Micko "a bluffer", claims Parkinson

Wicklow manager Mick O'Dwyer
19 May 2010

Colm Parkinson has described his former Laois manager Mick O'Dwyer as "a bluffer".

The Portlaoise native, who is now playing his club football in Dublin with Parnells, also claimed O'Dwyer is "an awful man manager", despite him being widely recognised as the most successful manager in the GAA and having guided Laois to their first Leinster title in 57 years in 2003 when Parkinson was a key figure.

Speaking in a radio interview before the Waterville maestro steered Wicklow to victory over Carlow in last Sunday's Leinster SFC opener, Parkinson said: "Everyone will think Micko will have a trick up a sleeve, but I can tell you now that Micko will have nothing up his sleeve. He's an absolute bluffer.

"He's an awful man manager. He has favourites. He could pass by subs and not even know them. He'd have three or four favourites and that's it."

Parkinson did acknowledge, however, that O'Dwyer ensured all the best players were playing with the county. "Even in Laois now you could pick 15 players who are as good if not better than the Laois players playing in the championship, who aren't playing. If Micko was over Laois, everyone would be playing."

But Parkinson went on to say that while O'Dwyer instils his team with confidence, there isn't anything more involved. "The teams you're playing know you've Micko as your manager and think that he's going to have something special. But he doesn't give you anything. He's a bluffer, I'm telling you now."

;D  ;D

If only our Gov could bluff like Micko, we'd be living like the arabs now  ;D

GAA Discussion / GPA Commission new report
February 26, 2010, 04:59:12 PM
http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-football/gpa-to-probe-games-value-2080625.html

I see the GPA is to commission a report into the ecomonic value of the intercounty player GAA in Ireland, no doubt some highly paid consultants will be paid a shed load to prepare this report to support their call for pay for play player grants.

Good to see that the money they getting from GAA is been used for good causes and not just to pay Dessie.

General discussion / Worst Present Ever
November 24, 2009, 10:19:19 AM
Be it a christmas, birthday or whatever. We've all had them or heard of them.

Father-in-law bought the MIL a washing line a number of years back and hasn't bought a present since. He's a practical man and will tell you that nothing else has been needed since!

At college, I had a flatmate from Offaly. We graduated and where all working as trainee accountants in different firms around Dublin. This lad got a big square, maroon leather briefcase (with all the pockets inside) as a graduation present. He was thrilled with it but it lay under the bed for about a year before he moved out. It quickly dawned on him that very few bar the firms partner actually uses these breifcases, espically not a trainee! I often wondered if he ever used.

Any petrol heads out there?

Have a chance to buy a BMW X5, 2005 Sport model with all the extras. Lovely looking yoke, price very good and can prob get it even cheaper.

However, the one thing holding me back, and its a big one, is that its a 3L petrol model. Automatic to boot.

Would the running costs take the value out of the intial purchase. Tax is almost €1300 a year and the seller sayd that his current reading on MPG is 23 but he does a fair bit of urban driving which drags it down.

Is it madness to even consider it?

General discussion / Brillant Scam

Not sure if its an urban myth or not but brillant if true!! Seen it on another forum.....

Outside Bristol Zoo is the car park, with spaces for 150 cars and 8
coaches. It has been manned 6 days a week for 23 years by the same
charming and very polite car park attendant with the ticket machine. The
charges are £1 per car and £5 per coach.

On Monday 1 June, he did not turn up for work. Bristol Zoo management
phoned Bristol City Council to ask them to send a replacement parking
attendant.

The Council said "That car park is your responsibility." The Zoo said "The
attendant was employed by the City Council... wasn't he?" The Council said
"What attendant?"

Gone missing from his home is a man who has been taking daily the car park
fees amounting to about £400 per day for the last 23 years...!

Anyone heading to his shows in the London O2?

Seen on Breakfast tv that the latest speculation is that he isn't rehearsing for them and his dancers, crew etc are at it everyday with no sign of him but he has been out abd about sending big. Also worries that his health won't hold up to 40 nights if he hasn't prepared for it.

Plus his publicist is suing him for $40m of the $400m he is supposedly earning as she hasn't been paid the agreed fee for setting up the tour.

When it was announced I was thinking it would all end in tears, court cases and no-shows after his last public singing performance.

At 50, has he taken on too much?

General discussion / BIRDS
April 20, 2009, 04:42:12 PM
They are full of shit. The winged version.

Lovely day yesterday, cut the grass, took the garden furniture out etc etc.

Went out front and the two cars where parked on the drive as normal, side by side. Both where covered in bird shite though, and I mean covered. My car had about 40 marks on it, fresh and stinking. On roof, bonnet and one side.

Wife's car had same, on the side, roof, back, that was alongside mine and it stunk as well. Well over 40 markings as well, not that I counted.

The drive way between cars was covered as well but nowhere else.

How the frig did that happen? Multiple birds or one fecker with severe diarrhea.

Cost me €14 to get them washed as well!

Anyone see Girls of the Playboy Mansion on E! on Sunday Night.

When will poor old Hugh Hefner catch a break? If its bad enough one girlfriend leaving but all three in a week? The poor old devil must be gutted, particularly at his stage in life.  :'(

Although he appears that he has since linked up with a set of twins. It'll never last.

Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

Have a night out in Knock (party for friend from area). A few of us looking to stay. Had booked the Knock House but have been advised that we could be locked out, it has no bar for a few warm ups and will be full of nuns. The other hotel, Belmont is closed till summer.

Any suggestions? Is Claremorris or Kiltamagh an option to get back to from Knock in the wee hours?

Cheers

GAA Discussion / Gov/Lottery Sports
January 28, 2009, 05:08:26 PM
The Gov today has said that no 2009 allocations for Sports capital grants will take place. Outstanding approved grants will be paid from 2008.

Was this money not taken from the National Lottery surplus? If so, where is it going?

This will have alot of affects for club developments across all sports and in particular the GAA. Even though its not a good time to develop or raise funds, alot of clubs would have been counting on a hand down for smaller projects. Plus this is further money take out of the ecomony that would have kept people in jobs.

I could see a cut coming in funding but if this is Lottery funds where is the money now going?

General discussion / Garden Decking
June 30, 2008, 07:51:48 PM
Looking to get a bit of Garden decking down in the garden.

Not a big space, about 160-170sq ft. Waiting on a few quotes to come back.

Does anyone konw what it should cost and what type of wood is best? Anyone know any suppliers on North East.

Have someone to lay it and do some other work on graden with it.
