General discussion / Soccer (and Retro) Jerseys
September 24, 2023, 01:52:31 AM
I've a huge interest in Retro jerseys and have accumulated a fair fee at this stage

Just wondering does anyone else and what Geansais are peoples favourites here?!

GAA refs are on the whole arguably on the whole much smaller and thinner than the average man

They all seem like they've never played and simply went down the ref route

Appreciate it takes players or ex players to stick the hand up and do it but some of the level of reffing on the national level is atrocious

That overcarrying call on O Hanlon etc....BIZARRE decisions again and again by wee Priesty, traffic wardens

WTF

General discussion / Covid...Travel issue
June 08, 2022, 11:28:24 AM
Men,

I couldn't get vaccines for medical reasons. That may change in the next year but at present I still can't.

I've an opportunity of trip to Spain in the coming weeks

I hear you can travel with a negative PCR within 72 hours

Does anyone know if this is the case, if so where I can get a PCR, how much it costs and do they provide a certificate and all you need?

Further, what about travelling back from Spain to Belfast ?

Do you need to do the same again in Spain? Only a 3 night trip and don't know if possible or worth it

Flying from and back to Belfast on an Irish passport

I tried online but it's as clear as mud

Thanks

I know there's a similar thread re USA but anyway....

If you've hit 30 what's the story with securing a VISA?

Would you recommend it? Steady job and house but woman (under 30 and not married) busting to go for a year next year (at least, possibly life).

Both professionals.

Know few boys out there but not too many. Would miss family and club and seriously concerned about leaving secure (v good) employment and renting house out but never did it before and a total change to a warmer climate and different way of life is appealing when you think the alternative is going in and out of town to work for rest of my life without taking a chance. Would say could easily get in with football team and have a good life. Lack of security concerns me though.

What about the VISA and what are people's thoughts?

Anyone see this on Setanta Freeview?

Watched 2 of the episodes. First Followed Barry Kelly the Westmeath Hurling Referee and 2nd followed Allain Rolland the Rugby Referee.

Both were miked up during matches so you could hear what they said to players-- Kelly was brilliant, chatting away to players and slagging them etc--fantastic refereeing I thought--nothing like the shite we get (a lot of the time) in club games.

Rolland was top class too--chatting away to players--all players knew both men knew what they were on about and didn't really answer back. Absolutely fantastic show.

My view is that in local gaa some refs can defo favour some teams over another. You don't know what refs are thinking etc--in this programme the Ref's communication was fantastic.

Vital game for Antrim. Anything less that a win and promotion to Div 2 is gone.

If play like we did in last 2 weeks we'll get nothing. But this game's at home and we usually win at home so there's hope!

Hopefully get a bit of a crowd and some noise

Massive game for the Saffrons on Sunday. We need the win more than Longford do.

A loss and we're out of the promotion race.

We'd need to lift it 100% from our 'performance' v Roscommon last weekend.

Last year we were Div 2 and Longford in Div 4. Now Longford are big favourites on Sunday.

Hope more make an effort to travel than usual--soul destroying playing in an eerie silence. Where are the bandwagoners from Clones 09?

RTE Drama Series on Sunday Nights set in a Dublin Restaurant on Camden St

Now nearing the end of the 4th Series

Am i the only one who actually watches this?

I think it's great--what about Jo Jo going off the rails?

1. Watching the Sunday Game here and the GAA Kit issue reached a new low today. An All Ireland Camogie final and both teams, Galway and Wexford, were wearing virtually the same jerseys--both Maroon/Purple --difficult for players, referees and paying/TV viewing spectators to differentiate between the 2 teams. Reminded me of the Mayo/Kerry football final of a few years ago and i'm sure countless County Finals/league games up and down the country. I know we're an amateur organization but it doesnt take much forward planning and foresight to organize an away strip for a team when there's a clash--especially in the All Ireland Final.

2. The sound system in Croke Park is awful when the Captains/President are making their speeches. RTE leave the camera's to pick up the speeches but it's nearly impossible to understand what they're saying. With all the money floating about Croke Park you think they'd spend a couple of grand and fix this. Again i know we're amateur but with the stadium we have you think we could sort out a decent microphone and speakers!

Water is leaking through my ceiling in my living room that is directly below my bathroom. I noticed it for the first time earlier and checked the pipes in the bathroom above but couldnt find any leak/hole in pipes. The leaking then stopped but started once more as soon as our heating came on. I turned the heating off and the leaking stopped after about 5-10mins.

The leaking at worst was about one drop every 2/3 seconds and i'm now worried about it coming on again, getting worse and the ceiling coming through. It's leaking through a crack thats obviouly a weak point in the ceiling.

Obviously i'll need to get a plumber out but does anyone know what the story is with it happening whe the heating is on?
How much would it cost to fix roughly? I'm in Belfast btw

General discussion / Ashley Cole shoots student
February 27, 2011, 11:35:26 AM
Is there nothing this clown Cashley wont do --first he cheats on Cheryl, now he shoots a work placement student from 5 feet away

What a f**king clown --does a lot of 'larking around' first sending photos of himself, now shooting students.

His own mother couldnt like him

General discussion / Hamstring Injury Treatment
October 18, 2009, 08:49:33 PM
Has anyone here ever done their hamstring?

How do you treat it?

I was running out for a ball yesterday and my hamstring just pulled --i looked like a sprinter just pulling up

I've never down this before and am still in serious pain simply walking and can hardly bend down or do anything.

Ive been iceing it on and off today but went out last night when i should have probably stayed in and stayed off it and am worried i may have done even more damage!

I want to get back playin asap but dont know how long this will last or whether it will now be a constant recurring problem like Ryan Giggs has.

How long does it take to recover? What should i do to ensure i recover asap? Im up and down flights of stairs all day at work and am worried about doin further damage there as today i can only manage to go up and down the stairs in the house sideways like a crab here in pain.

Any help appreciated!

General discussion / Is Setanta Sports ruining Soccer?
September 10, 2008, 10:26:22 PM
I hate the way Setanta have bought off all the competition and have all the International games bar Ireland. I only have Setanta Ireland and hate that i cant choose what to watch. Would've liked to watch the England game or even Norn Iron after watchin Ireland. I had to make do with the 2nd half of the Scotland/Iceland game on Setanta Ireland as its the only channel i have.

For me its ruining peoples enjoyment of watching soccer at home and forcing people to the pub--the same was as TV3 did with the GAA championship matches this season.

Setanta's sports programmes are badly presented with stupid pundits with English accents talking about how well "we" played tonight. RTE took the hand out of their money grabbing ways with a magic Apres Match tonight.

I predict that Derry will be beaten by Donegal on Sunday and to bow out in the first couple of rounds in the Qualifiers

I dont think the favourites tag will sit well with them and think they will collapse a la Monaghan on Sunday past and Donegal last year after their league win

Its very difficult for a team to have  a good league campaign and carry it through to the championship--unless you are Tyrone (with a massive squad a la 2003-5) or Kerry who now have to beat Clare to get back to a provincial final and be in the last 12

Derry are still too reliant on one man a la Monaghan and Tommy Freeman

Hope its not the case, but feel it will be a collapse for Derry and will lump any spare euro i have on Donegal this sunday
