"There is no doubt if they had two teams in the senior the second one would get to a quarter final maybe more they would beat 8 or more teams that are there."

I suppose Portlaoise second string would want to win the intermediate championship first before you could say that🙄

Great comeback. Fair play. Maybe found out more today than all the league👍🏻

Laois Players drinking. I'd say the county board are delighted with this controversy as it deflects from the real problems in Laois football. Generally over the last 10 years or so the commitment from Laois players has been excellent. They have prepared as well as they could and got a lot out of themselves.

If the county board acted as professionally and shown as much commitment we wouldn't be in the place we are now.

Players are an easy target and generally aren't given the chance to defend themselves.

Just relegate 3 teams every year to intermediate.

I assume "Saint" means St Josephs, and I think we all know what happened the last time they tried to relegate 3 teams in one year.

Good man very helpful input👍🏻
Your input contributed hugely to Stradballys title in 2016, credit where its due

I happen to think all 3 clubs should have played the relegation playoff that year.

I'm not sure how you're comment enhances the discussion.

Try to make some sort of valid or helpful point the next time.

Good man👍🏻

I agree we need less Senior teams.

Why create a new 2nd level?

Just relegate 3 teams every year to intermediate.

I'm not sure if it makes much of a difference overall.

I would dump the Gaels idea.

Create 3 or 4 area teams made up of all clubs bar senior clubs.

All clubs keep there identity and gives every footballer in Laois a chance to play senior football.

Nothing wrong with being a junior or intermediate club.

Anybody at either of the under 21 football games at the weekend? the competition might fill my football void now that the senior is over  ;D  Didn't even realize it had started until I seen the results. Killeshin Crettyard v  St Joseph's-Barrowhouse would have been a right good game id say.
I presume  St Joseph's-Barrowhouse would be strong favorites for this given their recent success?
It was a poor enough affair. Cretty/Kileshin were without Evan Carroll and they also missed a host of chances. Joes/BH were ok and done what they had to do to win it.They also have a gem of a player in Adam Campion. They seemed a bit cockey IMO but have loads of talent coming through....

Definitely not cocky but I would worry that some who have been playing a lot of football over the last year have lost their edge. I think they were lucky that Evan O'Carroll was injured.

There are 2 cameras on every game in omp for this reason and they should be used. With the amount of Stradbally officials in around omp I doubt if it will.

Not sure bout that tony, id say portlaoise are sick. Fair play to strad, great for laois football. Sick of listening to all negative stuff here, anyone with a head for football knows laois usually punch over their weight, although last few years haven't been great. Hopefully this new setup will work out well.

Laois may have punched above their weight in the past but we always had some really good footballers. The point is that the future is not looking good. The last good crop of players are coming to an end. Our performances underage for the last 10yrs has been poor. 'Anyone with a head for football knows that'🙄

Best game of the year, in fact best game of the last few years. Stradbally are not extraordinary but they have great belief and fighting spirit and that can bring you a long way. The loss of Bruno was huge for Portlaoise and but for Cahillane they really had no go to forward. Dillon was very good but I was very disappointed with Craig Rodgers today. I was surprised they didn't have Zack togged out as he probably would have won it for them but it would have been a shame to see Stradbally lose after the way they played.

The goal in the last minute was as good a goal as has been seen anywhere this year but was even better as it left Portlaoise with no time to get back into it. Well referred by Eddie even if he gave a few handy frees to Portlaoise but it didn't deter Stradbally and they fought man for man till the end when they got their just reward. I didn't see any controversial point as has been mentioned above.

Stradbally could have a good run in Leinster if they put their minds to it , hopefully they will. Well done all concerned.

Best game for years???
Most exciting maybe but the general quality of the footballers must be of great concern to the new Laois manager. It was hard to pick out an inter county standard player today.

The future of club football in Laois should be more competitive but we need to start developing quality footballers fast.

Well done Stradbally. Badly needed for Laois football.
Nothing against Portlaoise they've been great champions.
Both St. Josephs and Stradbally now have shown there's more than 1 team in Laois.

One thing that needs to be put right in this county is that every player should have the opertunity to play Senior football if good enough.

This can be done with area teams very easily and I can't understand why it isn't in place already.

I'm not suggesting it's the answer to all problems but it is something that can be done and has a lot of positives to it.

Ideally, relegate teams from senior (how many is debatable) and establish 2,3 or 4 area teams. Allow any team that is not senior to represent an area.

Gives all players a chance to play senior
Creates a bit of interest in the local championship
Strengthens the intermediate grade
Takes pressure off clubs to keep players at small clubs

Sad to see Mick go down so quickly but he lost the dressing room very early on. I think he underestimated the leap to inter county management. I'm not ruling Cunningham in or out for the job but I've seen no evidence in his short term in charge that he offers anything other than put more players behind the ball and hope for the best. Hurling is a different game and club football is miles behind tactically and that's his background. I think grooming a future manager along with the next appointment could be the way to go. Follow that with injecting some life into the underage setup and the club championship and we may start turning things around.

Is this the standard reply when you don't like what's been said.  The U17 grade is been brought in to alleviate the demands on young players as is the rise of age for adult players.  Minor & U16 are on their way out thats national policy the night it was argued in Portlaoise about 3 clubs including Ballyroan were in favor of this been brought in.  It's a tough first year but after that it will be fine.  The county board accommodated the clubs by having a minor championship. Because no matter what you think the U18 is on the way out and that eases fixture congestion as well as the burden on younger players.

I'm only talking about asking minors to play 24hrs after playing All Ireland quarter final.
