Ros up a 1pt, we had goal disallowed and hit post to go 9 up, hit loads of wides, need to be more accurate second half but if we had carrabine, o Connor and gaughan we would of destroyed this roscommon team , Red og with 2-1 for us

Sligo are utterly pathetic. The problem is so are we on the evidence of that half. One of the worst halves of football I've seen in a long time. They're all young lads but either team is going to get well beaten next weekend, the amount of wides and basic errors in perfect conditions is something to behold.

Also, we're missing at least three of our best players from this group too so whatever about your loses, we have just as many.
Reality is both teams are missing numerous players because of unavailability, injury and Leaving Cert. Sligo missing 4 due to senior and 3 other starters due to Leaving Cert. Im sure Ross are similarly affected. Stronger counties will have better replacements. A once good competition has been destroyed by GAA officialdom.

This match could not have been more set up for Roscommon, having Sligo Seniors playing the day after and Roscommon seniors having the weekend off. So either way we were screwed. All im looking for is being competitive, we have some great players coming through but missing Liam Gaughan, Carrabine, O Connor who have excelled already for us at senior and will test Galway are huge losses to the u20. It will be interesting to see how we get on, because with Red Og, Marren, Gorman etc.. theres always a chance.

What impact does the seniors fixtures have on the U-20 game?

Rule brought in last year to combat 'burn out' which states a player cannot play under 20 if he has played senior championship in the same year. This rules out 3 Sligo players, Liam Gaughan, Paddy O'Connor and Sean Carribine. Also unlikely that the keeper will not play as he is sub keeper for the senior team the following day. Absolute joke of a ruling.

Can't you play for the U20s and still be a sub keeper for the seniors?

I think that should be acceptable. However senior manager doesn't. Other players on the senior panel u20's are having difficulty getting access to. Rule is a joke and need to be repealed.

Sligo play Roscommon in the under 20's this weekend without their 3 best players (and probably their keeper) due to this crazy rule that under 20 players who play senior championship cannot play under 20. Again another rule implemented by GAA authorities that has an negative impact on the weaker counties. Don't think any Roscommon under 20 players lined out last weekend although the Lennon lad is injured. This 2 teams played out a very tight game at minor level with Roscommon coming from behind to win by a point. Likely to be a more comfortable victory for the Rossies at the weekend due to Sligo missing players.

Any chance Sligo might bate Galway?
Every chance
Kevin Walsh has a history of it

A history of what? In fairness he actually managed Sligo to beat Galway once.

History of losing games his teams were hot favourites to win i presume. Off the top of my head.

Honestly,  some awful made up rubbish been posted here. This high stool type narrative about how Aido picks the team etc is the biggest load of crap ever to do the rounds, absolutely no basis for it whatsoever.  And now our Rossie friend here who is totally obsessed with all things mayo is trying to make out hes privy to information regarding the substitution of Alan Freeman in 13 final.

Will ya just shtop for the love of gawd.
From my recollection of the 13 final Freeman was doing quite well. Conroy didn't make much of an impact as a sub.

Things were very frosty between Horan and Freeman in Coca-Cola (where they both worked) afterwards.

I saw that  Eamonn O Hara claimed the referee favored Castlebar in their recent encounter. Funny I talked to other people who were at the game who said the exact opposite

Was at the game and i thought it was refereed fairly well. There was a few decisions to either side that were questionable. Castlebar got away with some cynical fouling, dragging support players down (which i think is what he was referring to) but that apart ref did ok.

Why is the standard so poor in Sligo club, honestly? Even Ballymote (a town club that should never be at Junior in any county in the first place) made tough work of a Kilglass side that were hammered by a B team in the county final until the late goal. At club it's very possible for a well coached group of lads to win Connachts and AIs, even from small counties. Even the Sligo county teams seem much more competitive than their club representatives. It's a bit of a mystery. Mitchels are so punch drunk from continuous football now you'd hope that Tourlestrane could give them a proper go.
The present club scene is poor enough alright but it was better in the past, Tourlestrane might well be some way ahead of the rest but I'm not sure their current team would match up to their team of a decade ago, O'Hara, Durkin, McGowan et al. Most other teams certainly wouldn't. Harps and Curry both reached provincial finals in the noughties and defeated notable opposition in that time, and generally the teams were competitive in Connacht. Since Harps were flattened by Brigid's in 2010 it largely hasn't been the case.
I would agree with you to a certain extent. There were better individual players in the Tourlestrane team of 10 years ago because of the 3 lads mentioned but the current team are much more balanced and there is also a good bench which wouldn't have been the case back then.

Congrats to the Rossies on here even Syferus who wasn't  feeling too confident before the game.

Galway fans saw the Kevin Walsh Sligo fans were critical of after 2010 final. Overconfident, arrogant even. Again didn't play defensively when against a gale force wind in the first half and didn't react in time to close down the space in front of the full forward line. Roscommon were excellent. Enda smyth produced the performance of the year. Their defence looked shaky at times but managed not to concede a goal. Some future ahead for them if they can keep these lads on board and get some of injured and other players back.

Wonder how Gay Sheering is feeling now?

Brilliant start for Roscommon. Similarities with 2010, Walsh has not learnt
