clonaslee in this game but on the other hand, you can never write off Clonaslee.

What's everyone's thought for semi-finals this weekend??

Yeah, it's hard one to call I think it's a very close championship, But just looking at results and will be interesting to see tonight what way Clonaslee and The Rock finish up with Rosenallis having beaten them by 17 points in the earlier round.  Let's see what way results go tonight, And your right Annanough have absolutely nothing to fear at all.
