GAA Discussion / McGourty Back in Antrim Fold
May 18, 2010, 11:49:23 AM
The 'Big News' today is that Kevin McGourty's back in the Antrim panel ahead of Sunday's Casement decider with Tyrone. Not quite sure what role he'll actually play though....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/northern_ireland/gaelic_games/8688877.stm

The younger brother's already training with the Antrim set-up, but what sort of influence do people think Kevin will have with the panel? Will Bradley be better able to work with him than Gormley could? The lad gets a lot of bad press which I sometimes think is undeserved... but then I learned from a local "Fianna Failer" (aye, they're beginning to exist) that he got dumped out of the party in Down for causing division and trying to take over the show and he's hadda take himself back up the road to Belfast!!!!  :D Like who'd ever have predicted!!!

Saw a cracking debate on TV last night between Ian Paisley jnr and (I think) Jim Alister....... boy do they despise each other. Magnificent stuff. The SFer and SDLP lads also went at each other but not a patch on the other two.

The host couldn't control them at all. Have to say IP Jnr didn't come out of it too bad.

"The Good Lord gave us two ears, one mouth. Use them to that proportion" Ian Paisly Jr to Jim Allistar!  :D

Great quote wasn't it, oul Ian was firing on all cylinders!  :D

That still leaves Castlewellan and Leitrim stuggling at the bottom, if I'm right? Four matches... no wins. Not looking too good. Wouldn't it be awful if Castlewellan went down.... :O

Anyone hear the Down Minor Championship draws from earlier?

QuoteMinor Football Championship Draw
  Date : 27/04/2010 21:47

Down County Chairman Seamas Walsh, in the presence of a number of club and County Board representatives, presided over the Minor Football Championship draw tonight in the County Offices in Castlewellan.

Current champions Kilcoo can look forward to meeting Newry Bosco in their opening round game in Newry. This game is a potential banana skin for the Magpies and Newry is never an easy place to go to at the best of times.

Other ties which will be eagerly anticipated include local derbies Attical v Longstone and Loughinisland v Cill Darach.

Last year's beaten finalists St Peter's Warrenpoint must make the trip to Ballymartin to play the Lillywhites in what promises to be a close encounter whilst Burren travel to St Paul's Hollywood for their first round match.

Tá muid ag súil go mór le craobh sultmhar arís i mbliaina. Bí cinnte go dtugann tú neart tacaíochta do d'fhoireann!!

the list of traitors in the 26 counties just continues to grow. its unstoppable! i find it hard to think of anyone in public office who isn't a traitor, the whole place is a den of unscrupulous treacherous b**tards >:(
what the f**k you on about were not the ones paying tax into the royal exchequer!

And you think Nationalists here are paying into the royal exchequer as a matter of choice then? Wise up, we're paying into the royal exchequer because we were f*cked over by your so-called 'war of independence'.

We usually do a session on items related to the training-topic that make 'the news' or that people (in general) are (or should be) familiar with.  For example, in environmental training we might ask the attendees to split up into three groups to identify environmental issues of significance: (a) globally, (b) nationally and (c) locally.  Each group would then report back and the trainer documents answers on a flip chart for each group - the report-back is thrown open for everyone to comment.  Usually we leave the local bit until last and it usually gets everyone involved.

Mad craic. There'll be no drop off at your training sessions! LOL

Aye coverage of GAA has always been piss poor on BBC. Loads of coverage of soccer matches with only a few hundred spectators there and a Ulster semi or something with several thousand gets treated the same. But its surprising its taking him so long to blast them over it. You'd wonder why it's only last year he put up the comments on the internet when the BBC's coverage has been woeful for years. Still, good for him, and hope they get nailed by the employment tribunal over it.

I was sitting at the top of the steps entering the lower Cusack and a few boys tried to bring pints in and were quickly ran by the stewards , In saying that two balloons were allowed down to their seats and they were just about able to walk . I think one of the same boys then proceeded to get sick in his seat . Nightmare for those around them especially those with kids .

Aye, same thing happened near me. Two alco Armagh boys say down couple of rows in front and got sick. Almost as bad as the sickening result. Had good seats though, 310. Bit more close to midfield would have been perfect. Dan Gordon's not at the races though, thought Conor Laverty did well, despite size and all that.

I didn't even notice that actually, not that it matters much though. I see there's a typical SF/SDLP debate started in the room already tho, that didn't take long! What was the craic with the guy in Afghanistan though? That came across wile!

He must have f*** all to write about. Seriously. If they're gonna do that, its the loonies running the asylum. Agree with mid-Louth - wrecking trophies because of the pioneer brigade is complete madness!

Think the point might have been soccer and rugby playing there at all. Cork pretty much done a u-turn at the congress in Down didn't they?! Permanent possibility of using Croker, bit excessive (not to repoen an old debate).  :P

Anyone thinkin that a Down v Armagh derby in a final isn't important is in dreamworld. Thought of losing to Armagh would put wee James crazy... well even more crazy!  :)
I'd say we'll win with a few points to spare.
