I'm not sure I'm in agreement with how the 5 seconds thing actually works at the minute.
I think it should be the period of time the ref uses to see if an advantage presents itself. If it does then it's play on. Regardless of whether it is squandered or not.

Using your example there, I wouldn't be looking to see if a team are better off after 5 seconds but indeed if they were better off at any time during the 5 seconds.

The logic is that you don't get 2 attempts at a shot for a foul. You get 1.

That can be a free or let the play continue if the opportunity is deemed by the ref to be better than the original free.

A free is not a guaranteed score. If you don't take advantage of it then tough. The same should apply to shots that are deemed to be "better than the free".

There is an advantage if he misses in the 5 seconds. He just didn't take it.

That's a good point.
It also reinforces my belief that the rule is wrong in that if you get an opportunity to shoot from a more advantageous position then you should not get a free regardless of the outcome.
It should be one or the other.

Quote from: Duine Inteacht Eile on May 11, 2024, 06:52:02 PMYes, they should just suspend him for a club league game in the middle of June for that.
Baffling logic.
It was a red card offence all day and he deserves to miss the next game at least for it.
Unless you were there.. I'm going by TV footage
The officials who consulted and decided that he deserved a red were there.
The Roscommon players who reacted like he was out of order were there.
I imagine the vast majority of people who viewed the footage you did would be satisfied that there was a strike or an attempted strike.
But, you are from his club so you see it differently.

Quote from: burdizzo on May 10, 2024, 10:57:16 PMNo, I'm drawing a line between periods of large-scale immigration. Simple as that. You're trying to put words in my mouth. You may want to engage in semantics, but my point was that massive demographic change is not good for the host society in the long run.
You're not so bad at it yourself, Mr Plantation.

It's a free kick from the hands.

You don't seem happy to stand corrected, if I'm honest.

Quote from: seafoid on April 28, 2024, 09:28:22 PMWhy is the final between the 2 d2 teams? Hmmmn.

Because this is Ulster, where every team in the province has contested the final at least once  in the last twenty years.
Every game is a lottery.
Its why it the best championship in the land.
You might have a point but there's no need to tell lies.

There appear to be no certainties so if not a lottery its certainly unpredictable.
There are certainties. Antrim & Fermanagh are going to lose. Down extremely likely to as well.

You could have picked 4 out of 9 to win it. 2 of those are in the final.

Pedantic posts of the week go to....  8)
It's a completely boring and untrue narrative though.
The Leinster final of 2023 had 2 Division 2 teams in it. They felt no need to use that fact to big themselves up. We, in Ulster, do. Our football can be fcukin dreadful too, and there's plenty of evidence this weekend.

Quote from: Norm-Peterson on April 28, 2024, 05:53:45 PMCeltic park seems to be lucky for Donegal, maybe because of the towns Tyrconnell history. I notice there is a street down the road from it called Tyrconnell street.

I always thought that Tir Connail was Donegal but not including the Inis Eoghain peninsula (which includes Derry City) Tir Connail & Inis Eoghain combined create Contae DĂșn na nGall. Is this correct??
Yes
