Thoroughly underwhelming

All the better. Imagine what it would be like if someone English had won something of note.

Just the winner of the Green jersey in the Tour de France and the World Champion cyclist 2011.  By next year he should have won more tour stages than any other cyclist and will probably be the Olympic champion.

That's alot of should's and probably's. Will he be the next Neil Armstrong then?

He would need ET in his front basket for that.

Hopefully he improves his overall finish position next year in the TDF though.  I saw a Sky Sports News special on him the other week, stating he was the 'fastest man on two wheels, fact' (take it they don't rate the motorbikers) - but surely Chris Hoy is faster than him.

Merckx has 34, so Cav has a few years to wait yet. He's utterly dominant in his sport and fully deserving of the win.

Cav's speed comes from his own body, a motorcyclist's comes from the engine. Unlikely to significantly improve overall position, nor is he likely to care. His job and his target is to win sprint finishes. The final sprint in a Tour stage usually unfolds in the last 300 metres or so - not Hoy's area.
