Depends on who "we" are!
If we're dyed in the wool pure "Gales" well be immersed in Club activities.
If we're just County team supporters ( other than D or KY) our seasons ended weeks ago.
If we're all sports followers who only get into "Gah" for the height of the season we'll have loads of soccer, rugby, golf etc to follow from th'oul armchair.
If we're none of the above life will continue as  usual.

The club league has just ended in Armagh.

Might be very few games left for some teams.

PS. Congrats Tonto!

Club snobs are nearly as bad as hurling snobs! Plenty of legitimate reasons why someone doesn't follow a club.

So someone following the game at grass roots level is now labelled as a snob. That's a bit of an irony, I would have thought that would apply to the lads following the big time stuff.

Not at all. I follow both myself. It's the ones who take swipes at those who don't follow club football I'm talking about. See below.

i think club more enjoyable as its less predictable and maybe harder to win the club all ireland than intercounty but maybe these superclubs are making club championships predictable too. rte should be promoting club game more maybe showing 3 games over the weekend would be good idea could have some friday night games on too.

I go to the odd club game but don't follow or care to follow my own club really as the club treasurer sat in our house one night over drink telling us how hard he tried to fix the club lotto because some young girl who wasn't from one of the traditional gaa families in the town won it

Ain't much fun following a division 3B team and driving 35 mile to see them unable to turn out 15 players. There are several other clubs on my doorstep but I'd still go to my old club first.

If Cross and Clann Eireann avoid each other in the knockout draw stages they'll meet in the final, nothing more certain. CE very impressive in swotting aside Madden in that final league game Friday night.

Seemed to be a noticeable change in approach from Cross in the league, setting up more defensively & looking structured, when I watched Cross v us in Abbey I thought there's a team thinking about a style of play for the Ulster club.

In terms of what do we do now... yes certainly excited for the upcoming senior championship fixtures plus i'll be watching a right few of our underage championship games.  Plenty of good football ahead.  Lets hope the weather improves.

Senior draw tonight and I wouldn't mind a local aspect to our group for a bit of a buzz.

In my County the League is over and most Clubs have 3 Championship games played with 2 to play and at least one knock out after that. While it looks very good on paper ordinary club players  get 10/12 League games [4 without their county players] and between 6/8 Championship games. They play 2 League games a week one Wednesday one at the week end.

Club snobs are nearly as bad as hurling snobs! Plenty of legitimate reasons why someone doesn't follow a club.
By its nature club championships are less intense in terms of games and media attention than the intercounty  game.
From April to July the inter county championship is always on. It is difficult to adjust to a lower level of noise when the club is in Divison 1B.
Having said that it is hard to beat a competitive club match played at full tilt as autumn goes into production. The buzz of expectation and the cold and the reaction of the crowd to the skill on display and home in the dark.

Imagine actually getting offended by people from County Armagh going to Armagh matches. If their passport says Armagh they have as much right as you to go watch the team. The funny about it is if the stands were empty at Armagh matches people like you would be complaining too.

Most people do have a clue what is happening in the club game even if they don't go to games. A quick look at the back pages of the county newspaper or a scroll through Facebook tells you what is happening in the club season. Anyway, I didn't think Antrim had a problem with band wagoners anyway. Sure half the clubs members wouldn't even go to watch Antrim games never mind the casuals.

People are allowed to choose what matches they enjoy and which ones they go to.
If you were to take your point further, would you question the people who attend your club's senior games as to why they aren't out supporting the minors? The Go Games? Ladies football?
Bottom line is that it's none of your business.
Very much my business when they complain about people like me (paid up GAA members) getting AI QF tickets ahead of them.

Quote from: Duine Inteacht Eile on October 07, 2023, 11:31:34 PMThere is a total disconnect in this argument.
Plenty of people go to club games who aren't paid up members of any club.
Plenty of paid up members don't go to any games.

Though I agree that it makes sense that GAA members should get first dibs on tickets, your self imposed title of club snob and your unrepentant disrespect to other people who enjoy the same sport as you reflects poorly on you.
Yeah, you'll get the same in virtually every sport; where genuine fans look down on the part timers and glory hunters.

Like in other sports..... Republic of Ireland soccer fans who don't attend League of Ireland fixtures aren't genuine fans?

Really? You believe that?

As I previously asked, do you extend that to your own club? If you aren't at the U14 game, you aren't a genuine fan of the seniors?
You've heard the term "fair weather supporter"?

I've said it before - the big increase in supporting a county team with no club affiliation is another step on the road to semi pro imo. If the disconnect between club & county increases it's only going one way. That probably wouldn't bother county only supporters.

Another thought in my head, presumably a lot of people who don't bother with clubs but go to County games are parents, what do they do with their children? Do they not get them involved in the GAA at a young age?

You don't pick your club or county based on their name. It is where you are born and grow up or wheee you raise your kids.

Not sure if this is a serious question. Do you not think the vast majority of 'gaa fans' are club players / club volunteers / club members etc?

I know plenty. Clubs can be very parochial by nature, and nepotism is rife. It puts alot of people off.

Presumably some are parents, are their kids not involved in the GAA at underage?

I assumed it was not a serious question with the talk of pay walls. The vast majority of club games are watched live where the only paywall is a biscuit tin on an old steel drum.

Not necessarily, I'd be talking ones with grown up children or no children at all.
