GAA Discussion / Your Club League Set-up
October 20, 2011, 10:35:48 PM
What way does your county leagues operate? Bit of debate on the Armagh GAA forum about changing the current setup of four divisions to either a 3-tier or a 5-tier league.

The main argument seems to surround the possibility of mismatches i.e. this year Tullysaran (a Division outfit II) played in the Junior and were beat by Eire Og of Division IV. Had Eire Og not been promoted to Division III, but still won the JFC (Which they did) and had Culloville not won the IFC this year; then there would have been the possibility of a Division I team playing a Division IV team in the IFC next year.

Have any other counties choped and changed and what seems to be the most successful way of running things?

GAA Discussion / GAA Council Facilities
December 09, 2010, 04:18:26 PM
Just wondering what GAA facilities the different council areas in the north provide, if any? I ask because afaik my council area provides none - is this normal? (for a council area of 90,000, roughly half & half religiously).

General discussion / "Protestant Culture"
June 24, 2009, 10:18:29 AM
I see Peter the punt wants SF to be more tolerant of Protestant culture....? What exactly is this?  ???

By this does he mean Orangeism? And if so since when did Orangeism become the sole representation of "Protestant" culture. I know the DUP are trying to boost support among their bigot grassroot support but they cannot be serious. Anytime the slightest bit of criticism is directed at the OO, it is seen as sectarian intolerance towards Protestantism (begars belief considering plenty of Protestants wouldn't go near the OO with a bargepole!) Why can the DUP not at least attempt to address the issues within the OO, rather than constantly going on the offensive.

Just out of curiousity, how could a nationalist, such as myself be more tolerant considering the following:

- Like thousands of others I put up with the France bunting, Union Jacks and NI flags put up in my town centre every June, facilitated by Craigavon Council and the local PSNI. Lurgan is 50/50 and despite the town centre being a neutral area it is still bedecked in red, white and blue til it rots. ::)

- I avoid the town centre (like the plague) anytime a parade is on, instead chosing other places to socialise/shop. Also be sure not to wear any GAA gear that evening, should I come across the band members/supporters before the event takes place.

- Likewise when travelling through the idyllic towns/villages of mid-Ulster, go out of my way and change my route whenever a parade is on.

- I try to book my holidays around the 11th/12th July...like the majority of right-minded people in the north.

Any other suggestions as to what I can do to be more tolerant?

Brave few contenders for this title alright. I'd narrow it down however to someone from the following: Culchies, mountain men, most of the tyrone posters and ones that live near the lough..get the odd head-the-ball from the towns but by and large the townies are a refined dignified bunch.

I'm sure some of you have used this before...I'm just after sending an online gift certificate as an early Christmas present; you select the amount, enter your card details and send to the person's email: hey presto. I sent a text to the person telling them to check their emails there now but they haven't recieved it. It says that its an immediate service but the status of the gift says "not sent yet". I've trawled the help pages and can't for the world of me find out to get the thing sent!

Ok, been with the woman almost a year now and the head is melted. Its a long distance thing, has been since last june but now i really want out. Seems easy enough but there are complications. As i am a student and she no longer is I am constantly bombarded with temptation, so much so that I've been playing the field for quite a while now..feel terrible for doing it but it still doesn't stop me. I don't wanna hurt the girl and the fact that the feelings she has for me aren't reciprocated doesn't help. You couldn't meet a more lovely girl but i just feel the spark is well and truly gone in our relationship. I have also met another girl who I have more or less been seeing the last two weeks behind her back. Essentially what I want is to be single again but I don't want to hurt my girlfiends feelings. I don't know whether to end it completely/go on a "break"/tell her the whole truth/some of the truth..I feel so spineless in all this with all the lying i'm doing..posting this on this board will be hit or miss but i guess it just shows how wrecked my head is.
